You have to be pretty smart to be the best SF player so this lack of foresight is truly remarkable. If you win a lot, you fail to prove your point. If you lose a lot, you won't be able to prove that you deserved any of the wins you might have gotten with a better character.
Watching this made me realize that a whole bunch of the Modern characters lose their overheads. Lily, Marisa (though she still has it as part of Scutum), season 1 Zangief...
@@HellecticMojo but u need the cmd nornmal overhead to get a drive rush combo off of it, which is a p important way of opening ppl up (but its good to give 1 button reversals a downside like that)
Another benefit charge characters like Blanka and Honda get in Modern is that you can buffer charge moves without losing charge. E.g. Modern Honda can do 5M (St MP) and buffer Headbutt with the SP button without letting go 4. It also works as an OS with OD Headbutt cause you can mash it and it'll come out during fake block strings. You can't mash OD headbutt in Classic because you lose the charge after the first attempt. That being said, I think Honda is just slighty weaker in Modern because you lose some important stuff, but Blanka just seems way worse in Modern.
Honda loses a lot less (mostly just his overhead stomp, but unlike Blanka it's still in his TC so it's not 100% gone), but also gains a lot more since 1 button supers makes his level 2 a viable anti-fireball tool, which is huge for his defense.
As a Modern Random player, getting Blanka is always a good time. You just press buttons and be unpredictable. Edit: If anyone is curious, Supercombo's SF6 wiki will have a breakdown of what Modern loses for each character on the page for the character.

Another tiny benefit: you don't lose your charge after an attempt of OD upperball. Like usually if you OS the OD upperball after an 2MK drive rush, as a charge character you lose the charge if the opponent does a block string, but in modern you can keep your charge.
And remember, Classic only became an option because some of the devs were "old players" and the new control scheme confused them. When you see characters like this, it really makes ya wonder...

this is probably him getting support from modern haters and lovers at the same time, there is no other way he thought this would prove how bad modern is
The impliances of making modern viable the the highest level would be looking at truly the same bunch of moves and everyone playing the safest way possible because of the supers, characters having sauce that doesn't matter because a simpler controller is optimal, and complicating the scheme for new players to understand even more to the point that classic is easier to play. It could be bad for viewers, current players, and new players so I disagree what he's standing for. Exceptional blanka however, truly an amazing player
The reduction in options makes decision making easier. You turn a situation from "which normal is appropriate at this range" into "will my one normal hit." This leaves so much mental room for everything else. Same with confirms. Modern's auto confirms just take a huge load off your mental stack. The universal mechanics in this game are strong enough to fill most gaps. Im surprised more people arent playing modern. It completely changes the way your opponent has to play against you.

There's another small benefit to modern controls on charge characters. Classic Blanka loses downcharge whenever he tries to use OD upball, but modern can attempt it without losing charge (you just hold down back and mash the auto+special buttons). This might be helpful if you're using an OD move to cut through pressure strings. If you don't know where the gaps in the strings are, you might attempt an OD reversal while you're still in block stun and lose your chance to use the move until you get charge again. Modern charge characters can just mash the reversal until the first available moment.
