As someone who does not play Street Fighter but likes watching it, it's always very strange to me that every single time since SF4, Capcom's been like "alright, we've removed throw loops! they were kinda lame to watch!" and then in the 1.0 of the next game they're back and then a couple years later it's "alright, we've removed throw loops! they were kinda lame to watch!" again.
My hard read for how they're going to nerf Zangief is slowing down SPD. Making it 7 frame startup instead of 5. Making it harder to frame trap into, removing punishes and removing it as a punish on drive reversal.

Doesn't address WHY Gief is primarily broken though. He literally has to do nothing since the reward on SPD is so obscenely weighed in his favor. He has to touch you like 3 times on average to win and every other character has to touch you like 7-8 times. He can literally kill you TWICE almost by the time Manon even gets 5 medals. WTF is that? And Manons neutral is shit and everything she does is a risk.
Jamie is going to get significant buffs which will make him notably better. It won't change the fundamental fact that he needs to give up oki 3 times in a 3 touch game, and suffer getting in against anyone with a fireball. This will happen 2-3 more times until we suddenly realize he's flown under the radar and turned into a complete monster but we were all conditioned to not even worry about him.
I think the reason Chun-li got dropped is because of a few main things. 1. Chun-li was largely a counterpick for Luke in the previous season, so because Luke fell off there's less incentive to invest in her. She still does fine against the other top tiers but doesn't have that favourable Luke matchup anymore to boost her. 2. She is THE footsy character of SF6 who has largely had her spot taken by Ed imo. 3. Akuma, she fucking hates Akuma lol.
I play both chun li and guile and I would say that there is no good reason to play chun li in season 2. She doesn't bring anything broken to the table but she is in general a very strong character but "too honest". Her tool set is complete and can deal with every matchup but why should you work soo hard with her when other unga characters exist like ken bison and akuma. And yeah she is completely replaced by ED. Ed has the same strength of buttons but all of them are cancelable and he plays the meta much better than her
I just hope they fix Chun Li bugs, not even buff her. Make her lvl 2 and lvl 3 not randomly drop during juggles Make her lightning legs and lvl 2 have forward momentum to make them possible to combo after hitting extended hurtboxes Improve the hitboxes on all versions of Tensho Kicks, it gets smocked by divekicks and Bison's stomps Let her cancel her regular fireball into lvl 3, I don't really know why she can't do it
No matter what fighting game Akuma is in, he'll always be treated as a DLC character even if he's in a base roster like in Street Fighter IV and Tekken 7

The system change with Drive Rush is like to see is getting hit during a Rush to trigger Punish Counter state. Currently trades in DR are still in the rusher’s favor and you can usually connect a light still. This change would make it more even on trade and shift the risk/reward away from DR. Re: sensible Manon buffs, I’d love to see Tomoé Derrière juggle after OD Rond-Point for side switching without using super. Many characters have easy side switch combos, currently I think the only option for Manon is SA1 Arabesque. Second variant of OD Manège Doré. Currently OD MD has the range of light at the speed of medium. An alternate OD version with the speed of hard and the range of medium would significantly improve Manon’s ability to punish Drive Reversal (currently she can only use hard MD at point blank range and LK further away, since her mediums are 7F startup. Both Zangief and Lily can just use their command grabs at respective strengths, but Manon often can’t. Pie-in-the-sky wish: Light Renversé to combo after mediums. Having to spend bar to land Renversé outside of medium punish counter really hinders her game plan. It would open combo routes like PC LP, MP XX Renversé meterless.
As a Gief/Chun main, she has something similar to Marisa/Blanka syndrome. Where she is way harder to pilot and gets less returns than compared to Bison or even Deejay. She's still very strong but why take all those risks when you can just be a sicisor or sonic man?

It's clear from the insight we've gotten into this games production that we're not gonna get outfits every month or maybe even every year. If they're quality unlike SF5 I'm fine with it.

Yeah giefs strength is entirely a construct of the current meta. If the next patch doesnt even touch gief it could still trash his performance just by buffing the currently weak characters he struggles against.

Idk about Ed, he’s probably the best designed character in the game. Minor levels aren’t good with him because of lvl2 and footsies but high level players are cracked with him because they know his potential, he probably has the biggest skill ceiling in the game (slightly behind Dhalsim) so I think maybe slap in the wrist, Ed in SF5 was also cracked too remember and it’s Luke syndrome, he’s the next generation of Street Fighter so he’s definitely not going to be bad after the balance change.
I predict Kimberly will go unchanged. She just has that vibe to be one of those niche characters that every season people will say is secretly underrated but she’ll never actually be good because a strong Kimberly tool kit would be too obnoxious to play against. She’ll keep getting small "we did something" buffs until in the final year of the game she scratches the top 10. But by then every Kim player has moved to Mai or Ibuki.

