Beautiful baby Kayembe and his adoptive mother Fredricka. Such a happy moment.
Baby gorillas are so tiny when they're born. Their 4 or 5 lbs. seems so little for the big, powerful animal they'll grow to be. Gorilla moms are so gentle and wonderful with their babies. This is such a sweet video.

I never realized just how extremely tiny a newborn gorilla truly is. You can feel that special loving bond between momma and baby just by seeing how she takes care and protect him. Congratulations Momma gorilla!❤️🦍❤️

And sadly (i work with gorillas), that baby born in total captivity will end up like is mom on antidepressant around 3 y.o. He is cute but there is a reason why gorillas dont breed in captivity... They are miserable. Captivity breeding shouldnt happen for a spiecie that we now can control into the wild.

@@JeanEDeaux sadly yes.... not just gorillas but to many other spicies. Mostly the more "intelligent one" like elephants, orcas, Dolphins... Primates and wild animals search for food all Day around km and km of natural habitac. They eat, reproduce and form complexe social structures. All that they cant do in captivity. No food choice no reproduction even if they are not all sterilized. They cant even choose who is part of their group.
You see pretty ive seen ugly... gorillas fighting... even death of animals by agressions that wouldnt exist in the wild. At night when the zoo close and most animals are reduce to a prison cell, caged and sedated so they sont cause to much troubles.
Zoos have to change...

His biological mother actually rejected him from birth, & another 45yr old female in the pack (momma Freddy I believe) took him on as her own from day 1. Netflix has a livestream of them now! He's almost 2, & there's a new 6wk old baby girl too 😍

If you'd like to check it out, most zoo's now have cameras in many of the enclosures with animals who have had a baby recently. The zoo's individual website should allow you to access the enclosure cameras and sometimes you may even be able to catch the birth. They are not recordings but real time. They allow the public to watch and track the little ones progression as they grow and learn new things. It's also fun to watch the animals any time. Last winter the Smithsonian National Zoo had gotten snow and the giant pandas had cameras in their outdoor enclosure and they were having such a fun time! They had a hill and the cold made the snow ice and the panda bears were sliding down the hill, they'd run into each other and you could tell it was something new they had never done before. But normally they will put things the keepers have come up with for different enrichment activities to keep the animals thinking and using different natural instincts. It also keeps the animals busy so that they don't come up with different ways to rip their outdoor enclosures apart. Like they say about kids ....... there isn't anything good about a quiet animal. If they are quiet chances are they've gotten into something that is trouble. They are sorta like inmates in a prison (especially the different species of primates), they have 20+ hours, all the time in the world to think about how to destroy something or think of an escape plan! When they are bored they ALWAYS find someway to occupy themselves! Even if that mean a bear tearing a concrete plug from the bottom of the enclosures water pool or up rooting the trees that are in the enclosure.
A small otter will be fascinated by shiny little things including a nut or bolt holding the tank together with the decking and they have all the time in the world to play with it, bite it, and then they don't know any better and they take the nut off the screw. Then when it falls to the bottom of their tank they will start to play and work at the next one because again it's nice an shiny!
But just like the zoo employees and the keepers who care for the animals daily will sit and have baby watches they are looking at a screen and a live feed just as you can at home. The keepers do the least amount of work they can and NOT interfere with mom while she is in the process of delivering her baby. IF and it's so rare for something to happen and if it does that is when the keepers and vet staff decide to step in or not. They'd prefer if the animal went with the motherly instincts they have and deliver then start to clean and care for their babies. It's amazing to see and it's astonishing to see a first time mom deliver her baby alone, by herself, and she delivers as if she has done it one hundred times before.
But the enclosure cameras are so fun to watch. Sometimes it's a bit old and boring with the same ol' stuff being shown but they will try to divide up the animal enclosures that way they are in control and they can change the enclosures to the outdoor enclosures or even to switch the animals up so if people are following them they can see the variety of different animals and the different behaviors the animals do, most being the body movements that are very suttle its hard to see them. A macaque and some other primates will make a noise that their baby hears and knows that it's their mom calling for them and then if mom turns around and she will lift a back foot up gently and slow with her foot being parallel to the ground that is her telling her baby that she is getting ready to walk and that the baby runs up to catch her and mom lifts the baby up to hold on to her chest or the baby will have to jump and take a flying leap attempting to grab hold of the hair on her back pulling themselves up as if mom was giving piggy back rides.

I saw mom with him on her back, but is that dad that was actually in that 3rd scene with him up on his back? That looked like dad doing that. Wow! Amazing. Baby is in good hands. Mom and dad are great parents.💕
I’ve heard that dads are not interacting with baby gorillas until the baby is about one to one and a half years old, so that’s most likely still his mom
@@DJ-nk4dqPlease google your response. Moms do the most nurturing but dad acts as the protector. he also plays with the baby. Gorilla babies need love and attention from both parents just as human babies do.

@@dannagraves7131 Zoos are in it for the money. A new infant will attract a lot more visitors and revenue to the park. Unless they have an indoor glass enclosure where visitors could see the baby when it gets cold, they will be forced to go outside for at least a few hours each day. Some zoos provide their animals with heating lamps, hope this one does too.

@@joycerosier9660 The zoo is located in Cleveland, Ohio. Don't know the layout personally, since I've never been there. What I've seen online is a structure that includes both fiberglass and open structure. I also saw a small open cave like opening that wouldn't provide much warmth unless they all huddle up inside. I did by the way see an enclosure for the visitors to remain nice and warm while gawking at the gorillas.
The zoo has received good reviews in the past, and they do have a program that provides healthy meals for the prevention of heart disease. Let's just keep a positive thought for them, as well as our fingers crossed.
