Unbelievable that this recording was made as a song check before a LIVE performance in front of a huge audience! They recorded it just to ensure they were all ready, sound was up to par, etc! It’s so raw but beautifully haunting! I would LOVE to see one of his LIVE performances!
Being a musician (drummer), I so want to say that the percussionist playing in the live clip has a great sense of orchestration. Simply the BEST sound mixing I’ve heard on a live band ,you can hear every individual instrument which absolutely makes a difference instead of a ‘wall of sound’ …great song by a great artist accompanied by great musicians
Im not gonna sit here and let you slander the Wall of Sound and by extension the late great Owsley Stanley. Aka Bear, the mad scientist, audio technician and LSD chemist that rolled with the Grateful dead in the 60's and 70's. He may have been in jail for the creation of the Wall of Sound. But his work was certainly the inspiration, and the result was the loudest and clearest sound mix ever produced at a live event. Then a few years later advancements in audio tech made it outdated and the wall came down.
I wasn’t referring to that ,I simply meant that when a mix isn’t done properly, all you hear is a garbled mess leading to a ‘wall of sound’ from which you can’t distinguish who’s playing what etc ….sorry for any confusion caused 👍
I dedicate this song to my husband. He loves me more fully than any other man I have met. We only met in our 50s, but we thank God for meeting. He has a progressive rare genetic disease, and no matter how hard our days are, we continue to thank God for each other. 😢❤
This song reminds me of my wife. It was her favorite song before she lost battling cancer, I wish I could change the hands of time, life could be so unfair most times, but sometimes I wonder why bad things always happen to good people.
at least 10y ago Mr.Isaak played at Humboldt State College. One song he sang he was wearing a suit made of hundreds of 1"sq mirrors that was something to see. He was a comic too, goofing off with his grounp and the audience. I saw him once again and it was a honor to listen to his great voice. I wish he handn't quit.
IM 65 AND AND I HAVE HEARD THIS SONG FOR YEARS BUT NEVER COULD CATCH HIS MAME UNTIL A FEW MONTHS AGO AND IM IN THE MUSIC BUISSNES AT THE JERSEY SHORE GO FIGURE SO DONT FEEL BAD BOBBYMAC THANKS
I've long ago outgrown tearjerker love songs. Genetic material copies itself, we're life forms, I get it, big fucking deal. But this is GOOD art! These dudes are talented as fuck, making me like to listen to a type of song I normally can't stand anymore :)
I love this song… you have such a soulful voice.. I’ve never heard it on the uke before.. amazing job!! Well done.. and with a broken finger!! Hope you’ve healed by now. Love and light Starman ❤️🙏
Top 10 songs of all time! Song is so hypnotic I’m surprised he never had a massive hit. That guitar player is utterly amazing for writing those riffs with the tremolo.
Do you woke from coma yesterday? For a single made by barely known singer outside US, this pretty soom became massive hit. 10 years later, it was still one of the most frequent song on Select MTV. And it sure isn't TOP10 song, because there are no TOP10 song. More like thousands, each TOP in it's own way. They are equaly good, .... you just don't know them.
Wow, apart from being an iconic song, I was blown away by the precision of everything I heard, from the vocals, to the perfect moment each guitar string was picked and strummed, to the perfection of the percussion.Going to have to replay....
I always assumed some studio magic was involved in the original radio version of this song, specifically pertaining to the lead vocals. Seeing how effortlessly yet perfectly Chris sings it live is beyond impressive.
