What kind of beard products is oil or beard butter or beard balm can you recommend for gray beards as you know a great beers are more brittle and softer more easier to tear off
You didnt mention nutrient deficiencies and skin disorder. Not saying your tips arent good but somebody might have a certain type of skin and needs more magnesium or something or b12
Water, water, and oh yeah... water. Not only has increasing my water intake helped with the feel and health of my beard, it has been instrumental in my other health goals...
I restarted my beard journey October 13th, Since then I’ve been making sure I drink plenty of water along with actually being consistent in taking care of my beard. I used to drink a gallon of sweet tea a day since I started drinking a gallon of water instead I can honestly say my beard feels and looks way healthier.
Can't thank you enough, Dan! I picked the products from Dustin and "WOW" what a difference. I've been miserably bearded for the last 2 months and ready to get rid of it. I was doing everything wrong. Thank you for the lessons
Great video as always! One thing that helps me during wintery months is using a humidifier. Winter in Georgia means little to no humidity which drys out my skin and beard. Where’s my Big Mac you promised me?!
Definitely more use of oil amount has helped me out. Dont always just go off of the back of the label saying a dime size amount. Definitely experiment and see what works for you, all beards are Different!
My beard is my hydration meter. Huge noticeable difference when I'm not drinking enough water. Feels bad, doesn't style well, just goes full bird's nest without proper water intake.
I’ve been drinking more water than usual for about a week and just started using beard oil and beard butter 2 days ago and I already noticed a massive difference, I went from a homeless looking beard that is impossible to comb through to a beard that looks nice and hydrated throughout the day and combs with ease. Beard wash and conditioner is on its way
I totally agree with beard butter at night, it feels awesome. However because I sleep on my stomach I have had eye issues due to the beard butter transferring from pillow. So I now just use in the morning after a face wash.
I've got in the habit of every time I use the bathroom when washing my hands I run my comb under the water and run it through the beard. Do this a couple times adds some moisture and helps tighten up any fly aways.
Good information. It is amazing the difference in how my beard feels when I started drinking a gallon of water a day. Another thing that helped me is a cold rinse at the end of my shower.
Satin or silk pillowcases were a game changer for me. I have Afro textured hairs with a big beard that is prone to dryness. The cotton may feel soft on the skin, but it pulls the oils and moisture out of my beard over night. Now? No more split ends.
Great video, thanks. Got a long beard for about 7 years. Best advices I could add: Use conditioner with natural ingredients to wash the beard. Use castor oil in the evening to strengthen the hair. Use a big comb to avoid "overstretching" the hair. And don't put your hands on your beard to play around. Put away that habit.
My beard is about 7 to 8 inches in length. My beard will dry super fast after washing it and getting out of the shower & become frizzy. I use name brand products, recommended by you. I use a heated beard brush. I sometimes use a hairdryer. Keep up the good work & be safe.
During COVID while it was still a killer, I was still a marketer in the medical field, and I was concerned about bringing germs home to my then infant. A doctor told me to put a shot of apple cider vinegar into a standard sized dollar store spray bottle and fill the rest with water and use that as a daily wash every day that I get home. Struck me as more gentle than the pine tar soap, than the Seven Potions, etc. So that became my rinse, pine tar soap or Seven Potions if I need a little stronger, and Nivea Men Deep actually if I need something to dig deeper. Probably not the strength of my game, but so far as daily rinse, I found the apple cider vinegar water spray to be a pretty good light option that I never feel I need conditioner after, beard oil does fine. The others I mentioned make it feel stripped and dried out and need conditioner for me afterwards which for me (again, not the strength of my game) is usually Badass or if I want something lighter, Copper John's though their bottle's dispensing pump is horrendous engineering, I ordered one bottle and the pump didn't work, I ordered a replacement and that soon crapped out too. I did try Bossman and it was just too heavy for my beard.
Tip 2. Usage of beard oil after EVERYSHOWER!! I cannot stress this enough 💯 go directly into the beard hitting the skin, massage in, I comb with wooden comb works perfectly for my beard it’ll spread oil evenly. Dan c, big up you my guy 🤜🏼🤛🏼 love your videos boss.
Hey Jerry, that is awesome!! Love those guys, great people. I would love to get you some products! Are you local? Either way I can get products over to Dustin any time
I'd also add, keep in mind the temperature around you. I just moved from California to Oklahoma, and let me tell you, an Oklahoma winter is a lot harsher on my beard than Cali's ever were! Be sure to increase your oil application(by just a little, you don't have to go crazy)as the weather gets drier. Same thing for water intake and everything else. As your environment starts to dehydrate your body and beard more, make sure to adjust your application/consumption accordingly!
