Nice video! I really liked the sound of the FR4 and POM plates. It´s incredible how much a plate can change the sound of a board. I wish more manufacturers gave us a choice of plates, specially in the more budget side. If the Sugar65 can come with an FR4 plate, why can´t other ¨budget¨ boards?
Thank you! Quite a versatile board with all the plates and different mounting methods as well! I feel the budget end of the market is getting oversaturated these days so manufacturers may need to differentiate more. Maybe plate options is one of the ways 🤔 Appreciate the comment 🌻!
bigger and "known company" tend to cut their cost production while competing for the "budget prices" without having to lose their qualities. thats why plates are considered as extras.
entire keyboard sounds really good on all four plates. especially the stabs, that's really well tuned if it's like that out of the box. have a feeling this one will be really fun to mod!
I've always found NuPhy stabilizers to be well tuned out of the box! Most of the NuPhy boards I've handled in the past were all plastic, so it's nice to see them go with an aluminum option this time around. The PC bottom case is also a nice aesthetic choice and helps with the wireless performance of the board!
I liked top mount the best because I'm a bit tired from using/testing too many gasket mount keyboards. Plate is more a matter of taste, but either aluminum or POM for me! The Gem80 doesn't require foam, but I would personally put in at least the case foam (but this is all preference) 🌞
보강판에 따른 소리 변화를 듣고 싶었는데 드디어 관련 영상이 올라왔네요!! 같은 조건으로 녹음이 된거라면 기본 fr4 는 많이 도각도각 거리고 fr4 기준으로 알루미늄은 많이 카랑카랑 해지며 폴리는 울리는 느낌, 폼은 큰 차이를 못 느끼겠지만 뭔가 경쾌해진 느낌... 처럼 구별이 되는거 같네요. 와 근데 진짜 내가 원하는게 뭔지 잘 모르겠넹... 보강판 바뀔 때마다 게스킷도 바뀌는데 그에 따른 소리 변화도 크던가요? 그리고 라스베리 스위치 느낌은 어떤지도 궁금합니다. 지금 장바구니에서 주문을 어떻게 해야 할까 고민중이라..ㅋㅋ

If you're talking about NuPhy-specific keycaps, you might have some luck on the NuPhy Korean website (nuphy.kr) once they update it to include the Gem80. I believe they had some Hangul keycaps on offer with their Air and Halo series of boards on the site! Thank you for watching 🌞

Thank you for leaving a comment! I just checked the website and it does seem a bit lighter in person. I've only seen the mocha in person, but I found myself wondering what some of the brighter colors might look like hahaha.. It's also because I have so many neutral/greyish/cream boards, so my eyes are very biased. The mocha is beautiful in person and perfect for a more subtle look for your desk. I also think it's a more flexible option down the road if you want switch to another set of keycaps. On the other hand, if you're looking to introduce something a bit more fun, I would consider a color!

I'm debating whether to go for the Halo 75 v2 or GEM 80 so just gathering more info especially when I've never really 'built' a keyboard before. Nonetheless, really loved the quality and professionalism you put into your production!
Halo75 V2 video coming out later this week! If you want to tinker, Gem80 is going to be the option for you. Otherwise, the Halo is excellent right out of the box and you literally don't need to do anything to it!
It's a specification that you can find on their website! They state that the front of the keyboard (the side facing you) is 21.5mm tall! If you need a wristrest, NuPhy sells one that perfectly aligns with the board!
@@medeirov If you're in the market for a custom TKL, the three most prominent options to me are this Gem80, Neo80, and Luminkey80. Compared to these options, the Gem80 holds up quite well with a unique "NuPhy look" to it. It sounds great and you can tinker with it a lot using all the different mounting options available. All three options are going to be solid choices though.

FR4이 POM에 비해 더 뻣뻣한 편이였고 사운드 면에선 조금 더 클래키하다 느껴지더라구요. 영상에서의 타이핑 테스트는 POM과 FR4 전부 올폼으로 레코딩한거라 아마 사운드가 비슷하게 들리셨을 것 같아요. 노폼일 경우라면 FR4이 더 클래키하고 POM이 thocky한 것 같습니다. 질문에 답변이 되었는지 모르겠어요. 더 궁금하신게 있으시면 댓글 남겨 주세요 🌞
Got it thanks so much. I was debating between POM and PC plate. I already ordered the POM plate before watching the video assuming it'd be the thockiest but I could probably do other mods to achieve it haha. How big of a difference is between POM and PC? Is it mostly feel?@@TAZAKEY
@@ratchetchico Honestly, between POM and PC, there's not much difference in feel at all. PC may sound just a little deeper than POM, but even that is going to be negligible imo. The mounting style and foam will be the biggest levers for the sound between those two!
Just want to ask about your build with Aluminium palte When you said "no foam", do you keep any specific foams back in the keyboard, or you just removed them all? And the sound is so great, so I wanna build one too 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
I removed all layers of foam for the aluminum plate test! No plate foam, no case foam underneath the PCB in the case, and no foam sheet between the PCB and switches! For NuPhy's first custom keyboard option, it's a really great option if you're a fan of the aesthetics 🌞 Thank you for the question!

