Could you say, in a way, V could be seen as a sort of "brother" of Nero? V was created by Vergil, like Nero. And there's also the meta knowledge of V being based on the original design of Nero.

Dmc was the type of game that had a deep story and is often underlooked

I love how much extra knowledge you've brought to me and how it's made me have a deeper understanding and appreciation, not just for DMC, but for Japanese storytelling in general.
I'm kinda stoked that I inadvertently put a twist in the soul-splitting idea in my own writing - in this case a soul split away and sealed in jewellery to keep someone from dying, but it's got long term damage and consequences for both parties. I had no idea that it had those connotations in Japanese folklore.
Legend of Mana's Jumi people took inspiration from the same concepts. They all wear fancy jewelry with their souls sealed within, and when someone steals a girl's pendant from around her neck, she turns to dust.
@@jackstack2136 I hadn't heard of that work. I was working on something I'd seen on the DMC wiki about the Perfect Amulet regarding Eva and positing that was why Trish is resurrected when she's killed by Mundus, (though it's not about Trish, it's about another character) as well as the idea that Yamato's had so much of Vergil's Will and Power pushed into her for years, that she's saved (as a semi-sentient being) enough of her idea of him to give to Nero when she chooses to work with him and that's where Vergil's influence/manifestation come from, as well as his Stand....er Devil Trigger. I mean Devil Trigger.

Great video! May have been pertinent to mention the names of Dante and Virgil being directly linked to a story about descending into hell together, but that's just a nitpick and may have been outside the narrative scope of gothic western lit to eastern japanese media. Either way, wonderful analysis! I laughed really hard at "Virgil just tried to k*** himself" because yeah, he did didn't he?

Makes sense why that last scene in DMCV Veril sounds happy to fight along with his brother Dante 🤗 but if DMCV was where Vergil gained compassion and love to humans how the hell did he become a father?!? Unless it seems he just had a child with some random human without being cautious 🤣 cause it doesnt make sense why he would be romantic with a partner when he had yet to understand that concept

Honestly the more i think about it. If they wanted to "retcon" it by Sparda being alive this whole time and having a third son. Cause again why would vergil do that. He didn't like humanity
@@One4theUnderdog I would like to finally have a game of him and him alone going back to that specific time frame. Maybe he was curious 🤷♀️ felt some lingering emotions he could not process but decided to explore in hopes of gaining more power. Eventually accepted the love or sexual desire then later because of some event in that short time frame reverted and denied those aspects of himself again as he felt betrayal or self ego telling himself no he doesnt need "love". I think it could be an interesting game. Like capacom already has the fanbase on the palm of their hands, we would be happy to see more Vergil, more "lore" but are mostly in it for the shenanigans
(Still though, Vergil has mommy issues so sensing that from a women then the women later repeating what his mom did to protect him could be a huge trigger of change.)
you can clearly have a children without love. Many people did this. But I think it would have been a light years better story if Nero had been Dante's son, because Dante has certainly fucked half the world. Plus Vergil's name literally means virgin. :D

In DMC5 If you summon your doppelganger as Vergil he will mimic your movement with various delays - fast, slow and reeaal slow (you can change it with D-Pad).
Getting double damage is nice, but there are many different synergies you can create with Doppel beyond just making two delayed moves:
0. Doppelganger activation creates an explosion that launches enemies high up (doesn't matter if you or enemies are airborne) it deals some damage and can stagger some large enemies, provides invincibility during activation, affected by movement inputs (allowing Vergil to float for a little time in any direction) and activation can cancel almost anything you do;
1. Doppel only uses Yamato and can do individual Judgment Cuts (useful with charged Beowulf attacks and Mirage Edge throw);
2. Doppel doesn't actually "copy" what you do - he is more of a puppet like V's familiars - if Vergil and Doppel "sandwich" The opponent they will do reverse inputs depending on the direction they are facing (understanding this is important as it allows you to combine normals and specials);
3. Doppel will always teleport to you if he performs a perfect judgment cut (even if you're not using Yamato) Alternatively you can change Doppel's speed to the one he is already on and it will teleport him to Vergil (always to Vergil's right) All these techniques provide high cancel properties. Normal teleport doesn't have such effect;
4. Doppel can't do Trick Up and Trick Down - this is the most important technique to master in separating Doppel and Vergil;
5. Doppel disappears when Vergil performs his ultimate attacks (JC.End, Hell on Earth, Deep Stinger);
6. You have full controll of Doppel during taunts (he cannot copy any of them including air taunts) Bloody Palace taunt cannot be cancelled by attacking and so works best for stylish solo Doppel combos;
7. Vergil's Doppelganger is always in Sdt but he cannot access unique Sdt combos unless Vergil is also in Sdt, but Doppel runs (a little bit) faster than base Vergil.

great video! I've been revising the DMC series lately, and this was a refreshing take on an old favorite.
the concept is about a person unmasking the persona they had created to themselves and started to believe and removing the illusions of their coping mechanisms and accepting their true self but its funny how a lot the historic and cultural symbolism used to describe the messages of smc3 will only be understood by the japanese playes and very few minorites outside of japan will understand or appriciate them..i dont even know if the developers knows this or not because this was suppose to be a game to appeal to an international audiance an almost caricature of how japanese people view the western extravagant man .. which goes to show the difference in cultural education and knowledge between the average japanes and western man

This is more from the series in general, but the background of his office is clearly shown to be strewn with alcohol and hard liquor, such as the empty Jack Daniel's bottles across the floor in DMC3.

One of my favorite instances of the doppleganger is probably Persona 4. The Persona series are full of dopplegangers or "shadows" as the game calls them, each shadow representing an exaggerated flaw of each of the main characters. And in order for the characters to gain a new persona they have to accept their shadow, except the worst parts of who they are and gain a new ability from it. I feel like that ties perfectly into this vid.