so did I until I learnt to play it. Never going to sound as good as these guys, but it is surprisingly do-able to do a decent sounding job. The hard part is to not rush and feel the timing of everything. And it is really fun to play. Singing it though, not so easy, haha!!
@@cloudthegoodkatch For sure not, guess you havent seen his performance on MTV Unplugged, no tuners involved son. And it's even better on unplugged, was abit younger aswell so that might be it.
The drum sound on 2:48 , followed by that perfect smile, just kills me. This video is a wonderful example of how a great band works. Amazing song in every technical and artistic sense!!
It may be one of the best songs ever...it's flawless nothing is overdone and nothing is missing. Not too short, not too long, it's a modern masterpiece.
I did that once…..played it over and over and over again……won’t say what I was doing…..but it was memorable! 😮 Best song EVER!!! Just saw him in Santa Rosa, CA a few months ago. He’s amazing…..always has been!
I think this song is more cherished by musicians. This recording and this live performance are a treat to the ears! If you’re wondering how good his dance moves are, you might be in the wrong place.
This is THE best song ever, ever, and ever... Loved it when it came out, still adoring it now. When you hear/watch covers, they always do weird stuff to their voices to sound like Mr. Isaac, but it's never the same. Cover it, don't imitate it, doesn't work, his voice is one of a kind. Did I mention I love this song?
Corey Taylor does it justice in his own way, with his own voice. Probably the only person who's done it properly. But Isaak still is the best, obviously. The twang' can't be immitated. .
Gina Miles fir sure won the Voice America with her amazing rendition of this song: It was hauntingly beautiful, and I have his original Album! My fav song too! Listen to Gina! Chris would love it too:
I worked years as a Bylaw Enforcement Officer and was called many times over the years to bands playing in backyards. I never shut one down because I always thought of the great music we missed that never made radio play when I was a kid. I'd hang out for a while and listen then ask them to turn it down just a little. I could spend all day in this backyard listening to Nick Stone and the Shifty Hunchbacks.
I heard this first at work, & cried. It is beautiful. The world is only going to break your heart in the background is True for me!!! I still love this love this!❤️☺️ Thanks for making such making such a heartbreaker song with a good message!😢😮
Agreed. But in saying so, you should check out James Vincent McMorrow’s cover and see how it makes you feel. Not many words to describe it, but it definitely does the original justice.
THE. BEST. SOLO Seriously you have to go back and listen again and again to realize how good this is. It’s a masterpiece. Compare this to other hits with a lead guitar has some kind of an impact and you’ll find this is almost flawless. It’s unreal that this is a one hit wonder
Boy, do I miss this mans music. I wish he could go back to those roots and bless us with another album. His music transcended race and genre. Was unique and inspired.
I listen to this at least weekly and wish I could "thumbs up/ like it" more than once. There's always something more I catch in the notes/lyrics each time. God bless.
What a song! It brings me back to the days of my childhood. With my inner glance I see myself as a 10-years boy living in endless bright summer day filled with joy and happiness without any particular reasons.
it has been pitch corrected, as have the backing vocals... to even more degree. Wax in ears?? Now listen again. The original is not f'ed with like this.
This song just is such a wonderful turn on . All the instruments blend together with Chris’s voice . I have it in my most listened too . Years ago we heard it for the first time . We really fell in love to this song . Last thing she said . “Was play it again , “ I did !

