Two years behind you. Bought one, start conversion training Tuesday. I did 1 flight in a 2 seat trike, not doing the conversion course would be as lovely and safe as Russian Roulette 😁Love the Van setup, great thinking 🙂👍
I love seeing someone get a grip of their life and doing something which most people would find outrageous or too frightening to contemplate. Good on yer, gal!
What a lovely video! Hello from the Petrified Forest in Northeast Arizona, USA. I've been flying these wonderful machines since 2004. Here's a penny's worth of free advice. Make every flight a training flight for a portion of it. Just a few minutes really. I love to practice spot landings. I roll back the power to minimum and find the best place to land. Taking into account wind speed etc. and see if I could stick the landing. Sometimes I land, most times I dont. It is so much fun. Hone your skills and become one with your trike!
Hey, thanks for the lovely comments. Flying these machines are an absolute joy! I feel blessed to have been able to experience this. Yes and I do treat every flight as a learning curve - especially when my engine blew a hole in the piston after take off a couple of months ago! I had levelled off and turned left then WHOOSH and no power…. I checked first what height I had - 600ft, checked all clear and glided a short circuit, lost the final height using a sharp left turn onto final and made a beautiful landing. My engine was stripped completely and rebuilt by a great friend and I was flying again only ten days later. You don’t better training than that lol. I won’t go into details but a combination of things caused the engine to overheat - always learning, superb friends, a happy landing. x.
Brilliant Julie, so inspiring. At the grand young age of 63 Im learning to fly Flexwings at Sywell, and would love to try a peabee- thanks for posting your vid!!. More please!!
Hi John, I am pilot for all three: paragliding, Paramotoring and Sub70kg Flexwing Trike. I did my conversion training to flexwing weight shift control at Sywell where Ben Ashman builds his design PeaBee. Mention my name when you are there and see what they say lol. Flylight and Wanafly (Dave Lord) are wonderful fun people. You will learn very well there. Talk to Ben about his PeaBee and see one in action. Good luck and ENJOY
Julie, it is great to see you enjoying yourself so much. Trikes are great, and they just don't experience wing collapse, which was the great selling point for me. Nice video.
Julie Drake, you are one hell of an amazing woman, your family must or certainly should be so proud of you for doing this, the BBC should make a documentary about you.
Gosh that would be fun wouldn’t it !! Who knows, maybe one day. I am only doing what’s makes me happy. I am actually fighting cancer right now (and apparently winning) so I am taking a bit of time out but can’t wait to get back into my PeaBee again - very soon.
@@juliedrake8505Oh my goodness, I am so sorry to hear about your cancer fight Julie, it is a very, very scary thing to have and affects all of us in one way or another at some point in our lives but the fantastic thing is that you are winning and I really wish you well and who knows one day I might get to meet you at a fly-in somewhere and you can introduce me to your PeaBee LOL, please take care all the very best to you lovely lady. xx
Beautiful Julie. I'm currently travelling the UK by narrow boat I also like independence. I've only just learnt about sub 70 and I think this would be an ideal aircraft to get me aloft! I'm soon to be on the Lancashire Canal and will stay on it until April next year. I'm now putting feelers out for introduction and training. I like what I see in your video, I hope you're still flying and living the life in the motor home. 🤠
After the aircraft is rigged, you get in, taxi to the takeoff point, level the wings and the bar, press the throttle and your heavier-than-air aircraft runs down the runway ... not for long. Soon Bernoulli's law takes over and, hey presto, you are airborne! That moment of lift off, be it in your own PeaBee or a lumbering Airbus filled with 300+ passengers, never fails to impress me. Every time I think it's a miracle. We are no longer restricted to Mother Earth.
Newton’s laws, not Bernoulli’s. Just an FYI. There’s been a lot of studies and the old “Bernoulli” thought process is incorrect. It’s been shown that the air speed is vastly different on the surfaces and that air doesn’t move as parcels that reattach at the trailing edge.
Julie - I loved your video. The Orville brothers, and their sister Katherine, would have been very impressed with your independence, organization and passion for flying ... those qualities took them to great heights and achieved something most others only dream about. Bravo to you - inspiration to us all. Liam
@@Rick_Cavallaro Julie - good to hear from you, hope you are well. I meant to say the Wright brothers (Orville and Wilbur) but got my names mixed up. Oops, sorry about that. Nevertheless, their sister, Katherine, does not get the credit she deserved in their flying accomplishments. I love the pioneering age of aviation, when boundaries of possibilities were being stretched. In that sense, all pilots today benefit from those who came before us. There is something special about an aircraft running down the runway and lifting up into the air under control - life is indeed short, but those moments are priceless.
