I’ll take hourly hygienist in my state make $40-50hr . I’m a dental assistant of 5 years. Going back for hygiene. Taking science again in January . I already have an associate, bachelor degree so my basics are done .

Yessss I love to see other black hygienist..7yrs in the game. I'm on production and I love it! Has its ups and downs with no shows but as long as you have a steady schedule and they pay production on x-rays too #Bank
Jasmine T, you are right! Actually is illegal to receive a 1099 because we are not independent contractors. We work under the dentist's supervision. Dental offices should pay their part of taxes. Check information about form SS8 or form 9819 from the IRS.
When you're on commission do you have to sell the different services to the client, like say "Do you want floride or you should get floride." I don't want to be a sales person but it sounds good.
I don’t know where you are located, but in the first half you talked about the temp situation and being paid the same day with no taxes taken out. So you know that it is illegal to classify a hygienist as an independent contractor. You can check with Labor Board and the IRS and you can also research information for 1099. At tax time you are paying 12% rather than 5%, also nothing goes towards your SSN and if you get injured at work you are not covered under the office workers compensation. So I think it is wrong to accept a check without any taxes taken out

That is insane. I had an African American hygienist once and she was AMAZING! She was obviously hired and did an amazing job. Don't let people white, tan, brown, people take the steam out of your dreams. You go for it girl. I'm also a DH student right now and there are all sorts of different ethnicities in my class including African Americans in the senior class above me. I'm located in California.

1099 not worth it bc employer not paying his/her social security portion. Unless your making $50-$60 in the city.
