I learned things man. I leaaarnnneed things - will have to watch again
I learned about Jesse from your 'Instagram story' video, Cody, I can't thank you enough for all you've introduced to the world of film making
Thank you so much for making this video! And your other videos. Some things I like/learned:
-I love how you break down your intros step by step. It's a huge learning moment so thank you!
-The biggest thing I learned from last year's video was the simplicity of using your body as a stabilizer and not needing a fancy gimbal to make good transitions.
-Another thing: Learning how color correcting and direction of camera whipping are huge in making successful transitions. How having a central subject (whether it's color or object) can give viewers a steady point of focus during the crazy whip-whip.
-I also love how you challenge us to be creative in our transitions and in our editing. There's a very apparent level of respect that you have for your viewers as artists/film makers and it shows when you challenge us like that, so thank you. (Which is why you're a good teacher!)
-I would have never guessed you filmed the transition of you sitting in your chair by yourself. That was a great surprise and example of how, i don't remember what you called it, masking?, can be effective and seamless.
Thank you! You're a wonderful and thorough teacher.
I don't know if this is something you're versed in teaching but I'd love to learn more about text editing in your videos?
Happy New Year! :)
It's just like a Christmas gift from you jess 🎅⛄
Maaan, you're crazy with it. Always fun to watch. Cutting together three clips using two lenses and different resolutions for one continuous shot? WOW. I The only thing I can input on is the last shot, if you have a Ronin-S or something like that, you could set up a tracking shot so you don't have to do all of the masking
Star wipe aaaaaaand cut ⭐️
OMG, the last transition, the one youre on your desk is just UNREAL, I watched frame by frame and I could not see it still.
I thoroughly enjoyed it. One of my buddies told me about this channel literally the day after I had a shoot with a planned in-camera transition. When I planned my shoot I was just considering motion. Something I didn't consider or watch for matching color. When I did my whip, I passed a very bright spot. When I meshed the 2 shots, it resulted in a distracting flicker during the transition. To solve it, I ended up pulling a still frame masking/blurring to cover the hot spot. Then I manually keyframed it to match the motion. The motion blur covered everything and no more flicker. Anyway kickass channel and nice work. Keep it up.
I love Jesse’s videos, the part at the end where he explained how he did the whip by himself was awesome since I’m usually by myself. My only thing is a lot of his videos feel like they are for folks with some experience more so than beginners. I have to watch a few times and research some things to understand since I’m like a baby bird in this field.
You articulate the point about following the camera motion very clearly. Thank you for explaining it in so much detail!
The last 2 minutes were gold for me, being a solo...everything.
I have been using whip transitions for a while now, but this video shows me how much more I can do with them. Oh you bet ya I’m going to be upping my game using these tricks. Thanks for making this vid Jesse!
18:30 MY GOD JESSE YOU WIZARD. Such a shiny nugget of gold. This one better blow up too! So so so good dude. 😱👏👏👏
I would dig a video on pacing and audience retention.
I don't always make it to the end of a 19 minute and 25 second video, but when I do, it's this one.
👍
Thanks my dude!
Videos like this make me so grateful for the internet
I'm sure many others have said this already, but Mr. Driftwood... my man... You are one of the most talented UA-camrs out there. From day 1 I knew that....
The way you explain and show things is so easy to assimilate, not quite often do you see advanced in depth tutorials that actually are so informative and clear.
Thanks, man! This is super helpful. Often I see videos of people outside doing the in-camera transitions, but they never take it to the editing software and actually do a play-by-play of what those shots look like in the editing software. It's not all in-camera, really, the post production of the movements you do in-camera is the key element, so I'm really glad you highlighted that post production part of it!
This is easily one of the best and most informative video on transitions on the internet.
JesseDriftwood and d4darious easily put the most effort into their videos. Amazing
And Make.Art.Now
Epic! cheers to your creative brilliance and noteworthy energy:) nice mask😊
man! love you bro! It”s my first time in...2,3...4,5,6 years when I watch a long video 19:20 min from the start til the end.
I love your funny style. I get courage doing this, filming myself watching you.
well done bro! And I really wish to work for you
this is filled with great tips. like using a tripod on push ins and pull outs and masking yourself in when shooting by yourself.
Just used some tips from the previous in-camera transition video yesterday while snowboarding, but I'll definitely be watching this over and over while I piece it all together. Thanks man, you're the bomb!
LOL, first 30 secs I was looking at the video date uploaded and thinking, 'haven't I seen this before!" Figured it out after that!!!! 😀
Hahaha yes! It worked!
