- You may think that the Earthquaker devices Life Pedal V2 is just drone metal in a box. Of course, if you are chasing Sunn O))) this pedal it's simply fantastic. But the Life Pedal V2 does much more. This pedal is essentially a tremendous Rat distortion with three different types of clipping, a boost, and an octave. It is an extremely versatile pedal with which you can cover so many different genres. The Life Pedal V2 could easily be the only distortion box on your pedalboard.

So guys, which is the most versatile distortion box on your board?
Id have to say either my sparkle drive which I boost my tremoverb with. But it would probably have to go to my fuzzlord fet120. Eveything from warm boosted overdrive to doom.

I like my Fulltone OCD but Revv G3 is pretty much my only real "distortion box" that's always on the board. And i also have Fuzzes, Filter pedals and one Overdrive in front of the G3 =D

They should just make this pedal a regular part of their line. I hate the limited edition special super mojo edition unobtainium stuff. Just let the people who want to buy it be able to buy it.
I'm sure they'll do at some point, there is so much request around this pedal.
@@WeAsACompany Unfortunately, no they won't. They already stated that the parts for these pedals are not available anymore. They may make something similar, but not this exact pedal with the same chips.
@@philfrank5601 Didn't know that. I hope they find a way to make almost the same pedal with different parts. This pedal is too good for just a limited series.
There's already a bunch of clones on Reverb. I wish there were comparison vids somewhere though.
We As A Company I talked to a guy from EQD at NAMM this year, and he said it wasn’t gonna be a limited release. Apparently the band doesn’t want it to be a general release or something.
I was gonna get a rat because it's such a classic, but now I'm thinking of saving up for one of these. I wouldn't normally buy a boost, but having a built in one is super cool.

Man, that boost thru a jazzmaster sounds awesome! Well done! This pedal will end up on my board
100% agree, it's a dark but still clear kind of tone. To be honest, the boost is the best part of this pedal. We have the Life Pedal on a board and is placed at the beginning of the dirt chain. That boost makes every single dirt pedal (overdrive, muff, distortion) sound more organic. It's a miracle. As far as we know is the same boost of the Black Eye from EQD, unfortunately, discontinued.
This is a great pedal and a fantastic video. Having been down the rabbit hole of fuzz (and other types) pedals this is by far the most versatile one in my stack. Thanks for the details.

Love the vid. I'm sure this a really great pedal, but as it costs more than my whole pedalboard (used!), I'll make do with my Big Muff into Double Muff combination, which does all this too!

I love the sound of this thing. To satisfy my drive needs I own a TS7 Tubescreamer for the lighter distortion and a DOD Carcosa Fuzz for the heavy drone riffing. But this thing seems to combine the best of both! I would go and sell my pedals right now to buy one of these but seems like there are only used ones available, right? Together with the 60 Euro Shipping its so much :(

I loved this demo! Do you have to use a clean channel or can I use a dirty channel on a tube amp?
You can use a dirt channel too, of course the sound will be different. In this video we used a tone on the edge of breakup.
Im running my Jazzmaster into a Selmer TnB too! is yours the Mk II or a silver box/one of the old alligator ones? in any case I've got a life repro on the way already :p honestly didn't expect to find someone with the exact same setup
Mine is a silver box one but is also slightly modified to match the Selmer Stereomaster voicing.

Pharaoh is based on Muff and the Life Pedal is based on RAT. The Life pedal is not technically a fuzz, even if the RAT is probably one of the "fuzzier" distortions out there.
Sounds great but, I'll stick with my sabbra cadabra through the EVH chorus and 5150 pedals.

I bought one to replace my dod death metal pedal that I’ve been using for 15+ years and I like it.... but it’s not great for aggressive fast tempo stuff so I ended up buying a used metal zone to add that pure pissed off edge back to my guitar. I am not awesome at playing anyways but at least I can get doom riffs hammered out clean LoL
Agree, the Life pedal is not a chug-machine, but is great for doom, stoner, drone, and every other genre where you need a Rat pedal.
We As A Company I’m still building my board but I think I’m going to stop soon LoL I’m going to get a boss cs-3 or maybe a kongpressor (I just like the graphics honestly) and I would like to get either a data corrupter or a rainbow machine to add to my arsenal of noise. It is a slow process.
@@adrianmickles833 What would you use the compressor for in the context of Doom riffs and with a metal zone? Wouldn't the high gain kind of already do the trick?
Artec619 I just use the the boost from the life pedal to kick the metal zone into a sludge type of zone.... with both sides of the lifepedal with max amplified and magnified it’s just too much... I have my metal zone set to be half ass copying the death metal tone except more high end than low. And like I said not a super accomplished guitar player, experimental and repetitively best....
@@adrianmickles833 That's fine, but i personally don't think adding a compressor would do much in that sort of high gain scenario. How were you intending to use it?
You can make one of these for around £90. The graphics won’t look as nice, but so what. I make most of my pedals and it’s a doddle after a while. There are many kit companies out there, or you can just look up the circuit and component list and DIY it! It’s very satisfying!
Is the octave out of the circuit when at 0 . Or do you get some residue from it still ?

it's a shame that just 2500 pedals are made and you can't find it anywhere for less than 450 bucks (used); it's a price of a rack 3 channel Peavey fucking Rockmaster and more than the Effectrode Blackbird pedal preamp new!
I'm sure they'll put back in production at some point.
build a clone. PedalPCB has it, called Parentheses. Save yourself some money and get some practice soldering, which is really useful

"Drone Metal" lol had to google first but that's an actual thing. Finally i know what to use my EvilFilter-Clone for. But hey i still have no Rat-style distortion so maybe i'll get this one at some point.
If you're getting into drone metal check the bands Sunn and Boris. If you're looking for a great Rat you can't go wrong with the Life Pedal.
But will it chug?
mmmh, don't think so. It will chug as a Rat can chug. Maybe if you use it to boost a dirt channel on a tube amp.

So much easier to use that the V1 1st Edition front control unit which I have the first one.I think my version actually get hairier but this pedal form is just a better format for me. I knew I should have gotten one when they were 255.00 USD New. If they never made the pedal form the V1 pre-amp version with frontal controls would escalate in price like the KLON. They probably will still go up to 800.00-1000.00 eventually. I would never pay over 250.00-300.00 for a damn pedal.I don't care what it does.

Just buy a Rat pedal for a quarter of the price. Chances are you prob own other pedals (boost/octave etc) you can run with it anyway. One of the best additions to your collection you can make easy and surprisingly affordable considering arguably one of the most famous pedals.