This is awesome! My mother looks about the same frame as you and this is motivating because I'm a large male and if you can set all this up, this must be affordable for travel! combatwombat71 great to hear your comments. Sub 70kg flexwing trike is easy, no licence required, no registration required, insurance is required. I'm with BHPA insurance.
Nice video showing the whole deal...transport, set-up, and flying. I noted somebody in one of the comments talking about cost. Yes anything that's high quality is expensive...that's just the way it is. However, these "Nano Trikes" are almost the same cost as a paramotor engine cage/ harness, and wing. Now, if you add a trike to the paramotor you're talking almost the same money. Thanks.
You're right about the cost comparison. Flying a Sub 70kg flexwing trike is so much fun and I believe in many ways safer. It also will enable many people to fly who may have issues with ankles/knees/hips/back etc. A truly wonderful craft. It's incredible to take to the air this way - NO LICENCE REQUIRED

Ah thanks Patrick. Well, I had a shock cancer diagnosis in June 2020 but after major op, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, I had the ALL CLEAR by December 2020. I did manage to fly some during all that treatment and as soon as lockdown is lifted I will be flying so much this year and many years to come for sure x
@@juliedrake8505 Scary stuff. It pleases me to hear the good news outcome. The lockdown is understandable for many scenarios but not for getting out to the local airfield where everyone is no less than 20ft apart, if you see anyone at all sometimes, and you go up in the air on a lone flight!?! We are fortunate that even a heavy lockdown here in Toronto Canada area would not affect us getting up -- just the weather. I will not return back to training until spring, counting the days😁 Cheers
Hi John, any wind activity like gusts give a knock but the trick is to keep a loose grip on the bar and just let it do it's thing. It's often a bit like stirring a huge pudding mix and only correcting the big knocks as and when. Thermals affect a flexwing the same as anything else but of course a flexwing has more vertical ascent/descent (angle of attack) control with the bar and with faster cruise speed of 40mph we can escape quicker. Hope that helps. Julie
Well, Julie, if this video doesn't inspire me to get back to flying and get a PeaBee I don't know what will, superb, the only thing I would say is that you said the Isle of Wight was your ambition to fly around, well Julie why stop at that why not fly around the whole UK!
That could be a life goal of mine, but I am fighting cancer right now (and winning) so i need some time off lol. The PeaBee is such a fun little machine. No pilot licence required, no registration required, just insurance IS required. It really is a very simple way into the sky and absolutely perfect for little people like me, but I think a great option for anyone with bad ankles, knees, hips, back etc. A wonderful alternative from hang gliding, paragliding, Paramotoring, or even fixed wing PPL. I hope you have fun and fly lots.
Hi I wach your video is fantastic well done I am flying paramotor but I am really fed up to carry on my back sometimes make me scary collapse the wing I am from London where I can get training school.🎉?
Flylight Airsports at Sywell aerodrome 01604 494459. Ask for conversion training to gain flexwing weightshift skills. Ask for Dave Lord he's the chief flying instructor. Tell them you paramotor and are interested in sub 70kg Flexwing Trike. Good luck and happy flying. Julie
Grrreat vid Julie, and don’t you taxi fast! OK that was in Benny Hill time, but you certainly take off fast. As you know I generally remove the wing and hangar mine so this will genuinely help remind me of procedures when I need to do a full rig/derig. Yes I luv my PB too.
Hi Julie, great video and loved the ‘walk through’ of the rigging. Really understand wanting to be independent and do it all yourself. I have my new PeeBee and am wanting to do the same. I am not tall so moving the wing on my own is a problem so seeing your little ‘wheeled trolley’ was fab. Are you able to tell me what it’s called as I wish to obtain one myself. Would make things much simpler. Also liked the idea of a side mounting of the wing on a trailer. Much better than a roof rack. Thanks for sharing. Cheers NeilG
Hello, thanks for the lovely comments. The wheeled trolley is called a KAYAK TROLLEY and you can find them online. Reasonably cheap and worth the cost because it means you don’t have to carry the wing. Congrats on your new PeaBee, awesome little machines, I love mine!
