      @@ravinchandra I don't think the next M1 successor chip would be as aggressively priced as this one. This costs less only because it's their very first product and a lot of companies and developers need to optimize their software for this processor.

    Parker, I wish you’d tested with Final Cut Pro as well. Using Premiere in emulation doesn’t tell us much. Bad software running in emulation will of course be less than stellar. Everything you claim to be laggy on the M1 using Premiere would be vastly improved, or maybe completely fixed, if you were using FCP. My M1 MacBook Pro absolutely crushes 4k and 8k video from my Canon R5 in FCP, blowing the doors off my fully loaded 16” MBP with Intel inside.

    Be careful with your comparative percentages. If MP does a task in 50s and MM does it in 125s, then MP is 2.5X faster than MM. But that's not the same as 250% faster. It is 150% faster. If something is 100% faster, then it is double the speed. So 150% faster is double the speed, plus another 50% of the base (slower) speed.

    • @haidara77
      @haidara77 2 роки тому +1

      An increase of 100% in a quantity means that the final amount is 200% of the initial amount (100% of initial + 100% of increase = 200% of initial). In other words, the quantity has doubled. so you are right

      You need to also be sure that the % is based on the original variable, and there’s a technicality in your comment as well. If MP is 50s and MM is 125s, then you can say it took MM 2.5x longer, therefore it’s 1.5x slower compared to MP. If talking about one of them being faster, you’d say the MP finished in 40% of the time, therefore it’s 60% faster compared to MM.

    I TOTALLY Agree with your suggestion to get the upgraded RAM. I edit everything on the new M1 Macbook Air. Granted, I am only working with Canon M50 footage, and some iphone 12 pro footage as well. It's PERFECT for newer creators on a lower budget who want a laptop that's portable but can still do some creative work. But I didn't upgrade my RAM and I very much regret it. If I'm exporting a project for UA-cam, I can't work in photoshop without seriously lagging or increasing render time. But the render is still very fast for the price. But all that to say: upgrade your RAM from the 8GB

    When comparing the Mini to the iMac, its not just the monitor that needs to be accounted for in the $700 price difference. Include keyboard, mouse, camera, speakers, and microphone. Yes, you could source these for less than $700.

    • @80-80.
      @80-80. 3 роки тому +5

      If you are into video editing you need proper stutio monitors anyway, the built-in speakers in the iMac is usless for any creaive work. Use the microphone on your headset for video calls, or your shootgun mic. Everyone has a mouse. On top of that you still need a dock, card reader and stuff for your iMac. The iMac only makes sense for content consumers, not for content creators.

    • @mrwhopee
      @mrwhopee 3 роки тому +3

      LOL no professional’s going to use the built in speakers on the iMac for mixing, nor will they care about the built in camera and microphone. and you can get a far nicer, larger, more colour accurate panel to work on which you can upgrade in the future, the whereas iMac you’re stuck with whatever Apple gives you and have to buy a whole new system. The mini has 10gig Ethernet option as well. Yeah you can use an external monitor with iMac but it won’t be a very clean looking setup (even a 2nd 24inch panel won’t match) and not everyone has room for 2 panels.

    • @willoliver9960

    You mention using proxies on the M1 for editing. I do that for all my projects on my Late 2015 iMac 27". Granted my videos are pretty simple and don't require a lot of editing. The way you're referring to proxies it makes it seem like that's a problem? I don't see a dramatic difference in the quality of the footage I'm shooting when using a proxy for editing. To me, the only thing holding me back when it comes to creating my videos is how long it takes to export. Luckily my videos aren't too long, and when I am exporting I'm going to be done doing anything serious with my iMac so it doesn't matter if it takes a long time. Is using proxies really that bad?

      I am assuming the issue is mostly that of time. To end up with over an hour of final project it means you have far more of raw footage. It will slow you down. Of course if you waste say a day rendering everything, is that a huge deal for a large project? I don't know, I guess it depends.

    You should do a follow up video now that Adobe has come out with a beta of Premiere Pro that is M1 comparable to see the performance difference.

    depend on what videos and what you need it. If you need to edit and make color corrections on video raw or QuickTime Pro res 4 k 10 bits with Davinci Resolve, the MacPro 7.1 is better than a Mac mini. But if you need to cut and paste some videos with a minimal color correction, so the Mac mini will work for you-

    I edit on my mac mini with i7. I work not only on my UA-cam channel but all other professional projects. The important thing is that the old mac mini (not M1) has an option of using an external GPU and with that, my little mac is a real monster :) I work with 4K and big projects with no problem.

    Making proxies isn’t wasting time. It’s proper workflow. H.264 is for delivery not editing. That’s why you have an issue on both machines. You should have done some real tests like transcoding footage, round tripping files from Pr to AE, and performed some editing in a mezzanine codec.

    I would probably stick with the mac mini and just buy and external monitor with recording abiblity, ie Blackmagic Assist 12g..Then you could shoot Prores 422 10 bit which the mac mini should be able to handle very well :)

    Editing with proxy is the best way, every industry follows this process for offline editing. Proxy editing in NLE softwares ---> link it to original in resolve and take it for online.

    How do you utilize two computers with a server so one can render and the other is free to continue working on? In my estimation, a single top end computer is not even close to as efficient as having a dual computer workstation. Thoughts?

    I use the M1 mac mini with 8gb of ram and it runs great in DaVinci Resolve. Premiere pro works fine unless you use h.265 HEVC files. It just won't play them, while resolve plays everything smoothly. It's obviously optimisation issues and I hope it will be better with new updates, as a lot of people use Adobe software.

However, all uses during editing (playback, effects, fusion, Color grading) the msi creative is about twice to five Times faster than M1. Most interesting is that AI Performance is about 20 Times higher on PC.
