I heard an expert explain the importance of rough housing and it was pretty fascinating. Even the part where they get hurt and cry is important. They're learning limits. You're learning empathy by knowing what's painful to other people. Even falling out of trees is important. You fall out of the tree when you're a kid so you don't fall off the mountain when you're an adult.

The thing he did with the arm is something male silverbacks do when they are setting a boundary. He probably thought they were playing too rough and wanted them to stay separate. The arm is supposed to be an invisible line, and the boy didnt listen and walked past anyway, so he pushed him back down. The video about the spy baby gorilla robot explains the arm gesture.
