    Thank you for making this video. Because of this I actually learned to loom knit during 2020, and have been improving my skills ever since. Not only did I discover a new hobby, but it also helped me with my anxiety. Again, thank you for this inspiring video.

    I just lucked up on a spinning wheel, so I'm looking for some ways to use yarn. I have read several Kindle books on this and couldn't quite get the idea from them despite decent picture and then were just a repeating stitch. Jocelyn, your video is just what I needed. You are completely clear and you go into enough detail about how to do the pattern. The repetition is just what I needed to get the idea! The printed directions below will help me remember exactly what to do...they'll help me keep track without having to go back to watch the video again...I think printed directions with the video is the way to go. Thanks so much to you and to Joyce Weber! Because of your efforts, I think I can dive right in and make a blanket like this!

    I just HAD to comment!! You are a NATURAL!!! An awesome teacher! Making a video on You Tube is not so simple!! I know you did a terrific job as you explained very very well spoke very clearly and provided the information to allow and encourage others to grab a loom and create!! You chose the KB "S" loom or afghan loom which is not easy to many loomers yet your video made it very easy!!!! I have been a loom knitter fir many years. I hope you continue to make videos using any loom you choose as you truly are a NATURAL at teaching!!
    Thank you!!! I also thought how nice of you to lay out in your description the steps.
    To make it even nicer was the very kind person who wrote up the pattern in their comment so others who may need written pattern/direction can c,c,p then print it out to have as well as the video!! Lovely!! When will you make another video? Please do, you ae providing such a great gift to people. Excellent!! Please feel free to contact me if you need anything at all.🤗👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

      sheryl katz this comment just MADE MY DAY! Thank you for your kind words of encouragement. I’ve been poking around at ideas for a new pattern for a few months, but as a professional musician and full time homeschooling mom, it can be difficult to find the time! But your comment inspired me to get back on the horse and keep working at my idea until I find something that works. Best wishes!

    Thank you for your clear, logical, concise instructions on making this afghan. No cats, cell phones, forgotten items or other distractions. The repetitions were just enough to make the pattern clear or give time to jot each row down. Watching your work allowed me to see I’ve been wrapping too tightly, hence my problems with this loom. Great oral and visual lesson.

      I agree, she's explaining it in great detail, but did not stall or talk too fast, and even created a visual example before she started. This was well made for someone who haven't done this before, but didn't take too long to get to the point for those who have(bonus:backrground music is well balance with the audio). Brava

      Yes, I agree! Wow! This video is excellent! Can't wait to get a loom and already am planning an afghan for my sister's Christmas gift this year!
      It's soo hard to find a good teacher! And, I confess, repetitive fake music backgrounds, excessive talking, long nails, multiple rings, telephones, and animals (I love them, but NOT in a "teaching video, please"!) only inhibit the instruction process and irritate me no end!
      I love Denise's superb Loomahat videos, and this one ranks right up there with hers!

      @@kokopaleo Well it didnt start off too well. Mainly talking about price at this point. I found a great yarn called Hudson's Bay 6 super bulky (or chunky) by Lionbrand. Each skein was only 89 yrds, I'd need about 25 skeins. At $8 CAD I thought it to be a bit expensive at this stage. So decided to combine 3 strands of different colours of Bernat premium 4 medium (chocolate tweed, aran tweed and cafe au lait). I figure I only need 15 skeins total at $4/skein. Crossing my fingers it works!!!

    • @kokopaleo
      @kokopaleo  5 років тому +1

      Denis Essiambre I hope so too! I think the total cost of my yarn may have been close to $80. But I figure this is an heirloom - something I will use forever until I pass it on to children or grandchildren. The real “cost” is all the hours it takes from start to finish. But it’s totally worth it! The blanket is both warm and heavy. Two things that provide great comfort!

    • @DenisEssiambre
      @DenisEssiambre 5 років тому +1

      @@kokopaleo Mine will come to about $60. It's my first one so I'm happy with that. My initial Lion Brand would have been over $200. I'll save that for a future blanket when I have more experience. I know all about comfort and warmth as I am also a quilter and have made tons of those. I felt like I needed a new hobby.