Hey Dan been watching for years. Some feedback, it would be nice to see some beard/beard oil studies in the videos, kind of how Jeff Nippard does with weight lifting.
Oh man, I have tons and tons of videos with peer reviewed journals. That’s kind of my thing lol the difference is there are only so many studies on beards. Something like weight lifting has wayyy more studies because there is more money in that industry and it’s been around longer (US beard products industry started in 2011). But when applicable, I always include studies. Here is just one example: A Beard Growth Oil that Actually Could Work!? I Made It - “Accelerator” ua-cam.com/video/210Q0Duva4k/v-deo.html
I just discovered that beard butter what drying out my beard. I drank lots of water wet my beard, used good quality oils and butters but still nothing, my beard was still dry. One night I skipped the butter and woke up to a super soft and hydrated beard. I think that the butter was preventing the water from being soaked into hair and skin especially since I'm not morning shower person. To me morning shower ppl should use butter at night and night shower ppl should use butter during the day, so far it's worked for me!
Personally, I don't like any products with wax. Never have, feels greasy and sticky for hours afterward, even when using a tiny amount, like a fraction of what you recommend in your butter vids. That turned me off to butter for a long time because they all seemed to have a wax of some sort. I found a product called tallow butter, made by Black Rebel BC and it has zero wax. It's a great product IMO. I also recommend their oils which are 75% ostrich oil in the carrier blend. It is a thicker oil and also has a cloudy appearance but my beard loves it! I do change up the oils I use along with the scents, and so the Black Rebel oil is probably 2-3 times per week. When I first tried it, definitely a dramatic difference in beard feel so a game changer effect for me.
I will say something that was a game changer for me. Why my hair is damp. I use a wood comb why my hair is damp to go through my beard b4 applying oil. Feels like I open the tangle hair. So when the oil gets applied. I feel it applies evenly. Also every 2 weeks I sit my wood comb in pumpkin seed oil.
Thank you Dan for help. I damaged my beard but I will fix it, been bummed out for a couple of days. This and another video this morning made me feel better...take it easy Dan 😎😎😎.
This is a fantastic video, Dan! Lots of great info. My spouse and I live on a farm on the shores of Lake Huron (Canadian side), about 25 min drive from Port Huron, Michigan. For anyone that calls the Great Lakes home, you know how brutally insane the winds that come off the lakes can be, especially this time of year. The air gets sooooooooooo dry! With my current routine, it seems I can only achieve a soft, manageable, comfortable beard for about two to three days out of the week during the winter months (if I'm lucky). I'm definitely going to take your advice and report back in a few weeks. Also, one other tip that I find improves things at home: running a humidifier 24x7 helps with keeping the static down (especially if you are one to use heat when grooming). Thanks again, Dan!
@@DanCBearded yeah, it is super insane wind here tonight as well. I went out to tend to the sheep and goats earlier and today's grooming was instantly out the window haha
I'm 3 hours south of Port Huron. Right now we're getting lake effect weather from either Lake Erie, or Lake Michigan depending on which way the wind blows! Couple that with this week being deer gun season here in Ohio & spending all daylight hours in the woods with this wind I swear I can feel my beard break off with every gust! Not only is the air disgustingly dry, but I don't think folks in warmer climates realize that it's easier to dehydrate in colder temperatures up here than it is in the heat of the summer! We added a humidifier to our furnace last spring. Best move we ever made! Stay warm my friend!
I know in one of your videos you stated that you can’t use bird oil based beard oils frequently as they make your beard too soft. I would say that my graying beard has loved the bird oils. I could never get my beard feeling as soft and nourished with any non-bird oil beard oils. Switching to emu and ostrich oils has been a game changer for me.
I agree its great to hydrate but not around when you eat. You need your stomach acid to do eats job and break down the food you just ate. If you dilute with tons of water it can't optimally do that.
Quality beard oil, as well as beard butter at night, gave me the biggest improvements. I already drink plenty of water and use high quality washes/conditioners. Applying products to a damp beard helps a lot, too. These are all ultra solid suggestions!
I started out 4 years ago with honest Amish beard oil. Since then I have found other brands that I like. The most important thing that I found was to use beard octane CLW. That in itself stops the dry and damaged hairs on my face. Another thing that I do to help is I will use oil after shower wait 30 minutes and put on bearded butter. I do this more often in the winter time because in the winter time it's so dry. The next day I do not need as much oil for my beard. One last thing I would say is to use a proper comb for your beard. If you do not use a comb to get the oil down deep into your skin, you are likely to overdo it with the oil because the oil is on top of your hair and doesn't reach your skin.