As an Ed main I’ve largely accepted he’ll be getting taken out back and shot next patch, but I’m honestly not sure what they’ll even do? Aside from level 2 meter gain/damage scaling and maybe flicker what can they touch about the character? His biggest strengths imo (aside from his ability to space via flicker/his kicking normals) are that he has great oki setups off most knockdowns and that he uses flicker/kill rush as combo-extenders so he doesn’t have to burn too much meter to drive rush cancel like many other characters. His core kit just benefits from the system mechanics super well and I’m not sure what they could even do to weaken that without making some major changes.
I really dont feel like eds in too much danager, hes gonna get sometjing ofc, but he seems to be universally regarded as one of the best sf6 designs, so surely theyd keep him relevent no?
I knew when the consensus of "UHh. Terry kinda sucks." showed up in Japan that Capcom was rushing to their offices to prepare one of the craziest buff lists we've ever seen for a single character. I can't wait for all characters to get a new move and Terry's new move is just Max-Mode from KOF where he gets to do enhanced supers for unscaled damage.
12:47 I feel like the best buffs Marissa can get are Bison Nerfs. Bison's doing to Marissa what Luke did to every single shoto except Ken in Street Fighter 5: He just kinda does everything Marissa does but better. Marissa was seeing *some* play until Bison came out and made her obsolete, now she's basically gone.

This is true for a number of characters. Bison either invalidates by being a better version of them, or by being a hard matchup check who's easy to play and common to run into.
I'm so glad I picked Juri as a main because she's in the perfect spot for balance. She's good enough to put in work but not so busted that anyone pays attention.
I wouldn't be surprised if Capcom approached balance changes like this -_-. No matter what they do hopefully they started dropping a few more costume packs and stages.
Real Talk : If Luke is going to be the new , younger Ryu , they MUST change his appearance on their marketing material . Dude looks like an older Popeye the Sailor on the main "box art" for SF6 , but his design in the game is good . He needs to be perceived a bit "fresh faced" or it won't work like they want it to .
I cheered when you said ed Call me crazy but that much stage control with that little risk doesn't make sense to me If they nerf Ed and bison the game will be perfect. Edit - I agree on manons strength but I don't expect buffs. If you look at the characters you don't expect to get buffs, and I agree, I think manon fits more with them.
As a manon player, I don't think she is like bottom 5 or anything abysmal, but definitely still a bit on the weak side. In saying that, she really only needs a few little buffs, like less pushback on her 4HP. Maybe a 6-frame medium punch, and probably like one other little thing. Though I fully expect them to completely kill gief, to which lily or manon are buffed to take his place.
I think Honda will get 2 changes: SA2 full corner carry and enhanced hands will get its increased scaling lowered. Maybe clap will have a bigger hitbox. Nothing too monumental for the average Hondoid masher
If they nerf Zangief like in old game with multiple patches not gonna even try playing the game again;big dude optimal dmg into sa3 is lower than bipson and most of the shoto.They kept nerfing his dmg when he got shit oki already seriously.
i was never really on that gief top 5 train but dude we got meterless 3k damage into looping pressure in the corner, the headbutt was scarier than the grab plus ex lariat is pretty good oki actually, ive been using it more recently and it works rather well
I can explain why every Chun player dropped Chun: Because she's bad and Akuma, Ed, Cammy, and Bison do everything she wants to do 10x better. Hope that helps!
She is probably outside of the top 10, and some characters inside of the top 10 do most of what she does better or easier. And the best Chuns are in Japan so she can't have a moment like Ryu.
I legitimately thought all of the "Zangief is top tier" people were joking. Finding out there are people who actually think Gief is one of the better characters feels kinda like finding out there are people who unironically think the earth is flat lol
I see Ed getting minor nerfs but a fair amount of buffs. yeah there are alot of pro's who are good with him but i don't see that turning into a huge nerf overall especially since those players have almost always been amazing players for a long time now and nothing about Ed really screams overpowered that would justify big nerfs. If Rashid can still be allowed his LVL2 nonsense then i dont see Ed players having to worry too much.
Ryu is going to get buffed for two reasons. Number one because they realize the fans don't like Luke as the new main character and 2 they know they should have went back after all the characters were done and balanced redone to match the rest of the cast. So all of these buffs are the balances where you should have gotten after the cast was finalized and developed.
I just want Akuma to get nerfed so I can focus on him alone instead of juggling him and my pocket Ryu just to feel a sense of accomplishment when I win. I know that Akuma will always be seen as a dishonorable pick no matter how much they nerf him since his reputation has been built throughout his entire existence, but he'd at least feel more rewarding to play.
I will love you forever if you are right about Ryu, but I don't even know what to buff. He feels good now. Maybe the biggest Ryu buffs would be Akuma, Bison, Guile, Ed nerfs. And boy do we need those.....