Hands down one of the greatest ballads of all time. I was a 12 year old metal head when this came on MTV and the video stopped me in my tracks every time it came on. I mean sure Helena Christensen was easy on the eyes but the song was beautifully haunting. Stands the test of time.
As a teenager I used to listen to it all the time. A spent all my pocket money of the month to buy the record. I still have it. This song represents for me my melancholic youth. Still love it.
Such a simple chord progression yet never gets tiring. I don't know how many times I use this song to warm up when practicing solos. The progression, pace and beauty of it brings out some of my best moments. When I look back when this came out, I think the video actually took away from how beautiful and soulful this song really is.
I have been going to rock concerts since I was a sophomore in high school (circa 1975) and really love live venues whether it be in local bar or a large stadium/event convention center. Some bands and lead singers don't do justice to their music live but Chris Isaak and band members exemplify true talent and commitment to their craft. What a pleasure to sit back and listen to such a great band. Keep up the good work and continued success!

But his work was certainly the inspiration, and the result was the loudest and clearest sound mix ever produced at a live event. Then a few years later advancements in audio tech made it outdated and the wall came down.
simple is the best .this is a period piece ..adds to the stark reality ..beautifully done
I wasn’t referring to that ,I simply meant that when a mix isn’t done properly, all you hear is a garbled mess leading to a ‘wall of sound’ from which you can’t distinguish who’s playing what etc ….sorry for any confusion caused 👍
The Way He holds That Note is Insanely Clever! What an amazing sound! This has Got to be the Best Version!Brilliant Song!
Popular music these days just can't compete with what came before
The guy didn’t change in almost 40 years… The music keeps him young
My favorite song ever. Such a masterpiece. Chris Isaak is still so talented. Amazing live performance. Thanks for sharing.
❤❤❤
May Almighty God grant your husband good health !
In sha Allah is Arabic for God Willing x
Deus te abençoe 🙏
at least 10y ago Mr.Isaak played at Humboldt State College. One song he sang he was wearing a suit made of hundreds of 1"sq mirrors that was something to see. He was a comic too, goofing off with his grounp and the audience. I saw him once again and it was a honor to listen to his great voice. I wish he handn't quit.
One of the most beautiful songs EVER. So beautiful that it makes me cry. This live performance sounds better than the recording.
And it's not that often that the live version sounds a lot better...
I’m 31 and just discovered Chris Isaak. Absolutely blown away
IM 65 AND AND I HAVE HEARD THIS SONG FOR YEARS BUT NEVER COULD CATCH HIS MAME UNTIL A FEW MONTHS AGO AND IM IN THE MUSIC BUISSNES AT THE JERSEY SHORE GO FIGURE SO DONT FEEL BAD BOBBYMAC THANKS
Where have you been?
@@williamdoyle7512 Viņš iepriekš, laikam, klausījās sūdus.
Better late than never !!!❤
Chris Isaak's Wicked Game is the original and still the best, smoothest, most sultry, and knee buckling sexy. I tremble.
Das empfinde ich auch so! 🎶 Die Cover von Black Jack, Diana Ankudinova etc. reichen nicht heran!
Who’s with me in Dec 2024?😂😂😂🧑🏻🎄🤶🏻🎅🏼🫵🫵👍👏👋🏻

If this doesn’t stir you...you’re dead. What a fantastic performance by everyone involved, especially the dude that mixed it. This is a gem.
Still living! Chris is a gem!
Stfu plx
Truly better than the original mix
The guitar work .so simple and elegant. Along with the rest. Genius
I've long ago outgrown tearjerker love songs. Genetic material copies itself, we're life forms, I get it, big fucking deal.
But this is GOOD art! These dudes are talented as fuck, making me like to listen to a type of song I normally can't stand anymore :)
I have always loved this song by Chris Isaak and it never gets old. It is just beautiful.
Saten sheets, dim lights, sipping wine & this song. I get weak hearing him sing this.
@@marilynmccormick3731 I am laughing but yessssssssssssssssssssssssss, perfect
I'm 11 and isn't the song old??? Hope u get the joke
Just beautiful🔥♥️
💜💙💛💚🧡♥️💕❤️🔥✨✨✨✨✨✨✨lovely song
I love this song… you have such a soulful voice.. I’ve never heard it on the uke before.. amazing job!! Well done.. and with a broken finger!! Hope you’ve healed by now.

Top 10 songs of all time! Song is so hypnotic I’m surprised he never had a massive hit. That guitar player is utterly amazing for writing those riffs with the tremolo.
Agreed.
This song was a huge hit.
Agreed. I didn't even know this guy until I saw this, and this voice was transcending.
Tre mende
Wow, apart from being an iconic song, I was blown away by the precision of everything I heard, from the vocals, to the perfect moment each guitar string was picked and strummed, to the perfection of the percussion.Going to have to replay....
I always assumed some studio magic was involved in the original radio version of this song, specifically pertaining to the lead vocals. Seeing how effortlessly yet perfectly Chris sings it live is beyond impressive.
You said what I was thinking so beautifully.
@@VincentVaIentine Well thank you 🙏
so did I until I learnt to play it. Never going to sound as good as these guys, but it is surprisingly do-able to do a decent sounding job. The hard part is to not rush and feel the timing of everything. And it is really fun to play. Singing it though, not so easy, haha!!
He’s got a live tuner on his voice for sure but it’s incredible performance
@@cloudthegoodkatch For sure not, guess you havent seen his performance on MTV Unplugged, no tuners involved son. And it's even better on unplugged, was abit younger aswell so that might be it.
Every now and then, there are perfect things that you find. Feels like you struck gold. This is one of them, my friends
Incredible how they can record this song with this sound quality...i can hear clearly all the instruments! Amazing!
Verdade. Eu fico fascinada. A coisa mais linda
Perfeita observação
Let's be honest, these guys are old pros. Masters.
Good eq makes wonders.
I agree

