In this video, director Luca Guadagnino and co-stars Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer reveal the meaning behind the film Call Me by Your Name.
"It's the summer of 1983, and precocious 17-year-old Elio Perlman is spending the days with his family at their 17th-century villa in Lombardy, Italy. He soon meets Oliver, a handsome doctoral student who's working as an intern for Elio's father. Amid the sun-drenched splendor of their surroundings, Elio and Oliver discover the heady beauty of awakening desire over the course of a summer that will alter their lives forever."

I watched this movie after it got nominated for the oscar and it was a life changing experience .
I remember watching it alone during a Saturday at 1 am. It was beautiful and a very intimate experience. I'm glad I was alone because it allow me to become vulnerable and take that journey with the characters.

I am a straight male and never thought I would watch a film like this. But I had heard nothing but great things about this movie so, being a lover of cinema, I finally watched it for the first time tonight. I am awestruck. This movie just GETS what infatuation and strong romance FEELS like, in film form. Everything from the direction, the performances, the cinematography, the musical score, the sounds of nature in the countryside, this movie just feels so dreamlike and yet, everything feels so real. So raw. So powerful. This movie just highlights how low effort most of the romance films are today. It’s been hours since the end credits rolled and I’m STILL thinking about this film. Bravo to all involved in getting this film to the cinemas.

This movie changed how I see the world. It opened up a whole new kind of beauty for me and really made me pay attention to little things and feel in the moment. Instead of looking at rain or trees as an every day thing, this movie helped me find the beauty in small things in life

I just watched this movie and it was amazing I really can't believe I avoided it for so long now I have no one to talk about it with but it was earth shattering or in this case heart shattering. I just really need that happy ending because it is weighing down my heart 😩

@@vimini5378 it really breaks your heart. I read the book afterwards that kinda helped but Elio does ultimately get his heart broken in both versions of the story sadly.
There's a second book by the author called 'Find Me' and I highly recommend it to mend your vroken heart a little :-)
The happy ending is that Elio gets through the pain and regains a strong sense of self. We think our first love is the be-all and end-all, until we can gain perspective over time.
Never found a true love or anything significant, but somehow can still relate to the characters
This film and others that followed have taught me that life is full of unique situations when it comes to love. All you need to do is trust your heart and be brave enough to consider any and all possibilities. When you lose the labels, anything is possible as long as you are open to it.
The personality of Elios Mother is so charming and wise. Her presence in the movie is unforgetable.
Thank you so much for making this. I couldn't express the feelings I have for this movie, it has changed my entire being and life completely, everything I feel is now because and to do with them. Some of these quotes from the makers of the film in this are so beautiful, and Luca explained it perfectly, about the sensuality, the desire and pure love one feels for another.

Timothy… so so beautiful in this movie, I was just captivated by his acting
THIS IS A GREAT Film. Take away the relationship between two guys, the whole scope of this beautiful film in more ways than one, captures the essence, and map of the human heart I Love Director Luca D's work, especially this film, shot in his hometown, Luca he sure keeps it real and natural, if this was a story between two women, / straight couple, it will still stand out, for its simplicity in conveying the story. this is the beauty, of a foreign director, instead of an American director, (American directors seem to go over the top as they do in most American flicks) my favorite scene in the flick, Elio with his mum and dad, and with dad, at the end, is just heartwarming and beautiful!

