This has always been my clear favourite version of the song .. I don't listen to a lot of this style of music, but Julie's voice here makes it a song I would gladly hear many times .. And despite the poor visual quality of the video, it was still great to see her performance .. A beautiful and classy lady .. Nice one, Sue.
@wayne_twentyfive so glad you enjoy this song, Wayne. She gave a flawless performance here...you are so right...so classy and what a voice 🤩💜
Another lady to check out is Peggy Lee. The old time Lounge Singers were just so great.
@P-M-869 yes Patrick...good suggestion 🤩
Hi Sue, Julie retired from singing many years before my time. She appeared in some films & TV, as you said. She made many albums. Another of her great songs is Round Midnight.
I will have to check that one out, Dave. I don't know that one 😀
Hi Sue, The Stranglers were not your typical punk band. They were older than the normal puck rockers and were rather ostracised by the other groups at the time. They learned their trade as pub rockers, so could actually play their instruments. I saw them before they became famous. The keyboard player was magnificent.
Hey Dave, why were they ostracised? Was it because they were older
From when I was 16 The Stranglers were my Favourites by a Distance.
@@simondalzell5635 😎💙
He is a great artist. Such a smooth vocal, but with power. He has quite a few great tunes. G’day from Oz.
I agree 100%, Kazz! greetings from me here in Canada 🤩
Julie has a lovely strong voice, I enjoyed listening to this.
@@kimr3729 Yes Kim, she does. She has a gorgeous voice 🤩
Thank you Sue - I really loved listening to Julie London and her voice is so rich and such a joy to let it reverberate through one's soul. Rather beautiful as well.
oh I love that, Willster...."reverberate through one's soul"....very poetic 😍
This was absolutely amazing The accompaniment was spot on ; it is so much harder to play with this kind if restraint and tome and her voice is perfect Another version of this song was ny an 80’s UK singer called Mari Wilson Mari was a retro act , beehive hairdo and sometime jokey but man could she sing . Check her out on TOTP doing Cry me a River or Just What I Always Wanted ( thats a fun one ) Tracy Ullman did some retro stuff around that time too with songs like They Don’t Know About Us As to your point about the title entering our lexicon Justin Timberlake had song of same name . I guess Hamilton should have copyrighted the phrase
Thanks Jesse, I haven't heard of Mari but I do know Tracey. I enjoyed Tracey's one album. I think you are right about copyrighting the phrase haha. Wasn't Julie magnificent?!....so beautifully done 😍
You cant teach what Julie had
@@jessem470 No you can not....a true gift 🤩
Yes Jesse, Mari Wilson's song "Just What I Always Wanted" is great .. I heard it a lot on an alternative radio station in Oz, and really liked it .. Didn't hear much else of hers, but from the videos I saw, she was a fun and talented performer. As for Tracey Ullman, like Sue, I also enjoyed that excellent and very successful debut album of hers "You Broke My Heart In 17 Places" .. There were quite a few retro songs on it, including many covers of cool 60s songs, but I wouldn't really call "They Don't Know" retro .. That song was originally done in 1979 ( only 4 years before Tracey's version ) by the wonderful singer / songwriter, Kirsty MacColl .. Her version ( of which I bought the single ) is one of my very favourite songs .. Your musical knowledge is very wide, Jesse, so I'm sure you would be very familiar with Kirsty's work .. I feel she was very much under-rated .. And BTW, the title song "You Broke My Heart In Seventeen Places" is another great Kirsty-written song which sadly she never released herself .. There's a video on YT of her performing it live at some venue, but the crowd noise makes it very hard to hear her properly .. Still worth watching if you are a fan of the song .. Cheers, mate.
@@wayne_twentyfive hi Wayne Yes i know Kirsty very well from her vesion of Billy Bragg’s New England to her spectacular duet with Shane on Fairytale of New York Such a tragedy we lost her so young
Have several albums of Ms London's and would listen to them on long road trips. Was so happy when modern artists released albums of Standards like Linda Ronstadt and Carly Simon. If you can find a copy of the Cd ,"The Glory of Gershwin" give it a listen. Gershwin sang by artists like Cher, Peter Gabriel, Elton John, Elvis Costello, Carly Simon and more.