Wonderful your mother loves you❤she's looking down😊
The drum sound on 2:48 , followed by that perfect smile, just kills me. This video is a wonderful example of how a great band works. Amazing song in every technical and artistic sense!!
Like we said back in the day -- "sounds like the tape". Amazing performance Chris Isaak (and the band)!
Keep it up!!
Now im 47. My son is 16.
He plays this song by ear on piano.
Im complete. ❤
I’m 48. My son is 14 and plays this song in the guitar!!!
I'm 47 too, miss those times
all that matters achieved, congratulations both of you 🖖
Im 33 and im a towel!
Hey!
The best Chris Isaak song EVER! It gets more magical every time I hear it. Could play it over and over and over again!
I second that. Super easy to learn the basics of on a guitar too! Most magical elegance in simplicity, indeed!
Hello how are you I pray for you're keeping save and healthy over there
Amazing how he sustains the high notes!
This is Chris Isaak. Simply amazing!
I think this song is more cherished by musicians. This recording and this live performance are a treat to the ears! If you’re wondering how good his dance moves are, you might be in the wrong place.
A timeless classic, Chris has such a beautiful voice, it pairs so nicely with the guitar.

I bet Elvis would have killed this song.
Tenacious D cover is pretty good though!
@@emphotos103 She has a nice voice but her music is just the usual anonymous amorphous drivel that we've all heard a million times.
I worked years as a Bylaw Enforcement Officer and was called many times over the years to bands playing in backyards. I never shut one down because I always thought of the great music we missed that never made radio play when I was a kid. I'd hang out for a while and listen then ask them to turn it down just a little. I could spend all day in this backyard listening to Nick Stone and the Shifty Hunchbacks.
if your going to have hunchbacks in your band best they be shifty
❤
I heard this first at work, & cried. It is beautiful. The world is only going to break your heart in the background is True for me!!! I still love this love this!❤️☺️ Thanks for making such making such a heartbreaker song with a good message!😢😮
Many have and will continue to cover this beautifully heart breaking track. But nobody will ever perform it better than Chris.
Agree. Stone Sour cover is amazing but is light years away from this.
His voice is just perfect
It is part of him cause he wrote it.❤️
So true I agree
Agreed.
But in saying so, you should check out James Vincent McMorrow’s cover and see how it makes you feel.
Not many words to describe it, but it definitely does the original justice.
THE. BEST. SOLO
Seriously you have to go back and listen again and again to realize how good this is. It’s a masterpiece. Compare this to other hits with a lead guitar has some kind of an impact and you’ll find this is almost flawless.
It’s unreal that this is a one hit wonder
Agreed 😮
Its not a one hit wonder if you listen to Chris work
Столько шедевров на этой земле! И сейчас мы наслаждаемся одним из них! Это превосходная песня!
Я уже думал что Русских в комментариях не встречу. Класс!
The most amazing moving song in my life and I don't even know why
The first bars send tears down this 57 year old man's face
LOVE THIS VERSION ! Sometimes even when there's no public, we see the magic, the artists in their most common place
Nice piece this one 👌

Man, that clean tone on the strat! Love the vocals also - just a great song!
God bless.
I think this is a beautiful song,I'm 64 years and I've recently discovered this song and a few other classics I didn't know existed.
me too :)
Have you listened to ..... David A. Stewart - Lily Was Here ft. Candy Dulfer .... I think it is the best song I have ever heard, I am also 64 yrs old.
Better late than never
What a great piece of music.
What a song! It brings me back to the days of my childhood. With my inner glance I see myself as a 10-years boy living in endless bright summer day filled with joy and happiness without any particular reasons.
This live did NOT disappoint. Even the back up singers. Just lovely.
it has been pitch corrected, as have the backing vocals... to even more degree. Wax in ears?? Now listen again. The original is not f'ed with like this.
Live. To do this live like that is absolutely stunning. Thank you Chris.
This song just is such a wonderful turn on . All the instruments blend together with Chris’s voice . I have it in my most listened too . Years ago we heard it for the first time . We really fell in love to this song . Last thing she said . “Was play it again , “ I did !
Try the version when he is wearing a coat. You will kno we it when you see it. He has no bad cuts of this, might just be me.
Mediterranean sunsets, a love long gone, slow dances a life time ago. So grateful to have experienced it all. Brilliant album, brilliant artist. To everyone who knows how much this song means, cheers 🍻.

