- Habibati! I couldn't stay away from Nightwish for too long, so Joe prepped a mellow(er) track of their's, and from what I can tell, this band can do no wrong! 'Ever Dream" was a really special song, and after listening to it a few more times after we were done filming, I can really tell why.

It’s one of the few older songs that they play at almost every show. All 3 singers have had a go at this song. It’s so good. A nice soft, slow beginning followed by an energetic masterpiece.

You comment about the emotions and that is one of Tuomas's great skills - the ability to pour huge amounts of emotion into his compositions, and when teamed up with musicians and vocalists this good, those emotions are bound to get expressed. In fact in one of the songs from this show (I think Nemo, but don't yell at me if I'm wrong N.A.) someone holds up a sign saying something like "Thank you Tuomas for the gift of emotions."
My favourite feel good song. Especially when I am a little bit drunk... like now! 🍻😅

Your enthusiasm makes me smile...thank you for that! Some suggestions for future Nightwish reactions: from the same Wacken 2013 show...Storytime, Song of Myself, I Want My Tears Back. From the Buenos Aires show...The Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean. From Tampere...The Greatest Show On Earth ( probably their most epic song/performance to date...definitely lives up to its title). Also, since you did a Within Temptation song from Black Symphony, I’d recommend Our Solemn Hour from that same show.

This is my favorite song from Wacken 2013. Never have you heard a frantic drum breakdown, coupled with desperate vocals, as you do here.
Floor gives me goosebumps every time I hear this song. Every. Single. Time.
And that was me! I was the one who mentioned about Ghost Love Score being 70 minutes into the setlist -- this song was #5 into the set, as Floor is wearing a different outfit for Ever Dream than she is for Ghost Love Score.
And to answer your question: This is a song about the emotion a person goes through, when they want to be with someone else, and the other person hasn't said "yes" or "no" yet, hence the line "Do you ever dream of me?" Its why the song, vocally, has a desperate feel to it -- because it's a manifestation of the emotion when one feels as though if they dont show their true feelings, then the one they want to love will walk away, or disappear somehow, from their life.
It is one of the most vulnerable things anyone can feel -- and one of the most human things anyone can feel.
Nightwish has to be one of the best live bands out there. So damn good

At Wacken Concert Ever Dream was # 5, Ghost Love Score #13 of 15. You love the emotion and harmony with Marco and Floor, as do I. Now get ready and strap in for 'Ghost River" also from Wacken....Vocal fry, growl, power harmony, it's all there. When you recover from that check out Romanticide also from Wacken. This one has HIGH harmony on the edge of Scream. You gonna love ! Great reaction,,,,Key and time changes are part of the fun.

I would like to give you some background information. Here is a cheat sheet...... lol
Nightwish was started in 1996. They are considered a female-fronted symphonic metal band. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco is the Bassist and vocals. And there is the guitarist Emppu. Then there is Troy Donockley who is a multi-instrumentalist and does vocals. Jukka is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues, Kai became the drummer and as of now is a permanent member.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. the 2nd one was Anette Olzon (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012. The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from the Netherlands. ( power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile)
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit live ( Floor).
I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me, Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. I discovered them about 5 years ago. I saw them in concert in March in the US. They are unbelievable live. Their music has gotten me through some tough times. The song your first reacted to, “The Poet and The Pendulum” is a very personal song for Tuomas. The short story is that it’s about the emotional aftermath of the firing of their first vocalist, Tarja. Tarja, Tuomas, and Empu were childhood friends. So when they fired her, it was hard emotionally and professionally. There was a bit of backlash because of it. It’s said that this is a figurative suicide for Tuomas, a way to deal with all his emotions. If you go back and listen to it with the lyrics you will hear all the pain and anger and sorrow in the song.
But I love your reactions.
If you want another Nightwish song to react to, I recommend “Yours Is An Empty Hope” live from Wembley. If you want a fun song “I Want My Tears Back” live in Buenos Aries. That one makes me smile every time.

Limits??? Listen to some of her 2019 Beste Zangers performances especially the last bit of Phantom of the Opera, her really growling at Bloodstock 2014 doing Wild Card and her rendition of O mio babbino caro. As for Marko try Isäni ääni or he and Floor singing Ave Maria together during a Finnish Christmas show. It's older and Marko is the only one singing but the Nightwish cover of the Pink Floyd song High Hopes. BTW, he actually lost some of his upper range in the late 90's due to a surgical error.

Yes, as you said, this is a very personal song for Tuomas and admittedly refers to Tarja. That's the generally accepted interpretation among most fans.

This is a wonderful song to look at the evolution of the band. All three singers have live versions and to stat with Tarja's rendition and flow thru Annette's and end with Floor's redition. I love that Marco can go full vocal strength with Floor! Wow... on the electrical front. If you want to get an idea of Floor's vocal range, watch Best Zangers 2019 Floor's duet with Henk Poort of Phantom of the Opera. The rendition they use is Tuomas' and you can hear Nightwish sing it at the End of an Era concert with Marco and Tarja singing it.

Btw you asked in one of your first reactions about that "falming skull"...this is the Wacken (open air) logo. It is one of the biggest metal festivals here in germany/europe...they were the headliner 2013. afaik there were more than 80k ppl in the crowd.
