Thanks for posting. I was waiting for this for a long time. You are still a genius sir! I'm in London, and i'll hit up the Forbidden Planet for some vintage hunting.!
I fixed mine using some thermoplastic beads, just melted them and shaped it into a thin point, it worked great. That stuff would be a great tool in your arsenal
Fine work yet Again TP! -using that existing injection molded right-angled plastic to create a part bearing function in mind, instead of just recreating the shape ... - that's why we're all here and will stay here. Absolute Legend :)
Perfectly done. I like „upcycling“ methods. To use the rest of the plastic box. Really clever. I used the bottoms of a haribo box for the underside of my recreation hoverboard. Keep up the good work. 😊
I have the tiny clicker bit of one of mine in a bag somewhere as I could never figure out how to re attach it due to it being the very definition of a fiddly bit, ( possibly plastic weld or superglue) This is a great alternative fix
It would be hard to reattach the broken piece as the join would be so weak and to make it click it has a lot of force applied. So I'm not sure if it's even possible.
Love your yavin and dagobah versions! would love to see you recreate the version from the battle of endor, when he gets shot trying to break into the shield generator bunker!`
I never actually liked the clicker despite R2 being one of my favourite childhood toys. I don't know what it was, but it was like that serling crawling sensation people get with nails on a blackboard, touching polystyrene, that sort of thing.
I just opened my r2 sensorscope version for very first time as i need to re do the silver chrome on it that i poorly did back in mid 90s or something with silver paint, but inside it had the full clicker piece same at the basic r2, so not sure why your one on this had the bigger hole.
Does the sensor scope clicker ring fit into the solid dome version ? If the plastic is better quality in the sensor scope version and less likely to break, providing it`ll fit in the solid dome version it makes sense to just swap them out if you have a beyond repair sensor scope figure but the clicker ring is in good condition you could just pop it into the solid dome.
Dave is toy genius
The best part of my morning is drinking my coffee and a new ToyPolloi video.😃☕️🤖
Poor little R2. My fave SW character.

Thanks. Lots of people have asked for this fix.
I've been waiting three years for this! Thanks for giving us the fix!
It's been on my list of projects for a long time. There are others people often ask for , but this was a popular one.
@@toypolloi You've made me a happy camper because I know I have at least six 1977, solid dome R2s with broken clickers!
Man if they all clocked fine this would one short video! I never knew that about injection molds. Great work Dave!
R2-D2 and C3-PO were my frist Star Wars toys in 1977. Both now have very little crome left on them...... But I still love them both.

This is a very satisfying result. Never thought it could be fixed without a replacement piece.
Hey Dave
Well thought out as always.
Take care
I am going to fix my vintage '77 R2D2 using your method straight away. It's been broken since probably '78 or so!

Your ingenuity never fails to impress, nice repair!
Simple and effective… you can’t ask for more🤷♂️ Great video Dave!👍
Awesome repair I really liked your technique of using the piece of wood to support the plastic while cutting it……very nice….
Thanks. You can repair most things with simple tools I find.

It was right about 2:19 when I was wondering if I was watching the Lock Picking Lawyer!
Amazing video, excactly the repair I still need to finish. Thank You very much for your exvellent tips, I was running out of ideas.😇👍
Great fix Dave, nothing much else to say.
You know the click when you hear it. You don't have to see it, you can hear it and feel it in your hands as it clicks and brings you back.
Nice repair
Great fix!
great video as always, look foreward to your repair tips, keep up the great work
Thanks, will do!

Thanks for posting .🖖
Very inventive! Thank you!
Yes! Thanks! Now I can fix mine! Mahalo!!
cool repairing project!
The solid dome sounds better when you twist it one way than it does the other. You can hear it on the third one.
Genius!!
Thanks man!
Good idea the box.I keep the idea in mind ;)
Love your videos! Not to be picky about it, but the original R2 and R5 figures have more of a high pitched ping sound, not just a dull click.
Mine an early 77/78 model certainly makes more of a Doing sound than a click
Love your yavin and dagobah versions! would love to see you recreate the version from the battle of endor, when he gets shot trying to break into the shield generator bunker!`
You fix the clickers but can you fix any bad motivators?
I see what you did there 😂
I would have thought for sure the broken off piece would still be inside r2
Yeah me too. It does not have a hole to fall out off, does it? So where did it go?
Depends if someone tried to fix it before and had already opened R2 up.
I wonder if a zip tie or a medicine bottle would work. Your solution is brilliant, though, as usual!
If you use a Sprucefield from any model kit you get a more satisfying Doing sound..
There's so many of them
I never actually liked the clicker despite R2 being one of my favourite childhood toys. I don't know what it was, but it was like that serling crawling sensation people get with nails on a blackboard, touching polystyrene, that sort of thing.
If you had looked inside the body you may well have found the broken piece down one side, since there is no way for it to fall out.

Can't say I have tried. I would imagine the sensorscope version will fit in a solid done, but not the other way around.
How do you replace the body sticker on a vintage R2-D2? Additionally where can I get the vintage replacement body stickers? - William
I have other videos on this, just search toy Polloi R2 and they will come up. Cheers
How "bad" would it have been if you had none that were broken? 😂
I know. I really thought I had more that didn't work.
I am lazy, I think I would've tried using a zip/cable tie. 🤷
you aren't using superglue correctly unless at least one finger gets glued to something.
😂🖖
Oh no. ASMR2-D2