Lyrics
The world was on fire and
No one could save me but you
It's strange what desire make foolish lovers do
I'd never dreamed that I'd meet somebody like you
And I'd never dreamed that I'd love somebody like you
No, I don't want to fall in love
(This girl is only gonna break your heart)
No, I don't want to fall in love
(This girl is only gonna break your heart)
With you
With you
What a wicked game you played
To let me feel this way
What a wicked thing to do
To let me dream of you
What a wicked thing to say
You never felt this way
What a wicked thing to do
Let me dream of you
And I don't want to fall in love
(This girl is only gonna break your heart)
No, I don't want to fall in love
(This girl is only gonna break your heart)
With you
The world was on fire and
No one could save me but you
It's strange what desire will make foolish lovers do
I'd never dreamed that I'd love somebody like you
I'd never dreamed that I'd lose somebody like you
No, I don't want to fall in love
(This girl is only gonna break your heart)
No, I don't want to fall in love
(This girl is only gonna break your heart)
With you
With you
No I...
Nobody loves no one
Thank you
A lot of wrong lyrics in there lol google is your friend
Used to sing 'foolish people', it's now 'foolish lovers'.
The best cover of this song it's from band names HIM
This WORLD is only gonna break your heart..
Esta música é uma perfeição de harmonia vocal e letra. Não canso de ouvir!🥲🥲🥲
Hands down one of the greatest ballads of all time. I was a 12 year old metal head when this came on MTV and the video stopped me in my tracks every time it came on. I mean sure Helena Christensen was easy on the eyes but the song was beautifully haunting. Stands the test of time.
Oh man I was born in 83 so this song definitely help jump start my interest in girls!
I agree, born 75 and this track had a coolness even though I was a rap/metal type.
Awesome
This is the most accurate live version of a song I have ever witnessed, and I’ve seen a hell of a lot in my time. Absolutely Stunning version 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
And it is.... a rehearsal !!!
Guitar part is a bit different but still a great version
The best live version of a song I have ever heard.
I will never get tired of this song! Truly a timeless classic.
Something about this song, Chris's voice, the melody, the beat, the instruments, just resonates with my soul and transports me to a happy place.

As a teenager I used to listen to it all the time. A spent all my pocket money of the month to buy the record. I still have it. This song represents for me my melancholic youth. Still love it.
Once every 500 new songs I hear there is just that one that instantly stands out and gives me goosebumps, this is such a song, awesome. Keep it going!
Such a simple chord progression yet never gets tiring. I don't know how many times I use this song to warm up when practicing solos. The progression, pace and beauty of it brings out some of my best moments. When I look back when this came out, I think the video actually took away from how beautiful and soulful this song really is.
Why am I just learning about this amazing group of guys FIVE YEARS LATER? Why aren’t they the biggest band in the world?
I dont really know myself.
It must have been your predetermined destiny.

Thank you for keeping “our music,” alive and relevant,
I have been going to rock concerts since I was a sophomore in high school (circa 1975) and really love live venues whether it be in local bar or a large stadium/event convention center. Some bands and lead singers don't do justice to their music live but Chris Isaak and band members exemplify true talent and commitment to their craft. What a pleasure to sit back and listen to such a great band. Keep up the good work and continued success!

The sound of the guitar and his voice is just 'haunting'..
HAUNTING is the perfect word too describe this hauntingly beautiful song. I love Chris Isaac's voice.❤
Everybody's trying to stay in the background. master of understatement and cool. live version in late 90 was actually better because he had that masterful surfer guitarist
Blue Spanish Sky is another great tune of this album.