@davidgiles5912 thanks David very cool 🤩
I had a 2CD set many years ago called That's Jazz & this version was on it. Fell in love with it & think Julie's version is the best!!! Just her voice & guitar.
Hey Ian, it is an amazing song. Her voice is incredible 🤩
This is real music. You hear her beautiful voice above the instrumentation. It is absolutely so needed in this world today. She is a rare talent.
I agree 💯
Always thought she looked much hotter as a brunette. See also the "Frozen" video.
@@OroborusFMA hey Oroborus, I think she looks better as a brunette as well 🤩
Best Song Ever - Love the message of this song also.
@@John-cv6fu I agree, John...fantastic message 🤩

@@kimr3729 wasn't it fun, Kim?! I really liked it too 🤩
She gives me goosebumps and sends shivers down my spine , I’ve loved this version since it first came out .
@peterwiles7953 hey Peter, I completely understand why. Jennifer has a stunning voice 🤩
1978 this came out on powerage so the show would have been around that time.
@kevinmcgeown9727 thanks Kevin 🤩
.The lead is Judith Durham. The Seekers are Australian and ate icons spanning at least 4 decades.

Loving your reactions, Sue, if you like this era, don't forget I would love you to review Ian Dury and The Blockhead's 1979 song Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick!💙👍💙
@Willster389 thanks Willster. I appreciate your kind words. HMWYRS is on the list 🥰
Great punk band but a lot of appearances on Top Pop were mimed and it looked like The Stranglers were making fun of that simple fact - they were really good live.
I agree, Willster. They are definitely having some fun with the lip synching 🤩💛
One of favourite punk / new wave era bands ! .. These guys were just wonderful .. Started off with their rougher punk / post punk feel, and had many classics such as this, "Hanging Around", "Get A Grip On Yourself", "Peaches", "Who Wants The World" and "Something Better Change" .. Then they refined their sound and had hits with songs such as "Golden Brown" :"Strange Little Girl", "Skin Deep" and :"Always The Sun" .. I preferred their edgier early stuff, but it was all good .. Dave Greenfield ( RIP ) added a very distinctive sound to the band with his brilliant keyboards, which were a bit unusual for punk type bands .. More Stranglers please, Sue !
@wayne_twentyfive Hi Wayne, I will be more than happy to do more of the Stranglers. I agree with with on the evolution of the band's sound. I really need to dug deeper into this band. I know some stuff but not tons. I appreciate your suggestions. It will point me in the right direction 🥰💜
@@playitagainsue Looking forward to it, Sue .. But I must qualify my love for The Stranglers .. I am a super huge fan of the classic line up of Hugh Cornwell, JJ Burnell, Dave Greenfield, and Jet Black", but once Hugh left in 1990, it just wasn't the same anymore .. For me, the 70s was there very best and captivating work, with a smattering of great songs ( particularly "Golden Brown" ) after that.
@@wayne_twentyfive I gotcha, my friend 🥰
Her version of Burt Bachrachs Alfie is exquisite!
@@Ahhposition hi Ahhposition. I just recently did a reaction to Alfie. You could check it out if you are interested 🤩
This was fantastic The Stranglers were possibly the most musical of the british punk bands They were slightly over than most of the bands and i always thought of them as a punk version of The Doors ( because keyboards being most prevalent) Their Debut album Rattus Norvegicus is a masterpiece and has Peaches Hanging Around Get a grip on Yourself Down in the Sewer 2nd only to Televisions ;Marquee Moon Another great Stranglers song is Duchess As for characters in No More Hero’s They mention Sancho Panza He was the squire to Don Quioxite Any of the songs i mention would be great Golden Brown you should listen with fresh ears if you didn’t know os it was about Heroin
@jessem470 Hey Jesse, great comparison with the punk version of the Doors...yes it is the keyboards. Peaches is a great song and so is Golden Brown. I saw them back in the day in a small club. I still have my Rat cap that I still wear to play ball in. But even though, I saw them, I really need to dive deeper into them. I went because my bro was a big fan. Thanks a bunch for the info 🤩💛
3:40 they are mocking lipsync bands, guitar heroes etc
@fredarsenault8987 hey Fred, I loved it...well done 🤩
I would suggest a song called " Oh Grace" from her album "Bittersweet".
