First term that comes up to me is “brittle beard”. Having that alliteration of BB makes it stick better and doesn’t reference a moisture term. Even though more syllables, maybe “bird’s nest beard” accomplishes a sense of feeling and still alliterates the B.
@DanCBearded "brittle beard" would still create confusion. For example, as a Greek, I'm sure my beard texture is naturally more brittle/coiled than what a Western European would consider healthy. I would use the term "flakey beard", it clearly describes the symptoms of a beard in need of some TLC
I changed the way I apply products and in what/with order and WOW! I have to say thank-you the difference in appearance is outstanding this is thanks to you! So thanks! 🤟
I’ve often thought of mine as “dry” when it has a “hay” like feeing. After watching vid makes better sense to me a dry beard would be itchy/flaky etc. best I could think would be a “rough” feeing vs soft and conditioned. Cheers!
I feel the definition of "business beard" is a beard that is well kept and has purpose. Short or long it's what define the person and makes that person unique or different. I've went into work with no oils or balm an it was messy which if you have days where it's a little off, we are the only ones to notice everyone else may not say anything.
I call it allergy beard. My fabulous face sweater always seems more brittle, more itchy, more "breakable" if that's a term when the pollen counts are high or when the cold north wind begins to blow. Just like folks don't understand that you can easily become more dehydrated in the winter, most can't comprehend that allergies can be a pain in the winter time also.
I like your viewpoint on the ‘business beard’. Never subscribed to the theory that your personal preference, with regard to hair and/or beard length, had anything to do with being proficient or better at your business ability or success!!
Great video! I for the longest time always associated a dry beard with I must be doing something wrong. When I had a "wet" beard I always noticed it just didn't feel right to me. It wasn't until I found my current beard product company and your videos that I found I much prefer the dry beard. Thanks as always for what you do for us Dan!
@@DanCBearded only speak realness brother I’m on 11 months of my beard growth first time I’ve ever went for a yeard loving every moment of it although at times it’s ruff with eating and my mustache always wants to urk me😩😂
Absolutely fantastic video Dan! A great subject to expand more on! Instead of “dry beard” I would maybe go with “irritated beard” or “tangled beard” ? 🤷♂️ something along those lines. 👊🤘
Great video Dan = only thing I can attribute to this subject is my water intake- I used to have a problem with the right front side of my beard being tough to comb through- but increased water intake solved it instantly- I also feel like the more water I drink through out my day allows my beard to become fuller and more crisp. Following beard routine- Butter at night-Beard wash daily in shower- get beard dry 85-90% - add oil - sit 3-5 minutes- blow dry and heat brush Sides and mustache- = Seasoned beard -better term. Appreciate all you do.Ty Dan.
Hi Dan and thank you for yet another interesting and thoughtful video. I would lean more towards a term like fatigue. Cause I suffer from being burned out which we in Sweden call Fatigue Syndrome. When comparing the two situations with the beard being dry and being burned out I’d say the beard is maybe a little burned out thus you could say it’s a fatigue beard. Now to another matter and a slight problem as well. As I mentioned I live in Sweden and use only Swedish beard brands. Mostly cause they’re damn good but also cause it’s darn expensive shipping from the US (and that’s where most brands are at). Now to my problem. I use beard butter for my nightly routine and now the only company in Sweden that makes beard butter has taken a break due to personal issues. So now I need to find a new beard butter brand and preferably within the EU/EC as ordering from outside will add tax and extra fees from our postal service here in Sweden. Do you or any of the followers on here know of a beard brand or store that has beard butter among their inventory? Don’t think I need to add that I’m desperate for help but I did it anyway.
Great video Dan! I didn't think of the more literal term of dry beard being just the absence of water. My mind jumps right to the brittle, itchy beard. Perhaps brittle beard would apply a little more closely? I can't really think of anything else, but will ponder it. Cheers Dan, being the trusted teacher as always! 👊🔥🍻
I live in the south and work under a porta cool water fan in the hot summer time. you should do a video on humidity and the extrema impact it has on a beard. high humidity can make your beard look like goldilocks!! extrema waves and huge dips! Any good advice for humid beard killing weather? 🤣I know it sounds crazy but its a real problem.😫
Great summary of what this actually means. I have learned from your videos what it actually means, but this is great to have it be summarized in one video! edit: Not really sure how to describe dry beard, other than this video. There are so many different things that go along with it. Understanding what it actually means is very important.
Great video Dan. I think people confuse dry with the beard not being soft to the touch also. Thinking itchy beard, non-moist beard, stale beard, parched beard, arid beard?
I have beard situation reminiscent of the first definitionof a dry beard you gave. My problem is that my beard primarily on both sides of my chin is brittle. On the same time I have some problems with a bit oily skin and sometimes pimples in that same area. I try to follow your advice, inkluding hydration, but maybe i need to wash more often.
Dry as in your beard on the outside does not feel wet, yes that’s okay. You want to be able to nourish with things like oil though so it doesn’t become brittle
I started to style my beard during the day with some water. I rub some water on my skin and I try to remove the split in two. It do work well for restyling, but I'm not sure that it's good for the long run. Do I remove my oil with it. It's often hours after I did put oil. 🌹
Hi Dan. I would like to get a matte look on my beard as well. I currently shower at night, use beard oil, then beard butter before bed. Morning, I wet my beard, use beard oil, then hair dryer for style, but I always come out with shiny beard??? How do I get the matte finish??? Thanks.