I had the exact same thought... this looks so familiar.. check date...
haahaha me too
Thanks Jesse! You make those transitions look so easy. I'm working on it though...thx! I replayed 1:03 at .25 speed and still can't notice that transition where you filmed yourself. You just blew my mind! 😨😨😨
I use Blurs to help sell transitions. Either in camera focus pull blurs or Gaussian/Directional blurs in post. Like that Drone shot I would have Key framed some Gaussian blur onto (just a little) to help sell it. Or I will intentionally whack focus in camera then cross fade to the next shot out of focus to start.
Great video. Made me feel great that I just started implimenting a lot of these tips on my own over the years. Glad to see I'm thinking the same a someone who does it so well.
Ugh that whip transition was so extra and I LOVE IT .
I liked “the more you shoot, the more you know, the more you know, the more you grow. 🙌🏼
The way he says, "hello" at 1:04 is so smooth, it fits with the music so nicely. Just thought I would mention that.
That last effect of masking and filming yourself is brilliant! Well done!
How did I miss this. Watching the last few minutes over and over. I actually can't believe how far you've come since the Stories days, which isn't that long ago!
Love the videos and how you break them down to show the process!! Thank you especially for the encouragement to keep practicing!!
A+ for the Labyrinth coffee mug!! Another great video from you too Jesse! Looking forward to trying some of these things our myself in the near future!
Jesse, great video. Thank you for showing us all these tricks. The tip that stood out most would be keyframing the comor grade..that can really make a difference in certain situations..
Love how you use the entire world around you as a prop. 💪🏼 great video once again
That last tip is friggin gold! I didn't think about masking myself in! Thanks!
This video is full of amazing tips and tricks, but the extraordinary thing is the thought behind each shots 😮😮😮🤣🔝 Thanks ❤️
I'll apply this in my next Cinematic Video for sure! What a gift! Thanks Jess. You're the best!
The entire video was awesome and helpful a lot but the very last trick of moving the camera and keyframing yourself OH MY GOD THAT BLEW MY MIND!! You're a genius! I am a solo creator so tips like these are gold for me. Suggestion for a future video on a similar subject: how to do more things like this on your own - that'd be incredibly useful!
Learned a lot!!! Especially that tip of the end, masking yourself in and key framing it BRILLIANT I don’t know how I never thought of that
If you had a 3 hour podcast I would listen to it there is so much to learn from you that’s for the amazing content I hope you have the happiest of holidays, you’re great
Thanks for the follow up Jesse. Always love the helpful hints and tips. looking forward to more in the next year.
I really respect that you actually masked yourself for that shot and shot a 'clean shot 'of the exact same shot, well played sir, well played
When I think of transitions I think of you. Just like when I think of gimbal shots I think of Brandon Li. Love it. Thanks!
Masking yourself in just set the bar so high. So awesome! Killer video man and thank you for sharing your process
Going to have to watch this 10 times just under understand the genius transitions! Last video inspired us very much. Thank You! 😍
So good. Learned a ton. I love your approach to all of this. Thanks for making another vid after the last hit a mil! AWESOME! I can't wait to see what the next version is going to look like and what new skills you pick up along the way.
Those initial shots with the use of two lenses and marrying it into one shot!!! Very creative! Well done Jesse!
A true inspiration! You make me want to create period! Going to get my camera now! Thank you and Happy Christmas 🎄
Damn, that overlaying the clip without warp stabiliser, so simple and I have no idea how I never thought about that before, scrapped so many shots because of that
FINESSE! What a great word.
You are the finesse guy around.
Thank you man!! Great video!! What i like a lot of your lessons is not only the tecnical part which is fantastic but also the theorical!! What is in the viewers mind amazing!!!
Everything about you is so on point. I love your sense of humour, heck even your camera work makes me laugh a bit. Its great work, I hope I can be more like you in 2020!
I want to tell stories in so many different ways. I feel some important things is how you make story telling your own. That's what I really like about Jesse driftwood is he makes storytelling his own
Wow ! This was full of useful informations I'm eager to put into practice. Most of them based on knowledge I already had on software techniques (keyframe, masking and stuff), but I had no clues I could use em this way... Thank you for this awesome christmas gift.
This one is even better than the one from last year!!! Happy new year Jesse👏🏽
This was excellent! I've got to try that masking thing. Thanks 😊
That bag transition is sick! So smooth👏👏👏👊😎
Thanks for these wonderful tips, Jesse! Let the passion burn 🥽🏂❄
my heart is all a flutter. Love your work. Thank you for sharing!
