    I used lime it did the job, but first I aerated the area, sewed sun and shade seeds. Followed with starter fertilizer then used milo, and humic acid and watered 3 times a day. It turned out great. Dark green grass, lush and thick. Later added tenacity with surfactant and dye.

      We’re glad you had success! Keep in mind that in some areas watering that much will just make the moss come back with a vengeance, so of course different lawns can require some different steps. Thanks for watching!

    I also enjoy the series. I've been battling moss in my lawn since we moved in a few years ago. I found that killing the moss first and then dethatching the lawn works pretty well. You can either spray or spread granular moss killer- which i think is basically just iron, which is why it will stain your masonry a rust color. The moss killer is not too strenuous on the lawn unless you grossly over apply, it just turns your grass a nice dark green. At any rate, nice video and excellent series.

      Thanks for watching and commenting! We are glad you found the series and are enjoying them. You are correct about the moss killer. Most moss killers on the market are made of iron. Good luck with your moss problems and if we can help in any way, feel free to give us a call! 866-581-7378

      I have a thin layer of moss starting on bare ground next to the house where I cleared all grass and vegetation a few months ago to lay landscape fabric and river rock there. Do I need to kill that moss or will it die underneath the fabric and rock?

      @@ATLTRANSPORTER2 You will want to treat the moss first. For moss in lawns we would recommend using the Lily Miller Moss Out in granules or liquid.

    Don't forget to core aerate, treat the soil with liquid seaweed, and consider overseeing afterwards. Then the new grass will crowd out the moss.

      @domyown  4 роки тому

      These steps can help in certain situations. We definitely recommend making sure the moss is clear and the soil is prepped before applying new seed.

    I have an erosion ditch that is forming due to my neighbors grading issue. Every time it rains his gravel ends up in my driveway. I’d like to hump that area a bit and transfer some of my moss to that area for suck up the water. Do you have any suggestions of how I can pull up the moss in somewhat large pieces for transfer?
    I enjoyed your video and subscribed. However, I’d like to recommend that you edit out the background music when you speak. It’s a bit loud and distracting.

    • @domyown

      This is just a bit outside of our scope. You may want to contact your local extension office and ask for the master gardener to request tips on how to relocate moss and help it thrive.

  • @Bicyclechris

    I have moss in my front yard and side yard. There is no shade or standing water like in your yard so what is up with that?

    • @domyown
      @domyown  7 років тому +2

      Thank you for your question. If shade or too much moisture is not an issue for you, perhaps compacted soil is causing favorable conditions for moss to grow. Compacted soils stop nutrients, water and air from reaching the roots of grass but does not stop the growth of the moss. Aerating the soil in the impacted area should help reduce or stop the growth of the moss. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

    Great video! I have some Moss in my lawn that I'm looking to get rid of. The lawn in that area actually still looks very good.....but there is still quite a bit of moss. Would using the power rake to get rid of the moss pretty much destroy the existing lawn?

    • @domyown
      @domyown  7 років тому

      +Chris Connors thanks for watching and the comment! Using a power rake will "scar" up the lawn. It will make it seem as though you killed it but have no fear. If you have grads pretty well established, and you help feed and boost it with fertilizers and water, it should with stand the beating! Hope that helps and hope we can be your source for lawn care needs and products! Best of luck with your lawn.

    I like this episode. How quickly can you plant grass seed after removing the moss?

    • @domyown
      @domyown  4 роки тому

      The tricky thing about planting grass where moss has grown is that the soil usually is usually acidic, compacted, damp, and shady. So you want to be sure all of those contributing factors are addressed before you try to plant grass or another plant in an area where moss has been growing. This may take anywhere from a few days to several weeks, depending on your situation.

  • @ytgodzilla
    @ytgodzilla 5 років тому +1

    Moss roots are dependent on bacteria. A mix of mouthwash and water should be enough. A guy named jerry ??? Taught me that. May take a while. Spray bottle should do it. Natural and not too harsh.

    Does applying Dawn dish soap work in your opinion? Seen a few videos applying that.

    • @domyown
      @domyown  4 роки тому

      We have heard some folks use dish soap as a surfactant. We cannot recommend it, because there is not enough research behind it. We recommend a product like Non Ionic Surfactant www.domyown.com/nonionic-surfactant-for-herbicides-p-1771.html to be mixed with most herbicides that that are labeled for it.

    Shame there is no responses to these comments, so maybe someone else can answer for me, why is it not just easier to rotivate it, rake the soil flat and just start again?

    • @theCastleberry
      @theCastleberry 6 років тому +1

      Having tried a few different methods now, the best way is to hit it with some elbow grease to rake out all that you can, then hit it with some moss killer. Wait awhile for the moss killer to do what it can do, then rake it out again. I still have it in the yard, even after doing all of that. I have to figure out a better way to drain the area of water and get more sunlight and air back there. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    • @domyown
      @domyown  5 років тому

      You can use a moss removal product just about anytime temperatures are above freezing. Wet, warm conditions will favor moss growth the most, so you usually get best results after rainfall or in very warm, dry weather.
