It wasn't their second single over all, but their second single of their fourth album "Piece of mind" (pun intended). The first single was "Flight of Icarus", by the way. This album was the immediate successor to their 1982 launch to superstardom, "The number of the beast", including the two major hits "Run to the hills" and the title track, as well as what many fans regard as their all-time finest moment, "Hallowed be thy name".
However, their arguably most popular song of all time came as relatively late as 1992: "Fear of the dark".
All but one of all these songs are composed by the band's founder, main writer and undisputed leader, bass guitar genius Steve Harris. ("Flight of Icarus" is written by guitarist Adrian Smith). Note the characteristic "gallop bass" of Harris' lightning-fast fingerstyle playing, creating a groove immediately recognizable as Iron Maiden, and turning Harris himself - ever-modest as he is - one of the most influential and popular bassists ever.

Hello Sue, my name is Brian from White Bear Lake, Minnesota...So i have a song video for you to watch from Iron Maiden, it's the Live 1982 version of 'Hallowed Be Thy Name', it is considered to be the best rock video ever made, singer Bruce Dickinson sings his butt off in this video, you can really hear his operatic voice come out in this song, with his long vabratos, and long notes, not to mention his vocal range. In my opinion this why i think every other rock singer secretly wishes that they could sing like Bruce could when he was in his prime. Pay attention to the long note in the beggining of the song, and the 2 long notes at end of song, they are 'EPIC'...The song is about a man being sent to the gallows to be hanged and he is looking back on his life. Most of Iron Maiden's songs are about an important event that has happened in history. So watch this video for sure, it is amazing !!!...Must Watch.
    Thank You Sue 🤘🤘

Great reaction Sue, welcome to a deep rabbit hole. The boys are currently touring, and just announced today a new world tour starting in May 2025 going into 2026. As an old Iron Maiden fan since there 3rd album , The Number of the Beast, a good idea is to have the lyrics open to follow. Bruce has a very clear voice, but the lyric are generally not just simple bubble gum crap. The band included the lyric in all there Albums, Cassettes and CD's, and I appreciate it. Enjoy the journey, my favorite band without a doubt. Up the Irons!!

I have a strange relationship with Maiden, and I hate this video. I FIRST SAW THEM FAIRLY EARLY ON IN A SMALL PUB IN LONDON. I THINK they're totally over hyped, and I don't think Bruce can sing. The footage is from anThe Charge of the Light Brigade, starring Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland, a 1936 movie. I find their music one dimensional, samey and cliched. I prefer their first singer Paul Dianno. The world worships maiden, especially North and South America, but I don't think they understand how cliched the whole thing is.

One other thing about Maiden: None of their music has ever received radio airplay or other forms of mainstream promotion. So I'm not sure who would be doing the overhyping.