Such a beautiful beautiful film that just breaks my heart. I want to just crawl into their summer romance and live in that time capsule with them forever.
This is an exquisite film that borders on the sublime. I was transported to my own struggles with my sexuality at that same age! I also dabbled, as an unknowing boy, with girls so as to “fit in” with my peers. I almost developed “homophobia” as a protection. Meanwhile, I also developed a devastating crush on a beautiful man whom I almost allowed to give myself up to him only to be crushed when he wanted a three way with his “boyfriend”! I was barely ready for a “one some”! I still suffer from the experience and believe it has tainted my relationships since. Obviously I fell in love, the beautiful man didn’t! At that age it’s difficult to know what is what! I feel Elio will also “move on” into adulthood with that missing piece in his heart; the final chapters of the book give the clue. To paraphrase part of the father’s beautiful speech “…(we hope) we land on our feet! It makes me sad when people don’t like the film, I think there is so much truth to developing youth. Yes, the film is slow, at time, but I believe it’s on purpose to give the viewer time to think, digest and enjoy what is happening! Elio’s final look into the cámara, as if acknowledging us beyond it, is saying…

This movie made me homosexual. ❤❤❤
Idk but as a gay man. This movie feels way to much like a parody. Like a teen boy dreamed this. Blue is the warmest color to me was more intense in sense of emotions. I would argue if you cut ALL the sex scenes in Blue is the warmest color it would still be a great movie.
This movie was just bad (bad charackter development- none actually, inconsistancies in charackter potrayal of Elio(overly narcissistic and seductive, not too respectful to his parents!, hurts his friend) and Oliver (manipulative!)).It is an unhealthy/ toxic summer fling story but definitely NOT a love story.Oliver and Elio have nothing to talk about except having sex. Relationship of Elio and his parents are unrealistic as for the 80's.The theme of the story maybe had potential but book and the movie portray just extremely flat charackers who beheave like dumb asses. If a better author wrote it( apparently Aciman is NOT a good one) , maybe it could be better. Some people say they cry at the end - to me the little spoiled brat got what he deserved. The only movie i can cry on is "Dancer in the dark" and cry to Bjork/ Thom Yorke soundtrack but not this.... If someone like gay love stories there is always "Moonlight" and "Maurice"
elio is a teenager, all of those traits you listed seems like standard teenager behavior. i think you just don’t understand his character. “little spoiled brat” i definitely would not describe him as that. i agree, it wasnt a love story. oliver basically played with him and left. it was infatuation, a summer fling as you said. but i cannot say the movie isnt good, the shots, the conversations. you seem very hypercritical.
@@allister8431 not hypercritical but i didn't like the idea of women being treated as sh*t in the movie. Elio ( i know he was teenager) but he had no respect for anyone, just for himself ( the way he treated his best friend). Some teenagers are actually very well mannered but not Elio. The movie is marketed as love story where in reality is far away from it ( a user story so to say). Characters are in generall very shallow and dialogues weak and on the surface.That's how I see it. The cinematography and acting are good but that's all about it.
@@ultron374 i didnt think him and marzia were friends since they had sex and the “am i your girl?” conversation. he did treat her bad. he did not care about her feelings, i agree. she could never give him what oliver could in his mind. i really think he wouldve of done that if he didnt have feelings for oliver, just a feeling. but i also think he tried to hide he was wearing olivers shirt in the “am i your girl?” conversation. i actually like the dialogue in most parts but also dialogue isnt just what is said. body language and facial expressions, both apart of the conversation. the world war 2 statue conversation, the fathers advice at the end, and elio, and his moms conversation of him liking Oliver were the best. what do u think?
@@allister8431 u see, the characters are so underdeveloped that is difficult to see if they are friends or not or what they are. In the scene where they talk next to statue..well they speak unreastically as from encyclopedia ( i wondered how Oliver figured out what Elio wanted to say because except Elio, Oliver wouldn't have a clue) In the scene where Marzia ask him, Elio totally beheaves like a coward, even doesn't aplogise and at the end the father states that it was beautiful whatever they had but...it was pretty much toxic relationship where he didn't ask if his son feel used. So many plot issues there, many logical ones. Logic was a major issue
@@ultron374 what I don’t understand is why do bad traits make for a bad film? Like others stated he is a spoiled teenage boy that is his character. And he lived up to the immature role perfectly. He reminds me of some I’ve met before. If he was morally perfect or instantly had a huge moral development that would’ve been a flawed movie.
