Back in 2016 I think it was, Tuomas said in an interview, "Floor is home." It's so great that this band is basically a family now and all are so happy. She calls them her brothers and they treat her as their younger sister. I think it's amazing that Floor was just coming off a cold or something which effected her voice somewhat. I've got this DVD and in the beginning of the concert she sounded a little rough but by the end of the concert her voice was back to normal - the best voice ever.
I always look forward to your Nightwish reactions! This version is so good. Modern Nightwish with Floor completely changes this from a middling track into the amazing track it really was.This is one of the secret-unlocking tracks that contains "The Dead Boy" and "The Oceansoul" and a poem, that has to be written by "The Poet". These themes are interspersed all through Tuomas' works
I love Tarja, I really do. I discovered NW with the Once album and both "Nemo" and "Dark Chest of Wonders" were my first favorite NW songs. That said, Floor has a way of refreshing the back catalog of music in a way that gives songs like Dead Boy's Poem new life (pardon the pun). Her range is just so dynamic she can color songs with emotion, intonation, and resonance. I don't think Tarja (amazing as she was and is) has the dynamism Floor does.

Troy was playing a bouzouki. Tuomas wrote the poem. I think it's basically about how he felt about his life and music when this was written (about 2000).
It is, in effect, Tuomas' self-written epitaph. He uses several characters when speaking of himself, poet, writer, dreamer and especially boy because he has said he had such a glorious and happy childhood, this is Tuomas speaking to us all after his death. The swans are pertinent, in Finnish culture I understand that swans carry you to whatever is the afterlife and of course there is the musical work by Sibelius, The Swan of Tuonela.

Hell yeah, THIS version of Dead Boy's Poem is the ultimate one IMO, i remember i heard the Wembley one bofore, and yes it was nice but when i heard finally this one, i got tears once again in my eyes...it is wonderfull. Times and again, Floor manages to radiate the emotions in such way that you feel them even when watching mere video recording year(s) later...

Marko's guitar not supposed to sound like that - I think it is, when you have a piezo-pickup on it. Nothing we can do about it. Emppu - As far as I know he has been given free hands by Tuomas to do what he think suits the song and enhance the music the most, and these short little Masterpieces is what we get. Not too much, not too little, just exactly right. Tasteful is a word I see in many comments, pure class! It wound be so easy for him to go bezerk and shred away like crazy, but he doesn't. Another reactor (Chase Carneson) said he is probably the most selfless musician right now. Cheers / B.
I have never spotted a piezo bridge pick-up on Marko's double neck Infinity/Panthera, not even in the crew video when his guitars are shown and described, but it may be. He always uses this instrument for an acoustic sound on the 6 string neck and for some time now has used a Kemper profiling/modelling amplifier. I think it's a Kemper profile, you can get anything out of these devices you could ever wish for. I would wholeheartedly agree about Emppu, he is hugely underrated, but they all do what the song and music needs without over embellishment.
Also, friend of Chase, Tank the Tech is a roadie that reacts to NW songs as well other bands and he always have meaningful comments regarding the gear being used.
@@572Btriode a piezo can be built into almost any guitar bridge and isn’t always visible. I’ve seen solid bodies with piezo pickups before, and they still sound (mostly) acoustic. Works wonders with a semi-hollow like Marcos. There may be some post processing profiling happening, but I don’t think so. It sounds like a semi-acoustic guitar being played through a bass rig, though with a hell of a lot of reverb. :). Marco’s able to get some killer tone out of his rigs, that much is for certain.
@@calibadgerdude6082 Yep, may be. "Gear Gods" did their set-up and no piezo was mentioned or shown, but the bass is DI'd of course and both Marko and Emppu use a Kemper for the 6 strings. ISTR that after the Kemper Marko is DI'd, but Emppu has the 4 x 12 also for sustain and feedback along with a DI input from his Kemper.
They're all beautiful human beings, but yes, maybe none more so than the Grand Master Tuomas. And now he has his own personal goddess to front his band. It doesn't get any better!

Also, thanks for your comment re Emppu's playing style. I think he is under-rated because he plays the music rather than doing fancy solos which don't necessarily fit in.
Definitely not a followup to The Poet and the Pendulum, as this is off, I think it was Century Child, so about 2000, therefore written a good five to seven years before The Poet and the Pendulum.