Could definitely see him becoming a a upper B tier character just due to mastery and just the right changes to unlock those strong aspects of him to really shine in a a way that will make people think "oh i guess this character is fairly strong now actually, when did that happen?"

Ed is a problem: bores me to tears.
I was hoping there were tiers for "Buffs/Nerfs but the wrong ones", where Broski forecasts Marisa's Crouching Medium Kick does 40 more damage and Dhalsim's Back Teleport was made 2 frames slower.
As an Ed main I’ve largely accepted he’ll be getting taken out back and shot next patch, but I’m honestly not sure what they’ll even do? Aside from level 2 meter gain/damage scaling and maybe flicker what can they touch about the character?
His biggest strengths imo (aside from his ability to space via flicker/his kicking normals) are that he has great oki setups off most knockdowns and that he uses flicker/kill rush as combo-extenders so he doesn’t have to burn too much meter to drive rush cancel like many other characters. His core kit just benefits from the system mechanics super well and I’m not sure what they could even do to weaken that without making some major changes.
I really dont feel like eds in too much danager, hes gonna get sometjing ofc, but he seems to be universally regarded as one of the best sf6 designs, so surely theyd keep him relevent no?
I knew when the consensus of "UHh. Terry kinda sucks." showed up in Japan that Capcom was rushing to their offices to prepare one of the craziest buff lists we've ever seen for a single character.
I can't wait for all characters to get a new move and Terry's new move is just Max-Mode from KOF where he gets to do enhanced supers for unscaled damage.
12:47 I feel like the best buffs Marissa can get are Bison Nerfs. Bison's doing to Marissa what Luke did to every single shoto except Ken in Street Fighter 5: He just kinda does everything Marissa does but better. Marissa was seeing *some* play until Bison came out and made her obsolete, now she's basically gone.

Bison getting gutted will still just put her at Honda tier. She's godawful to play.
This is true for a number of characters. Bison either invalidates by being a better version of them, or by being a hard matchup check who's easy to play and common to run into.

Real Talk : If Luke is going to be the new , younger Ryu , they MUST change his appearance on their marketing material . Dude looks like an older Popeye the Sailor on the main "box art" for SF6 , but his design in the game is good . He needs to be perceived a bit "fresh faced" or it won't work like they want it to .

Edit - I agree on manons strength but I don't expect buffs. If you look at the characters you don't expect to get buffs, and I agree, I think manon fits more with them.

As a manon player, I don't think she is like bottom 5 or anything abysmal, but definitely still a bit on the weak side. In saying that, she really only needs a few little buffs, like less pushback on her 4HP. Maybe a 6-frame medium punch, and probably like one other little thing. Though I fully expect them to completely kill gief, to which lily or manon are buffed to take his place.

I think Honda will get 2 changes: SA2 full corner carry and enhanced hands will get its increased scaling lowered. Maybe clap will have a bigger hitbox. Nothing too monumental for the average Hondoid masher

It isn't surprising the gief nerf, Capcom nerf based on japenese top player feedback and Japan has a very weird view of what is balance, etc.
If they nerf Zangief like in old game with multiple patches not gonna even try playing the game again;big dude optimal dmg into sa3 is lower than bipson and most of the shoto.They kept nerfing his dmg when he got shit oki already seriously.
i was never really on that gief top 5 train but dude we got meterless 3k damage into looping pressure in the corner, the headbutt was scarier than the grab
plus ex lariat is pretty good oki actually, ive been using it more recently and it works rather well

She is probably outside of the top 10, and some characters inside of the top 10 do most of what she does better or easier. And the best Chuns are in Japan so she can't have a moment like Ryu.

I see Ed getting minor nerfs but a fair amount of buffs.
yeah there are alot of pro's who are good with him but i don't see that turning into a huge nerf overall especially since those players have almost always been amazing players for a long time now and nothing about Ed really screams overpowered that would justify big nerfs. If Rashid can still be allowed his LVL2 nonsense then i dont see Ed players having to worry too much.

Ryu is going to get buffed for two reasons. Number one because they realize the fans don't like Luke as the new main character and 2 they know they should have went back after all the characters were done and balanced redone to match the rest of the cast. So all of these buffs are the balances where you should have gotten after the cast was finalized and developed.
I just want Akuma to get nerfed so I can focus on him alone instead of juggling him and my pocket Ryu just to feel a sense of accomplishment when I win. I know that Akuma will always be seen as a dishonorable pick no matter how much they nerf him since his reputation has been built throughout his entire existence, but he'd at least feel more rewarding to play.
I really think they are gonna make drive rush punish counter state instead of counter hit.
