The "galloping" that you spoke about is Steve Harris on bass. He's the founding member of Iron Maiden and the only one left from the very first 1975 line-up. And make no mistake - Maiden is _his_ band. He directs every element of their sound. He's the conductor to their orchestra. Everybody thinks of Bruce as being the leader because he's the frontman. But he wasn't their first singer (although they came on in leaps & bounds when he joined!) and it's always been Steve who calls the shots. 😉
The one regret so far is , I haven't seen Maiden live. Grew up with them in the 80's. These guys got in me into metal, then moved onto Megadeth & Metallica & the thrash scene

Lord Cardigan led the British cavalry against Russian forces during this battle on 25 October 1854. Lord Raglan had intended to send the Light Brigade to prevent the Russians from removing captured guns from overrun Turkish positions. However, there was miscommunication in the chain of command and the Light Brigade was instead sent on a suicide mission charging straight at heavy Russian artillery which cost the lives of around 300 British soldiers. Alfred Lord Tennyson wrote a poem to commemorate this disaster and he called it "The Charge of the Light Brigade". The bronze that the recaptured guns were made from was used to make the Victoria Cross, a military medal of the very highest order that was awarded "for valour" and designed by Queen Victoria herself. Very few of these have ever been awarded, even to this day. I've been a Maiden fan since hearing their debut album on cassette in 1980 when I was 10 years old. I've seen them live every time they've played in London, their home ground and mine, and they never disappoint. Up the Irons!!!

You guys know the first two records were not Bruce. It was Paul DiAnno. Bruce joined on third record Number of the Beast which was the late Clive Burr on drums. This was Nicko’s first record as drummer on Piece of Mind.
Don't forget Blaze Bayley later on. I like them both and various songs from their "eras" but the music they made with Bruce was during their peak. Strange World with Paul is still one of my favourite metal ballads and songs from them. Just blissful. Hope they guys will listen to it someday.

This was among the first albums I bought . I remember buying Piece of mind, Last in Line and I think Stay hungry when I was a kid. My all time favorite Maiden song is on this album called "Still life."

They were probably inspired by watching The Lone Ranger with its galloping them music. ('William Tell Overture' Italian Gioachino Rossini for the opera 'Guillaume Tell' in 1829) Everything sinks into the subconscious as kids and will eventually come out in songwriting. I can't think of any 'galloping' music before that piece.

If you like the singer’s voicce his name is Bruce Dickinson. He left Iron Maiden and made some great music. Check out his songs Arc Of Space and Man Of Sorrows. They are very different than this but I think you’ll enjoy them. ✌️❤️🤘

Ended up being the first day I smoked a joint and first time I heard Maidens album Killers. One of the best days of my youth. The best is you usually get duelling solos. FYI. Bruce does not sing on the first two albums. To me Paul Di’Anno is my favourite. He is more punk than theatrical.

Guys, if you haven't heard the album version of Alexander the Great you're really missing out. ;) But yeah, the Trooper was the first Maiden song I've heard and like it to this day. They have better songs though. :)
Love Maiden but they always get credit for duel guitar harmonies and galloping drums when groups like thin lizzy, Judas Priest, and UFO to name a few were doing it years before Maiden

The Trooper is great, but it's not even in my top 20 best Maiden songs. There are 3 or 4 better songs on this same album alone. That's how good their catalog is.
Speaking of "The Greats", after Iron Maiden, maybe it's time to get back to some Queen. A lot os suggestions to make, but i'll choose two: "Liar" (studio or Live at The Rainbow, 1974) for a heavy earlier Queen, and "One Year of Love", for a different side of the band that I think Ryan, specially, will enjoy.

Maiden was heavily influenced by UFO. Lights Out by UFO is one of the classic gallops. Lights Out off of Strangers In The Night is a must.

If you like the singer’s voicce his name is Bruce Dickinson. He left Iron Maiden and made some great music. Check out his songs Arc Of Space and Man Of Sorrows. They are very different than this but I think you’ll enjoy them. ✌️❤️🤘

One day in grade 11 the power was out when we got to school. Everyone turned and walked/drove away. Ended up being the first day I smoked a joint and first time I heard Maidens album Killers. One of the best days of my youth.

FYI. Bruce does not sing on the first two albums. To me Paul Di’Anno is my favourite. He is more punk than theatrical.

I just had an epiphany. I could have been a successful musician in the 80's if only I had bought some harlequin tights....🤦♂️
Love Maiden but they always get credit for duel guitar harmonies and galloping drums when groups like thin lizzy, Judas Priest, and UFO to name a few were doing it years before Maiden
And before them it was Wishbone Ash, KK Downing said he got the idea from them.
If you check out Rossini's William Tell Overture (finale 1829) uses that same galloping type of rhythm, which was used in the old Lone Ranger TV show (1949-1957)

The Trooper is great, but it's not even in my top 20 best Maiden songs. There are 3 or 4 better songs on this same album alone. That's how good their catalog is.

A lot os suggestions to make, but i'll choose two: "Liar" (studio or Live at The Rainbow, 1974) for a heavy earlier Queen, and "One Year of Love", for a different side of the band that I think Ryan, specially, will enjoy.