Great video! How many transition hours did you need? I have a lot of time in normal ultralights with 3 axis controls, and just wondered about how many hours before you can become somewhat proficient in the weight shift
@@juliedrake8505 I can tell! :-D What a great set up you have. The vehicle, trailer, the TRIKE, all beautiful. Still hoping to fly a trike some day. Having trouble finding an instructor, but I will find one! :-D
@@planecrazyish hi, where are you in the world? In UK you do not need a pilots licence but flexwing weightshift training is seriously advisable and to benefit from BHPA 3rd party public liability insurance you have to provide evidence of such training. I was already pilot for hang gliding and paramotoring so I had ‘conversion training’ to gain the skills of flying flexwing weightshift. I had a CAA approved instructor and learned on a two seater flexwing microlight Quick or GT450. Before I did my solo in my PeaBee I got my instructor to actually fly a PeaBee himself and tell me the differences I would expect to find when flying my PeaBee solo for the first time. A sub 70kg flexwing trike (whatever make) will be lower to the ground, much lighter, more responsive, different pre-flight checks as it has no ‘trim’, simply a motor kill switch, is slower in the air, etc. They really are so much fun to fly. You still need to obey air law, the 500ft rule, no fly zones etc. Whatever you choose to do, enjoy!
@@juliedrake8505 Thank you so much for the reply Julie :). I'm in Auckland , New Zealand. There really isn't very much in the way of trikes, in the North Island of NZ. Learning to fly in the South Island, is a lot easier, there are more trikes and instructors down there. I know the Quick , beautiful trike! Reminds me of a Harrier Jump Jet :-D. There is a guy here, that owns one, but he's not an instructor. I asked! He is Neil Scoble, here on You Tube. Has a beautiful Quick and some stunning footage. Another great guy here, is Robert Bargent, also on You Tube. He has a 2 seater too and lives down in the South Island. He has actually offered me the chance to fly with him, if I ever get down there, which I would absolutely, love to do, when I can. I actually have, a 98% already built, 2 seater trike, brand new, 4 Stroke HKS 700E (60HP) motor, never flown. All I need is an instructor :-D I wouldn't dare fly a trike without instruction, that is for sure. If there is one activity, where safety is paramount, it has to be flying, in any form. The North Island is beautiful from the air, we should have a lot more interest in trikes up here. Looking forward to more videos, of you, flying your trike!
Hey Julie , you R amazing flying , can u guide me @ wing , this video mentioned that this is 70 Kg flying , so this wt. With rider or without rider of the trike .
Fantastic video! I have just bought a Foxcub and am deciding what instruments to fit. It looks like you have a compass and ASI, but do you have any others? Any suggestions?
Julie, I fly paramotor trikes. And have used the Black Devil motor. Is that what you’re using? How is the motor holding up? Issues, maintenance? Anything you can speak of. My BD motor had starting issues along with belt wear and exhaust wear. If I get a Pea Bee, I want a motor with ease of use.
Hi, I have a Moster 185+ on my trike. When you order a PeaBee there is a choice of motors. The Moster 185+ is a very popular motor for Paramotoring too. Really powerful and reliable motor. Runs perfectly and I’ve had absolutely no problems. www.flylight.co.uk/ Check out the options at Flylight.
Scott, I still have your Northwing ATF trike.... never flown it yet though... need some spin recovery type of training with Mike Theeke in Jasper, TN... but busy life and 4 kids has me pretty busy.... but I will get around to the maiden voyage sometime in the near future... stay healthy buddy

Alfonso Taddeo thanks for the comment. I flew paramotor again in Salton Sea USA in October 2019. Amazing fun. I am a huge fan of the sub 70kg flexwing trike 😎😎👌
No medical, no licence required, no registration required, insurance IS required. There is no exam syllabus but unless you already have microlight quals you should do conversion course to get handling skills
Actually I am not telling lol. Far too many and it was expensive. It was because I had lots of gaps for long Motorhome holidays to Europe, then bad weather plus I was rubbish at learning to land - got it down to a fine art now though lol. Paragliding and Paramotoring meant spot-landing and trust me you shouldn’t try to spot land a microlight - my instructor actually slapped me on the shoulder for keep trying to spot-land the GT340 / Quick lol.

Lindo trike! nunca voei mas deve ser uma otima sensacao bons vous....
Top!!!! Brazil!
Great video, thank you so much!!
Just wondering, what are dimensions of your trailer which can accommodate the Peabee?
you were rocking , plz make a video on trike's joint (wing & foundation joint )
Hi I wach your video is fantastic well done I am flying paramotor but I am really fed up to carry on my back sometimes make me scary collapse the wing I am from London where I can get training school.🎉?
