    For anyone having issues with scale or scattering objects incorrectly, Mash is designed to be used in centimeters, delete history and freeze transforms your meshes. Switch to cm under:
    windows > settings/preferences > preferences > settings > working units > cm
    Close your maya and re-open it.
    I ran into this issue when I was working with landscapes and using real-world scale within my scene. Hope it can help someone! :D

      The only thing I'm having trouble understanding at the moment is how your ground plane's divisions increased after you added the hole/burrow (before adding the tree). I tried increasing divisions after sculpting and it freaks out and looks like garbage.

    • @AlexCheparev
      @AlexCheparev  8 років тому

      You need to subdivide. Go to the Mesh menu and select Smooth.

    I love this tutorial. I refer back to it all the time. Please can you explain the importance of freezing the transformations before you make the mash network? sometimes when one creates the network, MASH throws the referenced geometry all over the place. This happens when the mesh or meshes one tries to create the mash network from are not frozen prier to creating the network. Right? *fart*

    Is there a way to use a random Color from texture based on the UV's? (like grass texture on grid To grass vertex color?)

    Is there any way to scatter different objects by percentages or even actual number counts under 1 mash system? Using the objectID node let's me scatter more objects but they are in even amounts, I would like to scatter 20% some 50% others etc. Xgen and standard particle Instancing can do this but I figured mash has to have a way also.

    I love this tutorial (all Alex tutorials really) but no matter what I do I get a clump of 4 grass blades. Not one grass blade which I then add ID and then get 4. I get the clump right off the bat.What am I doing wrong? I make one blade.. duplicate it. Model so I have 4 different blades. Center all at the origin. Freeze transformations so I have a clump. Group (Control G right?). I click on the group, add the MASH network......and I see the whole group of 4....in a row....not just one blade. If anyone has time to answer, it would be great! Thank you so much!!!

    • @AlexCheparev
      @AlexCheparev  8 років тому +1

      Thanks. Make sure to select the grass blades within the group, not the group itself.

    my maya says No paintable surfaces found.
    and I don't see the color attribute as something paintable on by grid object, anything I'm missing?

      same issue with the sample mesh for UV at 17:07, had an issue where there were shape nodes with the same name that conflicted being hooked up into the mash network. so I had to change the names before I could access the mesh UV
