I started University, doing a filming course and although we don't use maya on our course, I still wanted to learn it. Despite having no idea on what to do and press, thanks to your tut i can now create little wavy things. thanks! :)
Thank you. Absolutely wonderful. I have been a tutorial addict for 20 years and this is the best I have ever watched. Straight to the point, no waffle, complete details, and a really good finished project. I would definitely pay for further tutorials from you (Gumroad?).
Hi Colin, Thank you so much for your feedback! I am overwhelmed by the positive feedback and your comment totally made it worth the hours put into creating it. That is a good idea about Gumroad, I will definately consider that in the future. I am trying to come up with some ideas for a few new tutorials at the moment so hopefully there will be some more on my channel soom :)
FantastiC very thankful upon you mam and yours medical bacterial microorganism modelling tutorial & animation it's quite useful for medical ad making .. as myself Rony an animation CG & VFX student from INDIA
Thanks for the good tutorial! :) Long enough and straight to the point. Just one tip: don't render the DOF from Arnold, it's actually a lot faster to create a zdepth render pass and then add the DOF in post production (photoshop, nuke..). Good luck and keep up with those tutorials! :)
+Valerio Viperino thanks for the tip! Yeah I usually do zdepth in mental ray but haven't got round to trying it out properly in Arnold with AOVs, still need to sit down and watch some tuts :) thank you for your encouragement! Hopefully I will have time to make some more tutorials soon :)
Please creat more and more videos . And one request , can you please explain abou the basic knowledge about the software you are using like a tutorial . It's going to be great help for the students who want to be an medical animator , but have no opportunity in their country or the regions they are living . A lot of love from India .
Hi Emily! great tutorial! thanx for the knowledge :) i have a question , how did you array the objets like on a cilinder in the image at the beginning?
thanks but can you please explain which one is the best and fast renderer technique because you all have done but at last your work become stand by because of long lasting rendering processes ....actually when you do the rendering of subsurface....in organic mesh....!!!!!
Hi, thank you! I make the background in Photoshop for the first image, though could probably get a similar effect in AE. What program would you be looking at using for the background? :)
Hey Mike, thanks for your feedback! Yeah, on reflection the music is a bit high on this video. I reduced the volume significantly on my latest video. I think it is just a matter of preference, I kind of like having a background music but I can probably be a bit distracting for some! I think I probably have a bit more confidence with making the tutorials now and my voiceovers are improving each time so I think I might think of ditching the background music too maybe just keep a set 'jingle' for the beginning of each video. You have a great channel, thank you for taking the time to check out mine :)
Emily, You are precise, to the point and confident so don't change a thing ( just drop the music ) I have a scientist friend who is now getting into Maya to be able to animate planets and such I bet she would love to talk to you. Do you mind if I introduce you to her ? ( She is a member of my channel Hang Out Group ) Kind regards, Mike
Hello, thanks for the great tutorial. i'm trying to make a same scene from this video but i got a problem at 04:07. when i click Mash, it comes up a few villus and goes low a little bit. i move down the plane to fix it, but when i playback, the original villi appears so it bends right above the mash effect villus. i dont know what's going on. plz help TT
sarang khopker it was 2017 and an older version of Arnold and unfortunately aiSkin doesn’t exist anymore. If you use aiStandard and go into the presets at the top right hand side of the attribute editor there is a “skin” option. THAT will add some similar settings to the shader and you can adjust the colours etc in the subsurface scattering section. Hope this helps!
Hello! Yes, unfortunately the aiSkin material was in an earlier version of Arnold and it has been removed :( which is a shame because I liked it. You can achieve a similar look with aiStandard and the subsurface scattering options (remember under Geometry to select Thin-Walled').

Hi, Mash is build into Maya 2017 and is available on Maya 2016 Extension 2 (knowledge.autodesk.com/support/maya/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Where-to-download-Autodesk-Maya-2016-Extension-2.html)
Maybe this one could help? This is for Maya 2016 Extension 2, educational license. It may be easier to start with 2016 is you are used to 2012. ua-cam.com/video/hFDUIo44Uw8/v-deo.html
Huh-Tii-Huh hello! Yes, unfortunately the aiSkin got removed from Arnold a few versions ago :( I really liked it so I am sad to see it go! I've tried getting the same effect with aiStandard but haven't yet mastered it. Thank you for watching!
Thank you. I'm a medical animator too. www.VisusAnimation.com. Softimage for 20 years, now Maya. The production quality is great, but like Mike said, drop the music. (really distracting) If you want just play it during the first few seconds and let fade out, that would certainly be OK.
Todd Lawrimore hi! Thank you for your feedback. I agree, Mike was totally right and my recent videos only have sound at the start. Thank you so much for watching!
As a member of biomedicial community, I should say this is a really nice demonstration to mimic villi movement.
Finally I have a female tutor in my youtube sub list.
Great tutorial! and you have a very soothing voice
Thank you, that is good to hear! :)

Using maya 2019 the bend deformer stops affecting the mesh as soon as MASH is selected. Is there any way to make it work again?
ahh, dont worry, i figured it out! need to group the deformer and the mesh first before you MASH it :)
Dasha Tkachenko hi! I’m having the same issue but I haven’t been able to fix bit, can you give me any tips? How exactly did you group them?
very gd tutorial
Great tutorial Emily but please lose the music. You don't need it. The tut itself is great
Hey Mike, thanks for your feedback!
Yeah, on reflection the music is a bit high on this video. I reduced the volume significantly on my latest video.

You have a great channel, thank you for taking the time to check out mine :)
It will also stop me searching for creative commons music!