I follow all 5 of these steps almost perfectly. The acception is step 1 when it comes to when I drink my water. I find it very difficult to get my water in and by the end of the day I've got a half a gallon to chug before bed! Sometimes I don't take my first drink of my gallon until around dinner time. It's a struggle to remember to drink my water because honestly...I'm just not thirsty! But I'm going to try remember to drink it especially when I'm eating so that it will keep my mind on it the very first time I eat breakfast.
Awesome video, when I find my beard is dry I usually add a Leave in Conditioner to my nighttime oil/butter routine and that usually fixes things and most of the time I only have to do it once a week if that.
@@DanCBearded 4 numerals are appended to my name, which have never been there. This looks to be true for nearly all. Searching, I found only unfounded speculation. Do you know anything about this?
I use my Wife's Biolage hair products. I know he said your beard hair is different but, this hair product is not any ordinary hair product. It makes my beard move as I do, I don't have to use much oils or butter I just use a little balm to hold my beard down a little just to style, smells great. It is pretty expensive but it last a long time
Can confirm. Staying hydrated is great overall and you'll see it in the beard. The right products. I get it but some of the products last longer than the cheap stuff you'll end up throwing away. You want good beard oil and butters not that greasy watery mix it feels nasty on your hands. Like taking olive oil and rubbing it in your beard lol
Thanks Dan great video I've been drinking water since if been growing out my beard my beard feels so nourished and healthy all 5 steps I do on a daily basis.
Great advice! Wanted to add my two cents as someone who suffers from psoriasis ( extremely dry skin). For anyone who implements these tips but still struggle with dryness, try adding some butter to your routine in the afternoon as well as at night. I found a full rinse before bed and nighttime butter really helps as well.
Great video! I've also found that depending on the condition of my beard, switching up my conditioner in the shower can help get me back on track. I've considered an occasional leave-in conditioner as well.
In the summer time I work outside. I sweat like crazy!! Should I wash more with beard wash then ? or still one time a week. I install playground, so I'm always around dust and dirt and like I said, I sweat like crazy. I extremely enjoyed this video. I never realized what it took to grow a healthy beard. Thank you bud. I've subscribe to your page only a short while, and it has made a world of difference with your advice!!
Dan, great job putting this video together. I know you cover much of this in other videos, which I have watched. This really captured an amazing amount of information, in an easy to consume timeframe and format.
Great video Dan. Water makes a huge difference in the feel of my beard. I can tell when I have not had enough water. All great tips that everyone should have in their routine
After a shower, I dry with towel a bit, then put in beardoil, and then dry with blowdryer.. while combing it down. But after that my beard is always dry as *%#*! No matter what I do first; wash, condition, different oil, lower heath, etc.. My beard is half the length yours is. Please help!! 😮
Possibilities: 1) not using enough oil 2) using the wrong oil for you 3) using too much heat 4) just a misunderstanding of what dry is [should be near dry to the touch but not brittle feeling] 5) you are not drinking enough water Could be any or none of those
Interesting that you mention daily gentle washes. Could you point out to a few quality ones that can be acquired in Europe? It's fine if they are American products, as long as they can be easily ordered from Europe. Could you share some safe bets for us to look into please? Many thanks.
Hey Trusted teacher, thanks for everything you do, much appreciated 👍👊. I have changed my routine for about the last month or so, one gallon of water daily has made a big difference in my beard and also I have recently been using Detroit Grooming Company Corktown beard butter in my grooming, the butter IS in a league of their own, great stuff and I wish I would have used it earlier, all I can say about their butter is "wow", amazing stuff. That has been a big game changer with my long white beard. Again, thanks for everything you do brother🙏👍.
Great tips, and great video as always! It might not necessarily help with dryness but more overall look and feel is fairly regular maintenance/trimming. Cut off those split ends and keep the beard looking and feeling great.
So that wouldn’t change much from my normal routine videos and product to use would be very relative to each beard. Checkout my very recent video about thick vs thin oils. It covers much of that
So i have to drink more water now and look what my beard soap and oil are made of. Here in Finland we dont have meny options. So i hope i find a shop from states ho can send me a good stuff. Sorry about my english if i write someting wrong
You are what you consume...that applies to actual food and water as well... your body is around 70 percent water... and if you're not replacing the water you loose regularly... then your body is going to suffer because of it... both physically and mentally... water is 🔑 ....