@@XuongTranTrieu The plastic bottom case definitely changes the way the Gem80 sounds compared to fully aluminum boards! I found it to be generally less resonant with the plastic bottom. Secretly, I think plastic and acrylic cases sound great, but aluminum definitely has its place in terms of physical touch. I have indeed tried all three of these keyboards! And I actually have videos for each one, so you can see for yourself which one might work best for you. Here's how I would sum things up: Gem80 has the most unique look of the three keyboards, Neo80 is the best for those who like experimenting with different mods, Luminkey80 is the least hassle since you can buy prebuilt. All three boards are amazing options and can sound good with or without foam. Sorry this is not a straight answer, but I really think you can't go wrong with any of these choices. You'll have to decide based on which aesthetic/color you prefer!
wow wow, now that's intrigued!! I've never tried any plastic/acrylic case since I think they might sound cheap, and built quality might not feel so good then your comment appeared! Thank you for using the code 🌞 It honestly helps a ton, so I really appreciate it Incidentally, I found the top mount most interesting, but I think I'm currently in a phase where gasket-mount keyboards are just too common everywhere in the market (gasket-mount and maybe even a bit of PE foam fatigue). Either the FR4 or POM plates were my preferences as well, depending on whether I'm feeling a sharper or softer sound!

@@rhubarb3065 Believe it or not, I don't actually have a scale at home hahahah... What I can say though is that this board is lighter than your average alu board since the bottom case is actually plastic. Let me know your thoughts on the board once you receive if you get the chance!!

I’m a streamer!!!” Keyboards that have RGB shoved in every millimeter of the board, with the half transparent/half crazy neon color that looks like it belongs to a 15 year old who watches way too many Twitch streamers. This board is what I want to type on all day. Subtlety and good color pallets are so much nicer. Keep up the great taste in keyboard blends!

@@bpersimmon 저도 그랬습니다ㅋㅋㅋ 짧게 누피에서 올린 영상가지고는 통 감이안오더라구요 ㅋㅋ 근데제가 손구락 힘이좀 쌔서 살짝 강하게 툭툭치는 버릇이 있어서 저는 고민끝에 라즈베리로 갔어요 ㅋㅋ 쪼끔더 로우피치같기도 했구요 ㅋㅋ 지금은 애플 매직키보드 쓰는데… 얘가좀 챱챱거리는것과 바닥에대고 타건하는듯한 매우낮은느낌… 그리고 “마 살살좀 치라;;” 라고 호소하는듯해서..ㅋㅋ 사실 저는 키린이지만 레이니75 오고있는데도 불구하고 디자인과 마감 등등 너무 개취라 질렀어요. 불씨는 키캡갈아끼우려다가 맘에드는거 찾다보니 “뭐야 맘에드는건 개비싸네;;” 였습니다. 그래서 돈좀더주고 써보고 혹시모를 되팔수도있는 상황에도 라즈베리가 더 유리하지않나 하는 생각도 있었습니다 ㅋㅋ

How does it feel to type on this keyboard? Is it similar to the Halo75? That premium feeling, or is it even better?
I would say that it's even better, especially since you can customize the feel of the keyboard more freely with the Gem80!

Agreed - and it's actually the stock configuration too! The Gem80 sounds great out of the box and can be customized further to your liking!

That would be the PC plate! But also consider that sometimes it's not the deepest sounding plate that makes a keyboard sound the way you want it to!

I removed all layers of foam for the aluminum plate test! No plate foam, no case foam underneath the PCB in the case, and no foam sheet between the PCB and switches!
For NuPhy's first custom keyboard option, it's a really great option if you're a fan of the aesthetics 🌞

@@XuongTranTrieu The plastic bottom case definitely changes the way the Gem80 sounds compared to fully aluminum boards! I found it to be generally less resonant with the plastic bottom. Secretly, I think plastic and acrylic cases sound great, but aluminum definitely has its place in terms of physical touch.
I have indeed tried all three of these keyboards! And I actually have videos for each one, so you can see for yourself which one might work best for you. Here's how I would sum things up:
Gem80 has the most unique look of the three keyboards, Neo80 is the best for those who like experimenting with different mods, Luminkey80 is the least hassle since you can buy prebuilt. All three boards are amazing options and can sound good with or without foam.
Sorry this is not a straight answer, but I really think you can't go wrong with any of these choices. You'll have to decide based on which aesthetic/color you prefer!
wow wow, now that's intrigued!! I've never tried any plastic/acrylic case since I think they might sound cheap, and built quality might not feel so good then your comment appeared! I think I might try some acrylic built keeb soon 🥹

Do you recommend strip or top mount for a clearer typing sound?
I recommend top mount - you will hear the PCB and plate more vs. it being more muffled with a gasket.

Incidentally, I found the top mount most interesting, but I think I'm currently in a phase where gasket-mount keyboards are just too common everywhere in the market (gasket-mount and maybe even a bit of PE foam fatigue).
Either the FR4 or POM plates were my preferences as well, depending on whether I'm feeling a sharper or softer sound!

What was your assembled weight? I'm assuming the listed weight of 1120g on the website is for the unassembled wired version, and not the tri-mode.
@@rhubarb3065 Believe it or not, I don't actually have a scale at home hahahah... What I can say though is that this board is lighter than your average alu board since the bottom case is actually plastic.

@@TAZAKEY I meant the keyboard itself, looks interesting from the bottom but rather understated on the top. Or maybe the soft edges keycaps caused it for me. Well preferences i guess. Cool video tho

@@TAZAKEY I think it looks amazing. I’m completely over the “look at me! I’m a streamer!!!” Keyboards that have RGB shoved in every millimeter of the board, with the half transparent/half crazy neon color that looks like it belongs to a 15 year old who watches way too many Twitch streamers.
This board is what I want to type on all day. Subtlety and good color pallets are so much nicer. Keep up the great taste in keyboard blends!
