Imagine going to a record producer in the U.S. and saying, "we want to do a 21 minute song about evolution". This is why I listen to European and Japanese bands.
American or Hollywood music is infested and controlled by dark forces, Performers and bands are elevated and promoted to confuse, pervert, and spiritually weaken Western society, in my opinion.
Dragging a whole Symphony Orchestra along during NW tours is too costly and too complex, so backing tracks it is. And as always: Floor: "Enter Luca" Marko: "Enter Ionia" Emppu: "Enter Sandman"
Only Nightwish could produce a song so grand and broad as to be about life and evolution, based to some degree on Sir Richard Dawkins book, The Greatest Show on Earth, but then to get Sir Richard to narrate the song, then for this show to do the final piece live. I have seen Nightwish live and they really are that good!!
In addition to his music, when I heard the lyric "the tapestry of chemistry", was when I realized that Tuomas was also a poet. Writing in a second language, too.
the writing in the garden leads us to the mother of all - so beautiful a description of biology and evolution: the fixed laws of gravity draw the newborns around the fire - are the new planets around the sun of course
"Goldilock zone. She has a tale to tell". Like most of us remember the children fairytale "Goldilock" was about a little girl, three bears and three soup bowls in the bear nest. The girl tasted the first soup and it was too hot. Then she tasted the 2nd soup and it was too cold. The 3rd one was just about the right temperature...... Wow! Think of the Sun and planets near it? What planet is the 3rd one? Earth of course. And how about planets more near to the Sun? Too hot... And planets after Earth? Too cold.... Planet Earth (She) and all life before us and after us just happens to be trapped in the right distance from the Sun to make life possible.

@@islgrl292 This is a typical blunder by the nightwish fans. Tampere is way better, but this gets recommended because of some personal aspect. This whole concert was amazing. It included all three of Tuomas's masterworks, The Poet and the Pendulum, Ghost Love Score and this The Greatest Show on Earth. The narrator is Professor Richard Dawkins. The recorded spoken pieces were quotes from his book. The final quote he spoke on stage was from Charles Darwin.

As I'm sure has been said many times already, but EVERY SONG from their 2013 performance at WACKEN Open Air in Germany is fantastic and total worth a watch/listen. That concert includes Ghost Love Score, which is the entry way song to many people to Nightwish over the last decade, including me. No encores with NW. Their outros are out of this world. The last tour had the band standing behind Floor who sang a small portion of As Astra (part of an instrumental b-sides of the last album) saw those in USA & Europe. It was very emotional. Must see band live at least once in your life
NW sometimes does encores but those are part of the set and they will perform the encore songs after exiting the stage and returning no matter what the audience does. That said, I think they haven't bothered to do the exit stage - return to stage routine in a long time anymore.
Btw that part after the second verse of the part "the toolmaker" where they slow down and lower volume and reenter with a bit harpsichord and banjos then go to Bach's Toccata and Fugue from Symphonie in D minor they also include a piece of minuet then go to that riff from Enter Sandman by Metallica...as well some small piece of Techno sounding like prodigy is Thomas's way to do a small review on evolution of music
There are few other music types in the section besides the ones you listed. It starts from a time way before harpsichord. There is also tribal and Gregorian chant (Dies Irae). I think there should be Rock Around The Clock too, but haven't found it. It has to be certain place, but it is not there or I don't know the song well enough. Just a small correction to a name that you probably know. Tuomas, not Thomas. Well, Tuomas is basically Finnish equivalent to Thomas so it is not far off. Personally I don't mind how people say or write it though. You apparently know their music so I wanted to mention that.
I think the idea of all those music fragments is to give the listener understanding of the timescales. The time goes pretty fast from Bach (1700s) to Metallica (1991) followed by 2000s techno music. It demonstrates evolution of music as a bonus but I take that the original idea was to demonstrate time passing and those were understandable calibration points.

Most nightwish fans are going to say start with ghost love score because it's traditional. But since you are already metal fans, I'm going to suggest Romanticide, Storytime, Yours is an Empty Hope, and the Poet and the Pendulum. Ghost Love Score is also phenomenal, but it isn't quite as heavy. NW fans can be brutal. Thick skin is needed. Thanks for giving a listen! I enjoyed your take on this incredible song. Peace! ❤ (The symphony is a recording of the London Philharmonic) Speaking of that, Tuomas has a heavy classical background. Considering he has done extensive work with classical pieces still to this day. If it interests you, you can check out all the Nightwish instrumentals. He is an exceptional composer. 🙏🏻🫶🏻❤️
Tuomas in every album writing also orchestral version of every song and going to London to make it,of course live its impossible to have live orchestra but in album its a real orchestra with everything inside, thats why Tuomas is called Mozart our times
Tuomas is brain of Nightwish but all band is just pure talented, humble people,i was lucky to see them alive when Floor was pregnant, kind of 6 or 7 month and they still was great, even without Marko
That was Richard Dawkins, the biologist, he is quite famous, and he is reciting Darwin. Endless Forms Most beautiful (Darwin) is also the name of the Nightwish album.
