    Hello from Greece...
I really don't understand (even for a tourist guide like the video author), why you guys think that Santorini is "the ultimate place" to visit in Greece!!! No, seriously, why? The ONLY unique thing about Santorini is that is a volcano island (half of that was sunk into the abyse, during the ancient volcano's explosion) and the nice "leggo-like" placing of the building on the rocks. That's it, nothing else!!! Even that so notorious "Santorini sunset"... well, you can watch and enjoy it in ALL the around islands as well, it's the same lovely sunset! Santorini has probably THE MOST UGLIEST beaches to go, they are totaly black (volcano soil) and SUPER DEEP from 1m of the shore - we're talking for ABYSE, not "just deep"! The prices are SUPER EXPENSIVE even if you visit Santorini during... December!!! So... really... I don't understand why you keep talking about Santorini!!! To me, Santorini is a nice island to SUPER-FAST visit it during a weekend - and that's it, you'll see all Santorini can give you in 48 hrs!
Mykonos... Another SUPER "overpriced" Greek island. Yes, it has nice beaches, no doupt... and that's it, nothing else. Mykonos is totaly "naked", you'll find only small short bushes and few short trees here and there, it's a NAKED ROCK. If you visit Mykonos during summer, have handy all the time a... portable aircontision & a fridge, because you'll suffer from the super heat and you'll lost your body liquid from the endless sweating! Not mention, Mykonos is probably THE MOST EXPENSIVE PLACE to visit in Greece, since it's an "ARAB EMIR PARADISE" for the super billionaire petrol-dollar emirs! In Mykonos, you'll see mostly Arab emirs and endless half-naked "escords" (whores) trying to find a rich client!
Crete... That's an amazing place, no doupt. One of the very best places you can visit in Greece, but... you'll need 6 summers to enjoy Crete - or 3 summers if your vecations are over 25 days per season!!!! Why? Because Crete is HUGE!!! Yes, it's an... "island" alright, but it's large as like ...Peloponesse!!! It has 3 large prefectures and you need to KEEP DRIVING ENDLESS all day long, to go from that place to the other; extremelly too hard for the driver, since there are very poor and bad roads, with endless turns, and you loosing half day to visit a place...
Now... WHICH PLACES I would recomend for all of you foreigners, that you love Greece and want to come visit the country? It depence. I'll devide them to 3 different groups; those very close to Athens, those are "regular far" from Athens & those they are REALLY FAR from the capitol.
    Nearby Athens' islands
    -------------------------------------
Most foreigners don't know there are "paradises" nearby Athens. Let's find some of theme:
    1. Tolo (a small fishing village nearby Athens)
    2. Nafplio (the 1st capitol of Greek State, in Peloponesse)
    3. New Styra (a fishing village in Euboea)
    4. Galaxidi
    5. Mani (the modern Laconia, the land of ancient Spartans!)
    6. Scorpios island (a small tiny paradise, 45 minutes away from Pireaus' port!)
    7. Agistri island (similar to the previous one)
    8. Gia island (similar to the previous one)
    9. Kithnos island (a bit further away, an amazing small island)
    10. Nafpaktos (not an island, but with amazing beaches - very nearby Athens)
Best top-10 islands to visit in Greece
    -----------------------------------------------------------
    1. Mylos (of course!)
    2. Amorgos ("Le Grande Bleu" film - no further comments!)
    3. Alonnisos (speechless)
    4. Ikaria (amazing island, fantastic "lunatic" locals, endless folklore parties!)
    5. Ithaca (Homer Odysseus' small kingdom)
    6. Kefalonia (nearby of Ithaca)
    7. Karpathos
    8. Koufonisia
    9. Paxoi & Antipaxoi (breathless beauty!)
    10. Kythira (incredible)
Best places you need serious time to spend and visit them
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    1. Crete (one of the MOST AMAZING places in Greece)
    2. Chalkidiki (all three peninsula's "legs")
    3. Epirus (quite far, but amazing place to go)
    4. Samothraki island (amazing island, quite far to the north-east)
    5. Anafi island
    6. Karpathos island
    7. Lesvos island
    8. Folegadros island
    9. Ios island
    10. Sikinos island
I just gave you probably the BEST places to visit Greece during summer; of course, if you come to enjoy Greece country and don't care too much for beaches and water, the above lists are totally different!!! There are SOOOO MANY amazing places to visit the MAIN LAND of Greece, highland places, ancient sites, etc...

Going to Greece in May with my fiancé and your videos have been a huge help! Staying 3 nights in Athens (in the Psyri neighborhood), then spending 5 nights on Antiparos, and then 5 nights on Milos. Hope you keep posting so we can learn more before our trip!

Thanks for you your videos, Sebastian!!! Your very detailed videos have been great help to our planning ❤️ Just returned from 10-day stay in Athens (2 in Santorini). Went early to mid Nov. I agree it's also a perfect time to visit (rain can be a risk but we got lucky, we had perfect weather!). Less crowd and great temp at 60s to low 70s. Lots of places to go to and eat around Plaka. Museums less crowd discounted too. We stayed in Oia and 60-70% stores are still open. Rented a car for $69 for 2 days, nice experience. Beach was empty tho but it's ok for us coz we got to enjoy Fira and Oia, nice weather and less crowded. Thanks again!!!!

I can tell you that Orthodox Easter season is NOT a good time. Ferries and flights are scarce compare to low season and full. All tourist attractions are closed on Easter Day. And it is even worse this year as they decided that May 1st will be postponed to May 7th, as all tourist attractions will be closed May 5th and May 7th and there will likely be a transportation strike on May 7th (and who knows, perhaps May 1st too). I decided to come shoulder season to have a relax and easy trip and it just gives me big headaches.

Visited Ελλάδα in the middle two weeks of May. Every day was sunny except the day we went to the Acropolis…cloudy all day. Spent 4 days in Athens (met my cousin Dimitri’s and his family), 3 days in Santorini’s, and 6 days in Crete (3 days in Rethimno and 3 in Heraklion). Speaking the language helps. Να στε καλα! 🇬🇷🇺🇸

As long as you carry the toddler yourself and you leave the stroller at the hotel, you'll be fine.

I've been binge-watching your videos these last few days, they're really informative! Any chance you could make a video about solo travelling in Greece, particularly in Athens? I'm going on my first solo trip soon and I chose Athens as my destination as Greece is my favourite country in the world ❤️

As long as you stay away from the Omonia neighborhood you'll be fine.
Plaka, Monastiraki, Syntagma, Psyri : these are all very safe neighborhoods, even at night :-)

I'll be coming to Santorini and Athens on Jan 2024 during off season. I like this weather rather than hot summerly weather 🥵 and hate overcrowded touristy season. Btw, I'm from country that is always on the summer time all year round in between average daily temperature of 32°C to 35°C during the day 😅

When I think of a trip to Greece, I feel very confused. I am more interested in the mainland and wish to see cultural/historic sights. What is the train system like? Can you get to places like Meteora and Ioannina by train or is bus better? I don't drive and I feel this might hamper a trip to Greece where I feel public transit isn't on the level as in Italy or Spain.

    • @GreeceExplained
      @GreeceExplained  6 місяців тому

Public transit is very poor in Greece. That's why everyone who wants to do what you have in mind RENTS A CAR for this. No other option really
