    @Parker Walbeck - great video. I would love to know your experience with editing R3d raw 6k and 8k on the new Mac Mini M2 vs the Studio. I've seen other videos citing that Resolve is specifically better optimized with R3D it seems. So I'm on the fence here and the rumor mill is already going that the Studio might be phased out. A fully maxed M2 Mini is considerably cheaper so that is already a plus.

    Well for only $300 more you get a M1 Max (24GPU, 32GB RAM, 1TB) Mac Studio with better ports, cooling and much greater performance in video tasks (double the encoders and 50% more GPU cores). Don't know why this is not mentioned as an option? Once you start upgrading the Mac Mini, it quickly looses it's value... Just how Apple works in general (same story with MacBook Air).

      @@philippscheithauer is the M1 Max Studio better than a M2 Mac Mini Pro? specs says so plus that power boost with the Studio I think helps. Bank for Buck, I think your right about the Studio for $300 more. However, my personal issue is do I want a M1 MAX Studio or a MBP? being able to utilize real time color grades, luts, etc during test shoots or on location with a quality screen vs having to wait to get home is the only thing holding me back from this purchase. basically is portability worth the extra $$$ 🤔

IMO the Mac Mini Pro is a great option for editors on a budget. If you can afford the MacBook M1 Pro that is a SOLID option due to its portability...I love being able to bring mine out on a shoot to capture footage to a portable HD right away. I think a really good comparison to see here would be between the Mac Mini M2 Pro and the Mac Studio M1 Max (and not Ultra). Spec'ed similarly, they are at the *exact* same price point, so you get a good shoot-out between the M1 Max and M2 Pro. My sense is (drawing from specs elsewhere) that the M1 Max will still match if not outperform the M2 Pro, and if buying now, I would go for the additional Studio ports, even if buying into the "older" silicon. There are significant design differences between the Pro and Max versions of the silicon, whereby the Max really shines for video processing, and what Apple has done is make the Max only available on the Studio build. Personally I am awaiting the Mac Studio *M2 Max*, as I think that will nail the best cost-to-performance ratio, worth paying a bit more for. Right now, the Mac Studio M1 Max is best-bang-for-buck.

    I like that you had the chart with Premiere, Resolve and Final Cut because this tech can't be assessed properly unless the level of software optimization is at an equal par. The same can be said when you and others make the speed comparisons between machines where you tell people that system A is twice the price of system B, but not twice the speed. In those kind of comparisons we don't know at what percentage that the optimization of the software has reached in each system. So if system A is pushing at utilizing near 100% and system B is just idling, the future optimization of the software might actually make the more expensive option the better buy.

    Just curious what your thoughts are in the chat. I've always viewed the Mac mini as the best bang-for-buck computer, but if the budget is $1900 there are a lot of windows laptops that perform extremely well at this price point. Not to mention the added bonus of mobility and having a screen. I edit on Mac and Windows so no bias here. Just saying it's worth a thought. One of my machines I'm using currently is a Zephyrus with a 3080, 32gb and 1tb that was purchased for $1400. We also edit on the new MacBook pro (which I know is much more expensive than the Mac mini). I think there is great value in the $1000-2000 range if you aren't afraid to use Windows

    • @ghost-user559
      @ghost-user559 Рік тому +1

      I think for mobile MacBooks win, for desktop at that price point I do see the merits of considering a PC at that price point. I have never seen any windows laptop currently that competed with a MacBook *unplugged* , and that’s simply the physics of the ARM soc. Windows competitors in the laptop space just don’t perform as well in all circumstances, they seem to get worse battery life, have worse speakers, and software is hit or miss. But for desktop at that price range I think a PC is probably a very compelling option because battery and screen and speakers are irrelevant, and you have way more options for graphics and upgrades and gaming, including Linux for the OS.

    • @victorjacob1
      @victorjacob1 Рік тому

      @@ghost-user559 I hear ya, but have to say a lot of that is totally subjective. However there is no need to argue that. The point here is value for dollar. that's a simple timeline. you should test on timeline of this video or previous video - the real world test with audio, sound, overlay,.... Not just some simple 4,5clips put together.

    How do the new Mac M2-s stack up wit PC-s?
    Is the Mac really best bang for buck or can you get a decent PC for that money?

      You have to factor in the Operating System and downtime due to security upgrades. Make a Pro-Contra List with all the points that are important to you.

      @@paulhorn24 we've used win and mac and prefer win any time for multitasking. Macs are bad with Windows 😉
      Downtime is not an issue. Rather the bang for buck hardware capability wise.

      M1 iMacs suck with C70 footage. Especially with warp stabilizer.

    I sold my 2018 I-9 32 GB ram, and bought the M2Pro Mini w 32 GB ram. My mini beats the crap out of the i-9, especially the graphics! I rendered a new 60GB 4K video from Final Cut Pro with all the bells and whistles in just 90 seconds!!!! It even makes my R13 look lame!

    Love it when you young people talk about the high price of Apple products. Steve Jobs unveiled the first Mac I ever owned the 1984 Apple Macintosh computer with a $2,500.00 US price tag. Today adjusted for inflation cost of that original 1984 Apple McIntosh would be $7,281.58 US.
    I feel the Apple Mac mini both M2, and M2 Pro are in the consumer part of the grid with no black Apple logo stickers. The Apple Mac mini M2 Pro does fill the hole in the Apple product line between the Apple Mac mini M2, and the Apple Mac Studio M1 Max.
    If you need to purchase a host system with all the ports, and you are using it in a professional production environment. If you need it to just work with everything you throw at it. Which system do you think you should purchase?

    IMPORTANT!! DaVinci resolve users!!! I bought the Mac Studio M2 Ultra with 24 core CPU, 60 core GPU 64GB memory and 1 TB internal drive. Adding noise reduction and sharpening to a clip in DaVinci, it plays back a little jerky in the Edit window but doesn't slow down but in the color window the audio is garbled and it's slowing down and jerky. Will be returning this Mac Studio. I ordered the 76 core Mac Studio with 128GB of memory with 2TB internal drive. Hope that will work.