I highly recommend that you guys react to their other 15 minute masterpiece. "The Poet And The Pendulum" from this same Wembley 2015 concert. It will absolutely blow you away
Tuomas is the creative force, but in the case of this album, the drive came from Troy, who introduced him to Richard Dawkins' work. Between them they wrote a letter (a real one on paper) to Richard asking him if he would narrate this song. He agreed, and as you can see, also agreed to perform it live on stage when they came to Wembley. This show was my live introduction to Nightwish. Before this I had never heard of them.
Uilleann pipes are bagpipes. For some reason a lot of people think that Scottish (great highlands bagpipes) are the only bagpipe, but that is not true. There are traditional bagpipes all over the world. Bagpipe is the generic name for that type of instruments and not a name of a specific model/version.
I was indeed there that night, this was a pretty special song as well. I was sitting next to a father and son, the son was sceptical at first, by the end he was pretty stunned.
Tuomas, the keyboard player (genius composer and the one who created this whole thing 😉) has a bottle of wine or 2 in a special holder on his stand LOL. The Metallica Riff ended a brief histiry of music in which started with the Harpischord you heard. There are a ton of easter eggs. Check out "7 Days to the Wolves" for another banger from this same show. Epic! With Nightwish, good music is just good music. The entire 2013 Wacken show is easily considered one of the best concerts ever. You guys should check it out ! Nightwish fans would show up. We love it. ❤️
Tuomas was to make this 45 min long but had to shorten it in order to fit on an album side. 4,6 billion years still to be explained here. Yes he is Metal Mozart to be able to write this and plenty of more. Dawkins in the end was a pearl too. Check also Tampere version...maybe even more grand. Miss Marco in vocals though.
I've seen them perform this twice here in the states pre-covid. Such an epic performance. Sorry Marco had to depart. A great dynamic leaving the band. Worth travelling for to see live if you have to.
In this version, Troy plays in the intro an electric guitar with an e-bow. Making it sound more like a violin or cello. Also Richard Dawkins on stage. In the Tampere version, Troy plays pipes in the intro, and we'll timed fireworks.
Nightwish does have a backing track for there symphony but Tuomas the keyboard player and founder is known to travel to the U.K. and writes the music note by note for the London philharmonic orchestra. Floor has also lent her vocals backing track music. could you imagine touring with a full orchestra how expensive that would be?
I really enjoyed your reactions to thistrack, as already mentioned 2 other epic live Nightwish songs to check out, The Poet and the Pendulum (live at Wembley) & Ghost Love Score (live at Wacken). Both absolutely magnificent
YEs, you guys have heard that riff from Emppu before, it was of course ENTER SANDMAN, this was the part of the song, where the (Tuomas) band gave a nod to his influences in music from Dueling banjos and Brahms Lullaby to Enter Sandman and others .... Tuomas decided to get into metal after seeing Metallica in concert when he was in the states as a youth. Prior to that he was planning on starting a folk music band i believe.
The inspiration for Tuomas to write this masterpiece was Dawkins book of the same name. I am sure he contacted him, & birthed this with Dawkins as a participant. There is an interview with Dawkins about this before the concert. He was really nervous. Tuomas, & the band work with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, & their related choirs, for their music, created by Tuomas Halopanien. They don't use live orchestras. They are a tight group, their concerts mastered with long associated crews!
Sensory overload… Nightwish style. Kai in “Beast Mode” on the drum kit..as usual🤘 The band that can call it “The Greatest Show on Earth” and deliver on all points both artistic and philosophical …just an incredible adventure in songwriting and performance
Welcome to the 21th century Mozart, Beethoven and Bach, combined into one genius individual. I foresee future generations still enjoying this. Eternal quality and beauty. Tuomas is absolutely amazing. In that same league I place Arjen Lucassen from Ayreon and Steven Wilson from Porcupine Tree. Those three composers are at the very top.
The seamless blend of symphonic and rock is reminscent of the Moody Blues (if you're old enough.) Holopainen is the first composer to do it well in half a century.
If you more into prog metal, try "Ayreon - The Day That The World Breaks Down", a project by Dutch master-mind hippie Arjen Lucassen (2m07 tall..) who invited 11 metal singers for an awesome album. You may find some interesting and familiar faces.