Great video, my water intake has improved my beard a lot, it was trial and error before I got my oil ratio down, I'm a fan of a spray bottle to get my beard damp, I can tell if don't use beard butter at night. All your tips has drastically improved my beard.
Great video as always Dan For the water intake, I agree 100%. Even though this is my weaker area, I still have noticed drastic differences in my beard and body health. My goal is to constantly drink 80oz a day. For the beard butter tip, I 100% agree. My beard feels amazing and soft after I wake up in the afternoon (I work graveyard shift lol). When I comb through it, the comb goes through like butter (pun intended lol). For the beard oil amount, I can attest to your beard feeling oily if you use too much. When I first started using oil daily, I was using too much, and I could easily wipe off excess oil of my beard. For the beard wash, I also agree with what you mentioned. The only thing I'd add to your tip is if you work out and sweat every day, make sure to wash your beard after, I personally use a daily gentle wash then once a week I hit my beard with a nice stripping wash before work (Usually on my Monday).
Where would you rate beard lotion? I of course did the beginner mistake and not intake nowhere near enough water and for that my skin underneath my face hair was dry/itchy and flaky. I've since been drinking more water and also have been applying beard+face lotion to help remedy the dryness of my skin. I've massaged the lotion into my beard just so it makes contact with my skin. Thanks for the awesome beard advice btw!
Dan, I’ve been growing my beard out for 7 months now and never released I need to take care of it like this. It’s 1-2 inches now. Watching your video has me thinking would it be best to cut it all of an start over with the proper knowledge or keep what I have now and just use what I learned in this video to take better care of it? As a young man this is my first ever beard and I’m not quite sure what I should do. Thank you.
Hey man, happy to help. If there is damage you can see or feel (split ends for example), then trim or buzz short and grow from there. Do not shave though
The water is a problem with me I just do not like water it's been a battle for me to drink enough but.... I know the beard / skin needs water I get it but wow I am having a hard time with it
No right or wrong answer. “Double washing” in the shower is perfectly fine, especially if you feel the first wash isn’t getting it done. It’s all about personal variables

Awesome!
That is awesome! Thanks for the feedback
I use classic grooming hydration mist when I’m at home
I haven’t tried that yet
@@DanCBearded a review I’ll be waiting on
I follow all 5 of these steps almost perfectly.
You are the man!!
Awesome video, when I find my beard is dry I usually add a Leave in Conditioner to my nighttime oil/butter routine and that usually fixes things and most of the time I only have to do it once a week if that.
That’s great Kwan!
Easily one of your best videos.
Thank you Leo!! I hope it helps some
@@DanCBearded 4 numerals are appended to my name, which have never been there. This looks to be true for nearly all. Searching, I found only unfounded speculation. Do you know anything about this?
@@leosigman7239 I have no idea! I don’t actually see anything. Could be because I’m on my phone
I use my Wife's Biolage hair products. I know he said your beard hair is different but, this hair product is not any ordinary hair product. It makes my beard move as I do, I don't have to use much oils or butter I just use a little balm to hold my beard down a little just to style, smells great. It is pretty expensive but it last a long time
If it is working for you, that's awesome Anthony
Great video as always Dan 👍 I agree that beard butter at night is a huge game changer! The difference in my beard using beard butter is significant.
Such a nice difference!
Boom! Thanks for sharing
Thanks Dan great video I've been drinking water since if been growing out my beard my beard feels so nourished and healthy all 5 steps I do on a daily basis.
Let's gooo!
Absolutely confirmed drinking water helps.
Awesome to hear!
Thanks Tj!
Stay hydrated 🤜
The MOST important!
Thanks Dan, great info as always! It is crazy how important staying properly hydrated for my beard to feel good and healthy.
It really makes all the difference in the world!
Great video! I've also found that depending on the condition of my beard, switching up my conditioner in the shower can help get me back on track. I've considered an occasional leave-in conditioner as well.
That’s a great one! Agreed
If you sweat, I would wash. Even if that is daily. Just be sure to get a good daily/gentle wash.
Digi Hug Brother.... Thank you so much....

Tip 3 did it for me. Awesome channel. Subscribed!
Awesome man, welcome to the channel!
Dan, great job putting this video together. I know you cover much of this in other videos, which I have watched. This really captured an amazing amount of information, in an easy to consume timeframe and format.
Thank you Alan! That means a lot to me
Great video Dan. Water makes a huge difference in the feel of my beard. I can tell when I have not had enough water. All great tips that everyone should have in their routine
Such a big difference!
A good classic no problem reasonable price beard oil you can find everywhere that I like... honest Amish
Absolutely!
