I had to replace a cracked base and firebox on my XL last spring. BGE was awesome and shipped the new parts to my local store. The replacement was easy and I was back in action. My wife owns the old base as a planter now. Great video, Cap!
Great video, i have warranty replacement dome, so this will help me out tremendously. I have had it for several months and just am crastinating, or I should say procrastinating as i am a pro. I dont have a table just the nest for my xl egg, so hopefully it is just as easy to remove it.
Thanks for doing the maintenance videos. I only had to replace the firebox in the 15 years I owned my Lg Green Egg along with the band update. I hope your WD had silicone in it instead just penetrating oil.
Another great video! I have a small FYI though, nail polish remover is acetone not alcohol. It's very effective and very flammable. Thanks again for the videos.
Thanks for the video! Are the X-shaped gasket pieces on the metal frame of the modular nest (sitting below the Egg) necessary? My nest came without them.
Love all your videos. Looking to replace the old hinge system on my 8 10 yr old lg egg to the new hinge design. I love it on my MiniMax. I can’t find one of your instructions video on how to remove the old hinge safely. Ty
Cap. Ron, I wish their so- called "limited warranty replacement" was true but it is very limited. They are very selective on what they will replace. Love your videos and appreciate the installation instructions.
Had to finally replace the base on my Mini this summer. I was replacing the gasket and notice a couple of huge cracks in the base and at the air vent. Same procedure but on a much smaller scale. So far on the Mini I have changed the base, 2 fire boxes, and 2 fire rings. The Mini is about 15 years old and has been used a lot. All parts were covered by Big Green Egg. Have also gotten warranty parts for both a large and a small. The new warranty process should shorten the length of time in getting the parts. Previously it would take 4-6 weeks versus about a week for the last parts I got. If the dealer has the parts in stock, shouldn't take more than a day to get replacements. BGE approved my warranty claim(s) in just a couple of hours.
I have a wooden table. I have about 1 1/2 inch piece of marble on the bottom shelf. On top of it, I put 4 paver stones with space between them for the egg to rest on. You can get the stones at Ace or other similar store.
One thing that you may want to do if you ever have to change the base is change the gasket to a rutland gasket. When you have a new base and an original gasket the new gasket is very easy to remove vs. trying to remove it after it’s been used for awhile.

Spoken like a true Eggspert. The Captain is always sharing the knowledge. Looks like someone has a new planter or fire pit from the old base.
Thanks so much. You are always so supportive

Sounds like you have your Green Egg dialed in! I have more than a coiple of planters around my house as well.
Thanks, Ron. I have three eggs and so far have never had any issues. Good to know it’s a straightforward job.
You're welcome! Hope to see you out at Memphis in May
Great video! Thanks Captain 👍🏼
You are very welcome!
Great video, Captain Ron!

Yes sir, it seems many bases have cracked recently

LOL, Steve, I am stealing that as I am a PRO as well. Like Nike says, Just Do IT! You'll wonder why you waited so long

Great video Capt Ron👍👍
I see what you did there.....and I LOVE IT!!!

You’re welcome! Silicone is a great idea!
What do you like better the kickash basket or bge stainless fire bowl can't decide which is better to buy ?
We actually sell the Kick Ash Basket right on our website...... kookio.com
Another great video!

Thanks again for the videos.
Thanks for the info
Thanks for the video!

My first one didn't come with them either and I have never had a problem

I have actually never made a video like that. I believe that you should zip tie the old hinge shut prior to removing it.

I am surprised to hear that. I have had nothing but positive feedback
Another very helpful video, thanks Captain Ron. This Captain Ron wonders what thermometer do you recommend for the lid of your XL BGE?
The original is always good

It’s a shame that the bases are cracking, but good to know that warranty service is getting faster!

That sounds like the perfect setup!
@FOGOcharcoal It works pretty well..
When you are in ATL can you replace mine? It’s too heavy for little ole me 💋
You know I will my friend.

Many people enjoy the Rutland gasket. We have even done a video about it but.....be careful as it may void the warranty
my Weber is a piece of junk, but has never cracked open.
Nothng wrong with a Weber