Check out the live version at Tampere, Finland; will double-blow your mind; e.g. Fireworks representing Big Bang timed to music! Nightwish + Floor = The G.O.A.T.
Great job guys. There is another version of this song that is live from Tempere ,Finland. In this one there is actually a coordinated fireworks section to see. Maybe you will check it out.
They have impressive live performances, but rarely like in Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean, from Buenos Aires concert. That one was on superb level from each member, if you're interested.
Indeed, Devil And The Deep Dark Ocean - performed in Buenos Aires is a stellar performance. If you were impressed with Floor singing in this performance, you will again be impressed but her vocal ‘gymnastics’!
That is actually why I love Nightwish and for example Ayreon aswell, live. It is meant to be consumed fully, with all visual and audio. It is really theatrical in that sense. Love to be entertained that way. There are quite a few songs recorded that would entertain you this way.
what tight and awesome rhythm section that is nightwish is the quintescential top tier for Finnish heavy metal with the sounds and colors and its quite intellectually stimulating if the venue is big enough the light show and no one else does this kind of music quite at the production level that they can. They use sounds like whistles chimes and flutes mandolin and the welsh Uileen pipe that Troy plays very well well enough to impress the crap out of us but all these folks in this band are professional musicians all at the top of their game like a modern pink floyd which is quite a compliment
Tuomas Holopainen, on keyboards/composer/arranger/lyricist, had to shorten this Opus to make it physically possible for the band to play it live! Tuomas co-conducted the orchestra for the backing track - London Symphony Orchestra with Pip Williams and The London Metro Voices Choir....... Hey! For Halloween try their "Scaretale"!? edit: Floor sang "enter life" and "enter LUCA", Marko sang "enter Ionia".... Emppu on guitar does not sing - so OF COURSE he played the "Enter Sandman" riff!
Yes, Thomas is the main composer creativity behind Nightwish and if you guys like this version, I would highly suggest doing the Wembley version. It will knock your socks off I mean, absolutely gob smacked. And yes, floor is 6 foot one or 62 I believe and those little chills and goosebumps you get when you listen to her hit some of those high notes are what we all affectionately called floor gasms
There are two other epic masterpieces that are usually put with this one: Ghost Love Score (Wacken Live) and The Poet and the Pendulum (from this concert at Wembley). There is also an equal, but different live performance of this song at Tampere live. Someone comments on it below. It is outdoor and they hook up fireworks to Tuomas' keyboards in the intro and outro. If you want us all back, and subscribing, you react to these as well. ::grin::
Yeah....anything live from Nightwish is amazing. Romanticide, Storytime, and Ghost Love Score from Wacken 2013 are all amazing. I Want My Tears Back live in Argentina is an experience. Stargazers Live from Tampere. You really can't go wrong. Floor Jansen is indeed 6'1" tall, and likely 6'4" or taller in heels. She's a Valkyrie.
Enough Keyboards? You should check something from Ayreon Universe concert :) Ayreon is prog tho. For example the song "The day that the world breaks down" is 13 mins but it has 11 singers (of many you probably know) so you won't get bored as there's something new coming all the time. This one isn't in the Universe show, which does also have quite a few singers.
if no one has mentioned it, Floor stands over6 feet tall, and habitually wears 4 to 5 inch heels........Tuomas (the Metal Mozart) Holopainen has three Korg keyboards in that set.......he writes 95% of the band's music, and lyrics........a hundred years from now, this will played as Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven are performed and recorded today.......
If you would like to read the lyrics and the content and Then listen to the Tampere version you'll be blown away even more. Thank you. For a keyboard and guitarre battle, please listen to the great opener at Wembley Shoudder before the beautiful. The narrator is Sir Richard Dawkins, evolution biologist. He wrote the book The greatest show on earth.
Remember this is the final song of a 2 hour, 17 song set. And Floor was still killing it. as was everyone in the band.

If it interests you, you can check out all the Nightwish instrumentals. He is an exceptional composer. 🙏🏻🫶🏻❤️
Hi guys,
very good video reaction from you - I like it 🙂👍🤘
And then comes the fans shouting "Wrong live concert!, Tampere is the most epic one ever!"
Yes,It irks me
Great reaction! More Nightwish please!
That's the London Symphony Orchestra (or at least that's the orchestra I remember Tuomas working with) playing as a track.
Great reaction guys, if you haven't done it yet the poet and the pendelum is another epic song.
🤗🍒🤘🏻 well done guys
Luego podrían ver esta misma canción en la versión del concierto en Tampere, la puesta en escena es aún mejor.
I've seen them perform this twice here in the states pre-covid. Such an epic performance. Sorry Marco had to depart. A great dynamic leaving the band. Worth travelling for to see live if you have to.
