    For as much as we pay for arenas, they should last at least 50 years

    • @AndrewKerr5
      @AndrewKerr5 Рік тому +8

      I’m from the UK and our stadiums last for decades. Our areas last for at least 50 years.
      The USA needs to start to place 50 year leases on teams. For the money spent on them, they need to last 50 years with a mid life renovation factored in. Or, follow the UK model, where no tax money is spent on stadiums and owners spend that money on them, and to a degree can improve them as they see fit. Arenas should be owned by the local council, who will take all the revenue from non sporting events and for sports events take a $2 fee from each ticket sold for the likes of environmental services. Unless a owner of a franchise pony’s up the money to build their arena, in which case the council takes $2 above every ticket sold.
      Imagine what a few billion saved on arenas and stadiums could be spent on, Teachers?

      @@AndrewKerr5 Most buildings become obsolete in far less time, especially considering how fast technology changes. For example, modern telecommunications technologies like WiFi and cellular phones did not exist 50 years ago, even more recently.

      FACTS... DROPPING SOME KNOWLEDGE. 50 YEAR MINIMUM CONTRACT WITH ALL STADIUMS AND ARENAS. TAX PAYERS NEED TO GET MONEY'S WORTH. LOYAL FAN BASES GET CRUSHED WITH RELOCATION. EVERY LEAGUE NEED TO HAVE SALARY CAPS TOO. SOME PLAYERS ARE OVER PAID AND HARDLY PLAY.

      It’s amazing the short life span of arenas today. I’m 41 and remember Boston Garden, Chicago Stadium, Maple Leaf Gardens, Montreal Forum. In the NFL had Cleveland Stadium, Astrodome, Anaheim Stadium, Mile High Stadium, RFK Stadium, Foxboro Stadium just some places that were bare bones and now it’s basically keeping up with the Jones’s, there’s nothing wrong with any of these facilities from a structure standpoint. Why I really wish cities would collude NO tax payer funds for rich billionaires. Let them fund all these stadiums, truth is the citizens get nothing out of this, parking, concessions all outrageous, i am so cool watching a game in the comfort of my home. It’s lack of priorities, and I enjoy this channel because I do like Stadium, arena talk. Again I’m 41, the first time I was like whoa this is crazy was when the Falcons were in talks and eventually left the Georgia Dome. I remember the Falcons playing in Fulton County Stadium and was 10 when they moved into Georgia Dome, which hosted two Super Bowls, im like wow that is now obsolete? And it’s only continued seeing the St. Louis/ Los Angeles Rams, Texas Rangers, Atlanta Braves, these teams have had 3 home stadiums in the last 30 years, crazy. I remember when the Rams and Raiders played in Los Angeles and moved to St. Louis and Oakland in 1995, I was 13 years old. Now if a stadium is “boring” or doesn’t have “natural light” it’s considered “outdated”, why again these rich billionaires need start paying this themselves. In the 90s I understood the Texas Rangers leaving Arlington Stadium which was originally a minor league stadium, the Cleveland Browns leaving Cleveland Stadium built in 1932, the Celtics/ Bruins leaving Boston Garden, those places were unfit, however now? It’s ridiculous. The Brewers threatening relocate, I view these renovations as a “want” and not a “need”. A “need” was Chicago Stadium where the Bulls and Blackhawks played in basically a barn, why cities need start colluding with no more tax payer funded stadiums, that or need start making these leases 50 years. I point back to Stan Kronke who I think is a scum bag leaving his home State however give credit for at least funding Sofi Stadium himself, that was another place I couldn’t believe was abandoned after only 20 years the dome in St. Louis, again nothing wrong with the place structurally, was glad see the city receive a billion dollar victory against Kronke and NFL, because otherwise the tax payers would have been totally screwed left holding the bag over the Dome in St. Louis that wasn’t even paid off when the Rams left town.

    Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle the only thing old about it is the entire roof. It’s the original roof from the Seattle Coliseum from 1962. When Key Arena was demolished, everything except the roof was taken out as AEG (the construction company) dug more down to expand the layout so hockey would work. The City of Seattle deemed the roof a historic landmark as why everything else was demolished to build an entire new arena.

I'm surprised the building survived a Nickelback concert a couple of months back. Also, that's the CalgaryNEVER project that was kiboshed by the un-athletic mayor and council back in 2016 at 1:35.

    i think if the angels end up moving to long beach the ducks might buy angels property lot and build their new arena there so heres hoping the angels leave anaheim

      The Angels stadium location is 150 acres. The Ducks location is 100 acres. They can easily fit both in that location.

    I absolutely love your content my brother!!! You should consider doing some videos on the older defunct NHL arenas. Such as the omni,Nassau coliseum, the Suncoast dome😅!!! I attended all of them and they were just brutal 😮

    You know they just put in new seats inside the Honda Center within the last 4-5 years or so right? All black seats. The OC Vibe thing is still being discussed.
    Please do some research. Some of your last videos have sadly been clickbait with no supported facts…

    its crazy how much nicer nationwide arena is (built in 2000) compared to some similar peers on this list. ive been to PNC arena and it sucks. bland, and too much NC state branding during canes games

      The Panthers and Canes were in the playoffs this year and are gaining success in their areas. And the panthers won a conference title. The games get outsold in curtain days due to how competitive and great ownership the Panthers have. Yeah we lost the cup but still people love this team down here.