Brittle might be the favorite so far

Well said!
I use both definitions of dry. I don't want my beard feeling wet, but it needs proper moisture. Figuring that out took time
Spot on!
This was very helpful and brought a much needing understanding regarding "Dry beard".

I agree! Unfortunately that’s not how the term is commonly used
Glad you are covering terminology. It is so confusing when terms are not well understood. Thank you DanC. Maybe Brittle Beard? Barren Beard?
Barren has several meanings, so no go on that one but brittle would work!
I used to work outside a lot in the heat and I would drink lots of water to avoid a dry beard, it really does help! awesome video Dan! 💯
Heck yeah!

When I don't drink enough... I relate it to straw, a hay bale, or birds nest feel in beard.. Hydrate, wash, and oil usually remedy the issue...

I am not aware of any, unfortunately. However, the seven potions balm is like a butter
Thanks Dan! I’ll check that one out. Sadly butters doesn’t feel as common in Europe as they do in the US.
This is very informative and thought out informational video! I prefer to have a “ dry “ to the touch beard. I’m not the biggest fan of the sheen.
Thanks Daniel and I agree on that preference

So true! It is interesting how terms get attached. I like itchy beard, because if it is "dry" it is likely itchy too

Wash more often, for sure. Exfoliating is key too
If I’m outside working and sweating bad, my beard feels like straw.
Hate that straw feeling
I normally would call it unhealthy or rough beard
I’ll take that!
Man I work out 7 days a week drink a gallon and a half of water a day no matter what I do my beard is so dry and crunchy
What beard oil and beard wash brands are you using?
I notice I twist the patch under my lip, and that causes a bit of pain sometimes
Oh yeah, that is normally a nervous type habit. Try to replace with with something healthier like eating a mint
For me, dry beard is associated with dirty beard. Like 10 hours of mowing and sweating while filling the beard full of dust and grass clippings.
I can understand that!
My firs thought was desert beard or barren beard.
I like it!
If dry is OK, then we don't need to moisturize?
Dry as in your beard on the outside does not feel wet, yes that’s okay. You want to be able to nourish with things like oil though so it doesn’t become brittle
@@DanCBearded OK, I get split ends everywhere which I thought was from a dry beard.

What about ‘balky beard’ or ‘barmy beard’?
Although I do like brittle beard.
I honestly have no idea what either of those adjectives mean lol
Balky- uncooperative…Barmy- crazy