      Liz Brown I hope to make more! These blankets take a very long time to make, and with my other responsibilities in life, I usually have time to do about 1 per year. But I'm due to start another one soon!

    I know this video was a couple of years ago, but just found it and I love it. I've done the round and square looms and created an afghan connecting each round and/or square. The one issue that I had when I knitted which I didn't see a sample in this video is, "what is the cleanest / easiest way to add the new yarn when the ball you had runs low? I am definitely one of those that starts out with my afghan straight and then 3' down I notice I became more relaxed. Doing the loom definitely helps prevent that. Thank you.

      Sorry for my late reply to this. I know a lot of folks weave in a new skein slowly, but I’m always too nervous about things coming unraveled. I literally tie the ends together. It’s not what you’re “supposed to do” but it gives me peace of mind.

    I started this and it looks beautiful and I’m ready to cast off. I’ve noticed that where I started has a beautiful scalloped edge. But in the video that doesn’t seem to be addressed. It’s just a basic cast off. Is there any way the blanket can begin and end with a scalloped edge?

    I have to tell you I have started this afghan and am loving it. This is a great beginners afghan. I was starting to loose interest from being frustrated from trying by myself. Other patterns in books were so confusing. But now I am loving it. Thanks again so much. Hope you do another one for beginners

      Barbara Cash thank you so much for your kind words! This was my first time making any kind of UA-cam video, and I’m so glad it helped you. I’m working on a new pattern now, but it usually takes me a few months to make a blanket. Hopefully I’ll have a new video ready by the time you finish knitting your afghan!

      My daughter gave me a loom for Christmas last year. I’m watching your video and preparing my loom with marking. Im hoping I can do it! Your instructions seem awesome. I looked at the instructions with the loom and laughed. Then I thought I’ll just try looking on here. Thank you so much 🤞🏻

    How do I keep tension without going too tight? Got all the way to begin row 1, & wouldn't go over peg. Grrrrr. Like the comment on having brain/cognitive issues, & left hand dexterity issues due to stroke. You do demonstrate exceedingly well.

    Quick Question: What a totally awesome video!!! Thank you so much. It was concise and easy to follow - even though I had to rewind 10 or 12 times to get the exact pattern. I bought this loom and LOTS of Red Heart Super Saver yarn, Medium 4. Should I double the yarn for this afghan????

    Well I'm super nervous! Don't even know how to knit! I am still finishing casting on and like the idea of marking with fingernail polish.

    Question: With the final blanket, do you have trouble with the top and bottom rolling or did you make a "cuff" - I think that's what it's called... I'm a newbie. Thank you so much for this video. I sure hope you make more!!

    Do you keep a counter of some kind to keep track of your rows? Thank you for such great, clear instructing. You're a keeper!❤

      What I do with this pattern since it changes row to row is I divide a piece of paper into four sections writing row 1 row 2 row3 and row 4 in the sections. I then make a tally mark every row in the respective section. Easier for me that way than a traditional row counter

    Hello, thank you for this great video!
    Unfortunately I have a different brand of this figure 8 type of loom. My loom only has 138 pegs on it. The pegs are approx 3/4 " apart from each other. Will it still be possible to make this afghan? If so, what changes need to be made? Thank you for any help with this, as I am new to loom knitting.

    I LOVE this video! I am a first time knitter, and watching your video, made a nice blanket for my dog! He loves it! I am now making a mixed light and dark blue “I want to make a blankie yarn” to knit a blanket on the loom for my son, using your same pattern. On my last completed blanket, there ended up being many excess hanging loops throughout most of the blanket. I would love to avoid what ever mistake I was making to cause these loops from happening again on my next blanket. Are there any suggestions you have for me? Thank you again for this wonderful tutorial video!

    This is such a beautiful stitch! May I ask how long it took you to make this blanket? I want to start it but i am afraid it may take me too long to possibly finish in a timely manner