Love this Jesse. Thanks so much for making it. I also love a two frame dissolve.
Best video I've watched today
This is wonderful! Thank you for making such detailed videos! I hope you continue to do so!
DUDE. SUPER TALENTED. 👊🏻🙌🏻 Surprised you don’t have a million subs already. Keep at it man!
Can’t wait to start applying some of these editing techniques toward some transitions!
Thank you Jesse your a beast!
Dude, you are a master at your craft, thanks for sharing your tools.
the master returns!
with a vengeance.
Great video Jesse, thanks for sharing! Learned so much and definitely have to watch it over and over for all the details you put in. Have a great start for 2020!
in addition to learning all the new transitions, you inspire me buddy, and that is something that i search for everyday!!
you're just the gift that keeps on giving, jesse lol very excited to test out the transitions and all these tips for the next time i travel!
Love it 😊 its in the little details who nobody expects... wiping keyframing yourself... 😂 i would never thought about this. I did it with combine edit transitions & in camera wipe-transition so fast that nobody will notice 😂😂😂 thank you 😍
Classic Jesse 👌🏻
classic Jesse ;)
claaaaaassic Jesse
Hands down i think i like this video more than very most of the vids petermckinnon is doing at the moment.
Great content!
Great tips...very well explained! It's great to see the thought process behind each transition.
Keyframing colour correction is the best idea! As noobie film maker/vlogger/try harder, these videos are so damn helpful!
Turned out super cool. I must say as well that keyframes has changed my life. 🙌🏽😄
🤯 Things I learned: Being creative and thinking outside the box. Great video
I learned I need to watch you more and practice these moves. AND, I enjoyed your story block edit as well. I’ll be sure to use your link! Thanks Jesse, great work!
I saw you last transition video and it was great and this one is equally great. Now I just have to start creating.
As always Jesse delivered another awesome video. The "I ordered it on the internet" moment literally made me LOL. so good
😂😂😂😂
Awesome video, so many useful information! And I love how the bag got stuck on the middle shelf when you threw it hahahaha
Jesse, I just want to tell you one thing, I love You. Keep making more videos on techniques you use for film making there's a lot to learn from you 🇮🇳❤️
You Sir, are a talented individual! Thank you for sharing, this is going to be a goto resource for me.
I love this video like the rest of your videos
But that shure sm7b sound be like 🤤🤤🤤

Dude you are a king!
I learn a lot maaan! your videos are always fully charged with creativity and great techniques!!
Jessee does the best transitions. Period 🤘
That whip transition filmed of yourself by yourself is amazing. Never thought of that.
🤯 so much info in this video. Will have to watch it a few times. Thank you so much for the Christmas gift 🎁
my morning just got more cinematic thank you
Hey congrats! Your videos are really good, thanks for sharing with us your knowledge. Like your sense of humor which adds soemething nice to the final product 😃👍🏽
I mean.... damn! Its an awesome edit. But the actual effort that went into it was so much more to appreciate.
Friken LEGEND! That last part of the video showing how to do a transition when you are filming by yourself 👌👌👌👌
This is now my favorite video on UA-cam
Wow, great video, love the entertainment value and how good of a teacher you are.
I'd love to wach all of your old stories to see your progression over time. Cheers from Barcelona. :)
This is a great breakdown!
TBH I’ve been shooting stories and b-roll since ‘96. I learned about in camera transitions from some great shooters in the field. This was before NLE so we had to get creative. Glad to see your emphasis on thinking through and planning the next shot!
For future videos I’d love to see you thinking through how to apply this to storytelling.
Great job. Looking forward to showing this to my students.
Hey Brian! I actually have a course online thats exactly that! Short form story telling. Obviously no pressure to buy it but just thought I'd give you a heads up!
*edit* also thank you!!
@@JesseDriftwood thanks! Love the energy and will check it out! There are a bunch of "dinosaur" news shooters that have really great b-roll skills and I'd love to see them get into the YT market and help vlogging and other storytelling improve.
thanks for making time for this! questions answered! a bit of a problem for me was the story. but who knows - thanks for giving us the opportunity to watch this! you can never be perfect
Just discovered your channel. Love your creativity and how you breakdown each steps.
Subscribed and looking forward to watching more of your videos.
I learned so much! Thanks, I really enjoy your transitions and I look forward to trying my hand at them
You've given me a lot to think about. I've switched to smaller 360 cams for alot of my B roll footage. And the in app editing can make transitions line this SOOOO easy. Not quite as much depth...but it's fast moving B roll lol.
Happy Christmas Jesse. Really useful. Thank you!
