What are your thoughts on a referral program so say a customer brings in one person that now is a client you get a certain discount that way. I want one where they can offer up to 3 in a six month period for a percentage off their next visit. If you do think that's a good idea what percentages would you suggest cause they one I had planned was 10% for the first 20% for the second and 30% for the third. Would 10, 15 and 20 be better? Edit: The only workers in the company are me and my wife and we just want people to be intrigued but not take advantage of us as far as that goes.

Very good advise, especially for those first starting out. I remember when I first started out, it was very slow, but now my after years of working, my schedule is packed solid. When you realize that having a cleaning a business is about building trust with your customers because so many time people have been burned by other people. It's important to let your customers know that your business will do what it says it's going to do.

Hi Angela, boy did I learn about rule number two the hard way LOL. I used to offer the first house cleaning at a very good discount on the premise the client was going to hire me for every two weeks/ once a week. I was hired to clean two-story home buy two teachers no less. It took me over 5 hours and a LOT of hard work on my hands and knees wiping down baseboards throughout the whole house and all that goes with it on a house that hadn't been done in a while. After she paid me she said they had changed their mind and really weren't looking for someone full time. The job was great, the house looked amazing she said. They were having company from out of town I was told. They had only lived there for about 3 or 4 she didn't told me. This was the first time the whole family was coming to see the new house. Boy was I scammed. That was years and years ago . I love watching your videos. You are always right on!

Oh no Carol Aaron, this is such a sad story. I hate to see house cleaners promised one thing and then it turns out to be something else. It sounds like you learned a valuable lesson. Thanks for sharing. And, thanks for your kind words. :-)

Thanks again for the wise words and the encouragement at the end. When I was first starting, I followed your advice to the letter, and It gave me the confidence in myself that I could do this. The junk food rule is straight truth! That garbage would wreck my whole day.

The point about food intake is really true. Last week I was sloppy with my diet. I ate too much junk food on my days off and about half way through my usual 7-8 hour day with a 4k sq ft home with 5 giant dogs and a cat and rats etc... I really bonked
I started getting a headache and I had just run out of energy. Pushing through the rest of the day was brutal. Never again.

I clean houses for over 20 years and the biggest problem for me is raising price of the service. I have clients who never raised not even $5.00 for me after 10 years cleaning their houses. What do I do?

You have to redo your contract/agreement to make your ends meet. In 10 years a lot has changed. Cost of living, price increases of supplies etc.
Here are some videos about price increase. Also check out the link in the show notes.

On the other side, what can I, what should I, expect from a cleaner? I got royally burned by a “friend” who had a cleaning business, so I let her do our house. There were certain things I wanted done, but when I tried to tell her she always had an excuse. She always said that wasn’t the way she did a certain task. It took her all day to clean just part of my house - we had her clean 1 bedroom, I full bath, 1 half bath, the kitchen and breakfast nook, family room, large entry hall, dining room, and music room. If anyone stopped by, she entered in on the conversation and her work stopped. I finally had to let her go when I looked at the baseboards in the water closet of the master bath and realized they had not been touched in months! (I might add I was getting over a large surgery so had not been inspecting her work closely.)
I realize this may not be your focus, but I would really like to know what should be the home owner’s expectations from a cleaning company.
Thank you! Love your channel! So much of your advice can be applied to so many other areas of life!

Angela, I would like to ask you a question about your career. I understand that you work hard to educate and train professionals. Do you still go out on the field and clean customers homes?
And would it be possible to make a video about how you train your staff, who may or may not have professional experience? Not company secrets, lol, just what you look for and what you expect before sending a rookie out on their own.