I'm proud to be a member of one of the kindest fan armies in the world. Tuomas is Metal Mozart.
Shoemaker live....awesome
In this version, Troy plays in the intro an electric guitar with an e-bow. Making it sound more like a violin or cello. Also Richard Dawkins on stage. In the Tampere version, Troy plays pipes in the intro, and we'll timed fireworks.
Nightwish does have a backing track for there symphony but Tuomas the keyboard player and founder is known to travel to the U.K. and writes the music note by note for the London philharmonic orchestra. Floor has also lent her vocals backing track music. could you imagine touring with a full orchestra how expensive that would be?
P.S. The same concert has a song called Yours is an empty hope, where Floor growls I'm sure you'd like seeing another side to her vocals
And this is all live, can you believe it?! Sounds exactly like the studio recording insane!
I really enjoyed your reactions to thistrack, as already mentioned 2 other epic live Nightwish songs to check out, The Poet and the Pendulum (live at Wembley) & Ghost Love Score (live at Wacken). Both absolutely magnificent
Saw them at Wembly in 2022 great night out,,😎
YEs, you guys have heard that riff from Emppu before, it was of course ENTER SANDMAN, this was the part of the song, where the (Tuomas) band gave a nod to his influences in music from Dueling banjos and Brahms Lullaby to Enter Sandman and others ....
Tuomas decided to get into metal after seeing Metallica in concert when he was in the states as a youth. Prior to that he was planning on starting a folk music band i believe.
EPIC !!!!
Yay!!!
Nightwish is a dish best served LIVE. The intro is a slow burn for a reason. The solar system took some time to coalesce.
Ha, I have never experienced you guys before. I will be watching closely to see what you think.
Kai in “Beast Mode” on the drum kit..as usual🤘
The band that can call it “The Greatest Show on Earth” and deliver on all points both artistic and philosophical …just an incredible adventure in songwriting and performance
Championship Prog RABBITHOLE "AYREON" if you like this is a must. Greetings from the Netherlands !!!
This was the last song in a two hour concert...and she hits every note : )
The seamless blend of symphonic and rock is reminscent of the Moody Blues (if you're old enough.) Holopainen is the first composer to do it well in half a century.
IS THE EVOLUTION BABY......😉😉
Actually, the comment about it being reminiscent of "Dust in the Wind" was an interesting take, and now that I think about it I can see it. Nice!
@mattgraham2835 - the clue re Troy's pipes is the word "uilleann" - which is Irish for elbow and refers to the method of inflation. So NOT WELSH !
I'll just be here watching you guys watch them, crying and snotting like an idiot. Will see if I collect myself at the end of the video.
Don't worry about the keyboardist (Tuomas) getting dehydrated, he has a bottle of red wine tucked away under the keyboards 🤣
PS that was the 1st rock concert he had been to ..😎
There are two other epic masterpieces that are usually put with this one: Ghost Love Score (Wacken Live) and The Poet and the Pendulum (from this concert at Wembley). There is also an equal, but different live performance of this song at Tampere live. Someone comments on it below. It is outdoor and they hook up fireworks to Tuomas' keyboards in the intro and outro. If you want us all back, and subscribing, you react to these as well. ::grin::
The Uileann Pipes are pronounced "Ill-Unn". Love from Ireland!
Thanks man! Pls check The Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean Live in Buenos Aires!
Good one.
Go for Romanticide (Live at Wacken 2013) next. One pf their heavier songs..... 😁
Enough Keyboards? You should check something from Ayreon Universe concert :)
Ayreon is prog tho. For example the song "The day that the world breaks down" is 13 mins but it has 11 singers (of many you probably know) so you won't get bored as there's something new coming all the time. This one isn't in the Universe show, which does also have quite a few singers.
🤘🏼🇵🇪 Cuidado con Nightwish, una vez que empiezas no podrán parar 😅 les recomiendo The Poet and the pendulum, Ghost Love Score o Romantice 🤘🏼🤘🏼
🤘
I prefer the Tampere live performance, it's amazing!
if no one has mentioned it, Floor stands over6 feet tall, and habitually wears 4 to 5 inch heels........Tuomas (the Metal Mozart) Holopainen has three Korg keyboards in that set.......he writes 95% of the band's music, and lyrics........a hundred years from now, this will played as Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven are performed and recorded today.......
If you would like to read the lyrics and the content and Then listen to the Tampere version you'll be blown away even more. Thank you.
For a keyboard and guitarre battle, please listen to the great opener at Wembley
Shoudder before the beautiful.
The narrator is Sir Richard Dawkins, evolution biologist. He wrote the book The greatest show on earth.
You can check out the Swedish band Evergrey, amazing ❤