@GaryNoone-jz3mq thanks Gary 🤩
Just came across your video. Nice twist in how you reacted to it, by having your friend guess the song before revealing it to her. And you're right! Madonna was the first major artist to unveil a brand new song to the world through a major brand such as Pepsi. Any other artist, their song/album was already released to the world and the song featured in the commercial was already well known such as MJ's Pepsi's Commerical which was a re-worked version of Billie Jean to fit the commercial's tag/logo at the time, "A new Generation". I think Pepsi originally approached Madonna to try to do the same with a song, but she refused and basically demanded they work around the new song while shooting a video specifically for Pepsi. Further trivia. The commercial debuted during Prime Time on NBC's biggest show: The Cosby Show. The commercial was only shown once on American television as it premiered before the music video for LAP (which you just revewed) aired the next day. That's when things hit the fan, and Pepsi pulled out in sponsoring an upcoming tour and any other music from her. Madonna ended up keeping the 5 Million bucks advanced to her, and the controversial attention only helped make the song be as successful as it was. Good luck on your channel.
@WilUnleashed hey Wil, thanks for tuning in and for your kind words. I really appreciate you telling me the backstory. That was awesome. I don't always have friends join me but I do like to do name that tune when they join me. 🤩💛
They certainly had fun! Not my usual choice of music but I enjoyed that😊
@@andrewjenkinson7052 hi Andy, they were definitely having a good time. I really enjoyed that performance 🥰
Robert knight sang everlasting love. Which love affair did there version. Not rainbow valley.wires crossed I am afraid
@philmacfox Hi Philmacfox. Thanks for the comment. Robert did sing EL first. You are correct but he also sang this one before them as well. Both songs were on his 1967 album 🥰 en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Rainbow_Valley#:~:text=However%2C%20according%20to%20the%20band's,by%20the%20Keith%20Mansfield%20Orchestra.
You should probably check out the brothers Los Vásquez from Chile. They sing mostly pop and rancheras (a Mexican type of music). They have beautiful voices and great instrumentation.
RIP Florian ❤🎉
Hello girls, I recommend 2 most recent songs by Madonna containing a beautiful chorus The first is Nothing Fails, the second Living For Love
@blueeyes4910 hey Rebel, nice ti hear from you again. Thanks for the suggestions. I appreciate it 🤩
Fun! Please don't refer to Madonna as being popular in the 80s only. She just attracted 1. 6 million people to a concert in Rio last month and The Guinness Book of World Records just declared her as the best selling female artist of all time with 400 million albums sold, 150 million of which she has sold in the last 20 years. Moreover, some of her best albums are from the last 20 years including Madame X and Confessions on a Dance floor. At any rate, great reaction!
'Coz I Luv You', is another song of theirs worth reacting to.
This is the show that helped them break into America. I think Aerosmith and Ted Nugent introduced them as they were touring with them. History right there!
@user-yz1jx3ln8x that is awesome! Thanks for the info, Paul 🧡
@@playitagainsue great reaction! My dad used to watch them at the Bondi Lifesaver when they were busting their chops. They’re a true rock band that have played all the pubs. Malcolm Young in my mind is a true genius, he gave a unique sound and kept it simple, never changed and had the right men in his band to do the job.

How about a new, young artist from Russia? I think you will be very pleased to hear her cover of the legendary Elvis song "Can't Help Falling in Love". React to her and I bet you will thank me later: ua-cam.com/video/M-znD6QKbrg/v-deo.html
Great video and song I wonder if Madonna had the pepsi money before producing such an elaborate video I remember how scandalous madonna was considered with this religious imagery and then the SEX book ( which fell apart , bad design ) so if you have an intact copy hold on to it . I sorta went off her when she moved to England called herself Madge and acted like gentry Anyway I do like Ray of Light and all her early hits I think it was the Pepsi commercial where MJ had the accident and his hair caught on fire
Hey Jesse, that is a great question about Pepsi money. She may have because this video was amazing for its time. It is funny to think about the scandals now as so much would be considered ordinary today but she eas edgy for back in the day...trailblazer in that area. Yes it was a Pepsi commercial when MJ burnt his hair...that would have been scary for him 💜
Wow what a fab time for music esp of late with 3 female singers coming on the scene big time tori holub, sydnie christmas, lucy thomas, 3 voices to die for the future very bright .👍
Love this. High school memories
