Kurt’s version of The man who sold the world gets stuck in my brain daily
I’m here. 2024 at the age of 43. I remember watching this the night it first aired. I was just a little boy still at my mom’s. No worries, no hurt from the world yet. Got the CD for my birthday and listened to this song over and over. Still love it after all these years. Timeless!
I'm 43 too and will never forget watching this when it first aired on MTV. I also got the CD for Christmas and couldn't stop listening to it. Oh the nostalgia...

43 as well. I recorded this on a VHS tape and played it constantly until the
CD came out. Same with most of the MTV Unplugged series.
Bowie (as far as i know) wrote this song with the influence of his brother, who was a cultured and intelligent young man that had dealt with serious mental health issues. Bowie had a good relationship with him, he also introduced many aspects of art and philosophy to Bowie, definitely influencing Bowie’s art. Bowie told that his brother would sometimes go on long trips and dissappear for long times. One day he went on another one of these trips, and eventually committed suicide by lying on the railway.
RIP to all those beatiful souls we lost who were fighting their own demons.

I MISS HIM TOO
I was only 7, i remember seeing news about kurt's suicide, but i did not know him til 6 years later when i saw "smells like teen spirit" video.
Apparently Bowie liked Kurt's version. "I was simply blown away when I found that Kurt Cobain liked my work, and have always wanted to talk to him about his reasons for covering 'The Man Who Sold the World'" and that "it was a good straight forward rendition and sounded somehow very honest. It would have been nice to have worked with him, but just talking with him would have been real cool."
Bowie called Nirvana's cover "heartfelt".
"If the mark of a good cover is that people do not even realize it's a cover, Nirvana certainly did a good job"
Very cool. Thanks for sharing that

+mclarenV12 So what you are basically saying is that it is "smart" to OD on heroin and blow your head off in order to commit suicide, along with that you are sure that such a death would be painless.
How the fuck do you know what it is like to die with a bullet to your head even if you are high?
Where people mourn Kurt's death, you say that it is smart to die in such a manner and not to tolerate certain bullshit that surrounds the artists. You must be depressed yourself for having said such crap.
+mclarenV12 You need to get a life dude. I was just talking about you not judging another person's way of committing suicide. Although that is true that people nowadays are becoming more and more narcissistic, but it has existed since the story came into existence.
Although your fake hypotheses is based upon your high school grade CNS based Biology which you have cleverly combined with your bullshit theory of dying while OD on drug in order to avoid any pain. You are no one to comment on that, fucking shithead.
My own grandfather succumbed to cancer and I know how painful and dreadful that disease is all about.
There are other people who have the will to survive as well.
I'd rather recommend you to stop making your fake hypotheses and pretending as if you are a mature 30 y.o. arse and stop whining over this ever changing society. Nothing is stagnant in this life, accept it as it comes to you rather than crying like a li'l bitch and saying that you are mature enough to understand things whilst all you are doing is crying and saying that it is "better to die" after having seen everything change around you. Thanks for reading, hope you get your peace in this life(or through death, whichever way you wanna choose, lmfao).
