Geometry Nodes UV Retopology Demonstration

  • A demonstration of the Blender 4.0 Geometry Nodes UV Retopology workflow from the last two videos. If you thought "That looks cool, but how should using these tools actually look?" then watch this. Several people wanted a full example, so I've used it to retopo this shirt. Its a good example because different sections have a variety of different shapes, but the final topology also isn't super critical. If you're experienced with Retopo already, you can probably skip this one as its mostly demonstration + commentary.

    I'm also using MD -> Blender workflow. I never done retopology before, I'm still learning. Is there any more simplier way for doing all of this? Even if this is imply using another software (paid or free). I'm searching for more faster and friendly way of doing retopology.

      MD has its own retopo tools that you can use before you export. Depending on what you need, that should do most of it.

    really hope to see your mesh binding ideas recorded, there used to be a single video here on youtube that went a bit into the topic but only covered the very basics, and later on disappeared for some reason

      Doing Surface Deform style stuff with Geonodes is really simple actually, so shouldn't be a problem. And can get around the Bind issues with the modifier too. I do most of my clothing rigging with geonodes now.

    curious why we got "dirty" meshes in the first place? did it start as a 3D scan? or a result of some booleans?

      It started as a Marvelous Designer mesh. That uses auto quad remesh to convert triangle fill with consistent vert spacing to quads.

      Yes, there's lots of room to improve this with a bit of python.