Flylight Airsports at Sywell aerodrome 01604 494459. Ask for conversion training to gain flexwing weightshift skills. Ask for Dave Lord he's the chief flying instructor. Tell them you paramotor and are interested in sub 70kg Flexwing Trike. Good luck and happy flying. Julie
God bless you. Wow
Thanks
Awesome vid!! :)
Thanks Paul, it was fun making it
Great video thank you for posting.
Really inspiring 😁
You are welcome. I have to say the PeaBee is so much fun to fly, its my go-cart in the sky.
We must fly together again soon Jx
Браво!

Out of curiosity is there a cage option for the prop. to stop debris and possible bird strikes ?
how can I buy it ,I am Cambodian people.I very very like to fly.
Hi Julie, could you please share what's name of the bike
Awesome how many nutical miles on a tank
@@ngrayson262 message me on Facebook anytime. Where are you based? J
Parabéns pelo aparelho é lindo. Quanto custa um desses?

Namaste Madam I love your Glider flying I would like to get training for flying from you . Would you provide me permission? pls.from India
You do so quickly. I can't understand how to assamble this
Hola Julie, podría ASER un vídeo de como construir uno igual muchas gracias
Parabéns 👏👏
You’re awesome !
Great video! How many transition hours did you need? I have a lot of time in normal ultralights with 3 axis controls, and just wondered about how many hours before you can become somewhat proficient in the weight shift
Hi there, about 15 should get you well on the way to managing flex wing weight shift, of course everyone is different.
Just beautiful 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍
Thank you, Flying is my joy
How much cost
If you don’t mind my asking, how much did you pay for it( approx.)?
very good night I am Cuban and I live in Mexico I want to buy some hang gliders to make a trik
How much are these
Hi what was the price of the trike?
👏 wow
Very good! What make is the trailer please? Where did you get it?
Hi, I ordered it specially for my PeaBee, it is made by Tickner Trailers, I ordered it with ramp door. Box trailer 6ft high, 5ft wide, 8ft long
You are wonderfull ,
What is price of device
where did you buy the wing from ?
Hey Julie , you R amazing flying , can u guide me @ wing , this video mentioned that this is 70 Kg flying , so this wt. With rider or without rider of the trike .
Hi the wing is Fox 13T. Google it and you can get all the information about it.
How priz
❤
Fantastic video! I have just bought a Foxcub and am deciding what instruments to fit. It looks like you have a compass and ASI, but do you have any others? Any suggestions?
I have Motomonitor and use SkyDemon on phone
How much is one. Do you sell the whole one or sapatared part
Hi. Where did you get the little trolley to kove your wing around? Cheers
It's called a kayak trolley
@@juliedrake8505 thanks
Is the throttle in your hand on this as well or somewhere else?
It's a foot throttle like a car. It's just so intuitive and leaves both hands free. Julie
WoW👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
At 6:05 when she is taking off I just HATE to see all the POWER LINES in the back ground:(
Scott, yes I notice those when I watch it back too, but they really are further away than they seem. Not to worry.
@@kennethjohnson6223 Hi Ken, Hope you get in the air some day soon with a perfect flight.
I wish I had the name and number of the guy I sold the winch I built.
I would like to buy back the winch I built that had an 18 hp Brigs and Stratton gas engine with a line pressure gauge
that worked off the drive sprocket. If any one knows of this winch please let me know.
We are match 🤗
Hello Julie great video, I used to fly a microlight about 15years ago but now I have just took up paramotoring which I love, however the sub 70kgs looks great fun. Could you tell me is there a medical and exam syllabus required?
Alfonso Taddeo thanks for the comment. I flew paramotor again in Salton Sea USA in October 2019. Amazing fun. I am a huge fan of the sub 70kg flexwing trike 😎😎👌
No medical, no licence required, no registration required, insurance IS required. There is no exam syllabus but unless you already have microlight quals you should do conversion course to get handling skills
@@juliedrake8505 В России - No medical, no licence required, no registration required, insurance IS required - для аппаратов массой до 115кг.
How many hours did it take you to fly solo in one of these? Thanks :)
Love you 💕
How much was the whole ultralight all together and were did u get it thanks
Full spec and options price list available from Ben Ashman of Flylight Airsports at Sywell aerodrome
Julie, What would you say it takes you time wise once at the LZ to put the wing together, yourself?
Hi Ron, probably around 25 mins without rushing. I check everything at least 3 times.