The 2nd reaction to this song I see today, and I'm not complaining. I'm in for a 3rd one. I think it took me awhile to really understand how good a song this is. Troy is playing his custom made electric Bouzouki. It and the Mandola he can also play are similar in size, and like the Mandolin (which I'm sure he can also play), are 4 pairs of strings for the ringing sound. He's got a capo on for this as well, so closer to a Mandolin in sound than when full length. Marko uses the piezo (iirc built into the bridge, not an added on one) to emulate an acoustic guitar sound for this song, The Islander and a few others.

EMPPU has a side band he plays for, (BROTHER FIRETRIBE )is the name of the band. The one I like is ( indelible HEROS) live at the masters of rock 2017.

This really was the 'proto-poet and the pendulum' . This was Tuomas working through his disappointments. Little did he know... :P "Dead Boy" and "Ocean Soul" are like "The Poet", aspects of Tuomas when he writes about himself.

Nightwish Army, New Zealand Division reporting. Maybe Nightwish's most beautiful song. This is a great version, but I do prefer the more "operatic" style of Tarja in the "official" version (I prefer Floor in other songs).

I believe to achieve Marco’s guitar sound, that they have sampled his acoustic guitar sound through a Kemper Amp Profiler which allows you to record the tone of an amp or guitar into a digital version of it. I know Emmpu uses the Kemper fir his guitar tone which took them Two days to track and capture his Mesa Boogie guitar amp. This allows fir sound consistency in any venue or atmosphere and you can create perfect duplicates of the sounds in a backup profiler in case the main one happens to breakdown. It can also give a pretty accurate tonal quality of the actual amp or instrument being profiled. I have noticed that Emmpu has more than one guitar tone (though the differences are very subtle) depending on the song they are playing. So you are right, that guitar should not sound like an acoustic guitar but due to modern technology they can now make it sound like one!!!!

He always uses this instrument for an acoustic sound on the 6 string neck and for some time now has used a Kemper profiling/modelling amplifier. I think it's a Kemper profile, you can get anything out of these devices you could ever wish for.
I would wholeheartedly agree about Emppu, he is hugely underrated, but they all do what the song and music needs without over embellishment.
Also, friend of Chase, Tank the Tech is a roadie that reacts to NW songs as well other bands and he always have meaningful comments regarding the gear being used.

@@572Btriode a piezo can be built into almost any guitar bridge and isn’t always visible. I’ve seen solid bodies with piezo pickups before, and they still sound (mostly) acoustic. Works wonders with a semi-hollow like Marcos. There may be some post processing profiling happening, but I don’t think so. It sounds like a semi-acoustic guitar being played through a bass rig, though with a hell of a lot of reverb. :). Marco’s able to get some killer tone out of his rigs, that much is for certain.
@@calibadgerdude6082 Yep, may be. "Gear Gods" did their set-up and no piezo was mentioned or shown, but the bass is DI'd of course and both Marko and Emppu use a Kemper for the 6 strings. ISTR that after the Kemper Marko is DI'd, but Emppu has the 4 x 12 also for sustain and feedback along with a DI input from his Kemper.

The 2nd reaction to this song I see today, and I'm not complaining. I'm in for a 3rd one. I think it took me awhile to really understand how good a song this is. Not that I wouldn't have liked it from the beginning. I wonder why I can hear the choir boy reading the poem so clear, when usually I can't.

Troy is playing his custom made electric Bouzouki. It and the Mandola he can also play are similar in size, and like the Mandolin (which I'm sure he can also play), are 4 pairs of strings for the ringing sound. He's got a capo on for this as well, so closer to a Mandolin in sound than when full length.
Marko uses the piezo (iirc built into the bridge, not an added on one) to emulate an acoustic guitar sound for this song, The Islander and a few others.

This really was the 'proto-poet and the pendulum' . This was Tuomas working through his disappointments. Little did he know... :P "Dead Boy" and "Ocean Soul" are like "The Poet", aspects of Tuomas when he writes about himself.

I believe to achieve Marco’s guitar sound, that they have sampled his acoustic guitar sound through a Kemper Amp Profiler which allows you to record the tone of an amp or guitar into a digital version of it.
I know Emmpu uses the Kemper fir his guitar tone which took them Two days to track and capture his Mesa Boogie guitar amp.
This allows fir sound consistency in any venue or atmosphere and you can create perfect duplicates of the sounds in a backup profiler in case the main one happens to breakdown.
It can also give a pretty accurate tonal quality of the actual amp or instrument being profiled.
I have noticed that Emmpu has more than one guitar tone (though the differences are very subtle) depending on the song they are playing.
So you are right, that guitar should not sound like an acoustic guitar but due to modern technology they can now make it sound like one!!!!