Thanks!
Thank you for the super thanks! You are absolutely welcome
Some Very good tips and great video Dan C 👍😎👊
Thanks!
Possibilities:
1) not using enough oil
2) using the wrong oil for you
3) using too much heat
4) just a misunderstanding of what dry is [should be near dry to the touch but not brittle feeling]
5) you are not drinking enough water
Could be any or none of those
Interesting that you mention daily gentle washes. Could you point out to a few quality ones that can be acquired in Europe? It's fine if they are American products, as long as they can be easily ordered from Europe. Could you share some safe bets for us to look into please? Many thanks.
The best I have used from. Europe is seven potions
Man that’s awesome to hear Kevin!!
Great tips, and great video as always! It might not necessarily help with dryness but more overall look and feel is fairly regular maintenance/trimming. Cut off those split ends and keep the beard looking and feeling great.
No doubt! Split ends have to go
Can we get a daily routine and product/brand to use specific video for dry beard?
So that wouldn’t change much from my normal routine videos and product to use would be very relative to each beard. Checkout my very recent video about thick vs thin oils. It covers much of that
@@DanCBearded appreciate the reply, I will check it out!
So i have to drink more water now and look what my beard soap and oil are made of. Here in Finland we dont have meny options. So i hope i find a shop from states ho can send me a good stuff. Sorry about my english if i write someting wrong
See if you can get seven potions over there. They are from London
I will loje fore it. Thanks Dan
I’m terrible with the water intake i dont drink a glass a month im hooked on pepsi and i know it’s bad
Small steps to break it! try limiting yourself to a set amount a day. Then start taking days off
Great video Dan. I have noticed that drinking additional protein drinks makes a difference with my beard along with a good multivitamin
Agreed fully!
You are what you consume...that applies to actual food and water as well... your body is around 70 percent water... and if you're not replacing the water you loose regularly... then your body is going to suffer because of it... both physically and mentally... water is 🔑 ....
Soooo very true!
Great video, my water intake has improved my beard a lot, it was trial and error before I got my oil ratio down, I'm a fan of a spray bottle to get my beard damp, I can tell if don't use beard butter at night. All your tips has drastically improved my beard.
That’s great shade!
Great video as always Dan
For the water intake, I agree 100%.
You’re the man Paul! Thank you for all the feedback and taking the time to leave it
@@DanCBearded Of course, no problem. If my experience can help one beardsmen, I'm happy :)
Why adjust the quantity of beard oil depending on how long your beard is when beard oil is to hydrate the skin?
It’s not though, it’s for both. Here is a recent video explaining. Be sure to read through the comments too: ua-cam.com/video/v5sit_nW7U4/v-deo.html
It’s so difficult to drink water in the cold weather 😣.
Oh I loveee water! Bur you got this!
You know a beard oil product for sensitive skin without breaking out?
The company below was created because the owner has VERY sensitive skin.

Ive gotten burning sometimes b4 from fable
Oh interesting
It was only a handful of times out of 5 bottles
It can itch from having too much oil in
Yes, absolutely
Where would you rate beard lotion? I of course did the beginner mistake and not intake nowhere near enough water and for that my skin underneath my face hair was dry/itchy and flaky. I've since been drinking more water and also have been applying beard+face lotion to help remedy the dryness of my skin. I've massaged the lotion into my beard just so it makes contact with my skin.
Thanks for the awesome beard advice btw!
I do not recommend beard lotion to anyone. Not good for the hair or skin, in my opinion, experience, and research.
@ how short should I trim it? What do you suggest. Thank you for answering!
Trim off all the damage. However short that may be
Awesome video. 😊
Thank you! Cheers!
Great video! Wild hat too!
Thanks!! Love this honest Amish hat lol
Awesome video Dan! 💯
Thanks!
The water is a problem with me I just do not like water it's been a battle for me to drink enough but.... I know the beard / skin needs water I get it but wow I am having a hard time with it
Just has to become part of your routine in the day!
@@DanCBearded yup it does
@Dan C Bearded - Thanks again for all the useful content! Quick question, is "Every Man Jack Beard + Face Wash" a stripping wash or a daily wash?
Very stripping!
What products do you suggest for people that want to grow out their mustache are there any specific products for that
Same stuff! Beard oil and beard wash
well, now I have a question...
some say wash your beard once...I wash it twice...because it feels better....so do I wash once or twice when in shower
No right or wrong answer. “Double washing” in the shower is perfectly fine, especially if you feel the first wash isn’t getting it done.
It’s all about personal variables
