    So lovely to see you again. Love your knits, patterns and future knits. I was also delighted to hear your Mother had been to Cape Town and had brought back yarn for you. I was privileged to attend The Wool and Yarn Festival in the Karoo, where I met Adelle and did her advanced knitting course, what a delightful lady, so full of life and her stand was so colourfull. Karen of Miss La Motte is my favorite South African Dyer. Cowgirl Blues is also a favorite. As you have probably guessed, I am "proudly south african" and love to support out local dyers, but must confess to being intrigued by all the beautiful yarn bases available in the UK, USA and Europe. Please hurry with your new shawl pattern in crochet and knitting, I cant wait to get it on my needles. Thank you. From Bunny in Hillcrest South Africa.

    Your accounts that give a window into your relationship with your mother and her travels are positively inspiring. Having lost my mom fairly recently, and having daughters on the brink on independence, I’m thinking a lot about nurturing our relationships. It’s lovely to hear your stories.

    As everyone else is saying, it is wonderful to see you here again! I love the backdrop of your wall of shawls, and definitely would like to hear more about the latest additions. I am currently working on The Article, from Kate Davies (and I am using the Yakkety Yak yarn I purchased at Ginger Twist a couple of years ago). The poem at the end was beautiful. I love the card at the beginning and the poem at the end. Thank you for this lovely gift of your time!

    It's so great to see you, I've missed you! I'd love to see a Chapter 3 of your shawl wall. You can stabilize that pom pom on your beret by threading the two ends to the inside and through two holes of a larger button that sits inside. Then you can just tie a simple knot and a bow, and remove easily for washing the hat.

    I'm wearing my weekender today! I also had the same fits and starts with matching the faux seem with the ribbing but ended up just going with the pattern as-written. Yours looks so neat! I ended up adding additional seaming around the neckline too, because the neck opening was so large and stretched even more with wear. I did some mods to the sleeves too to make them narrower. I'm excited to see if you make other modifications along the way!

      I was looking again at the pattern photos and she has the slipped stitches line up with a knit column in the rib. But I could not for the life of me figure out the pattern instructions to get the same positioning!

If you can do a granny square you can do it all. UA-cam will help too. You could always do a trial swatch for practice first 😬 Good luck!

    I do a lot of knitting but have recently started to experience pain in my 'throwing' arm and neck. Wondering whether to change my technique or not knit so much! Currently working on the Marie Wallin Yell cardigan and Caitlin Hunter Alpine Bloom. I want to make the Erika Knight cardigan your mum knitted last year with the colour work patches. All 4 ply, so a lot of knitting. Love your channel.

    Don't worry about doing any crocheting from here on in. Once you have made granny squares, understand how the stitches work and what makes a corner, and can recognise front from back, you can do any crocheting, especially since you can understand knitting patterns. I started out making a granny square as a small child, and after that, I could do anything kn crocheting. Really, the rest is just more of the same with slight variations, and once you do each variation, you will wonder what you were nervous about.

    I find it works really well to use a large, gigantic?, snap fastener for attaching the pompom. I stitch the male half to the pompom ( heavyweight sewing thread) and the female half to the hat top.
    It makes the pompom less wobbly and allows it to be readily removed for washing...or switched off if so inclined.

    I just tried the braid yesterday, on the sleeve of my seaglass sweater. I undid it because of the bulk. But I read someone's comment about dropping a strand every now and then, and it might be a good idea. But so far I have grabbed my darning needle and weaved in the ends that were disturbing me, the old fashion way...

    The Magic Word reminds me of Mad Libs we used to play as kids. the book was set up the same way, but the person choosing the noun, verb, adjective, etc doesn't have any context. The other person just tells them what sort of word to choose and records the answers. As a child, a lot of them came out really funny.

    Hello Amy! This was a very entertaining episode with lots of wooly goodness! 😊 I don't know why Jackie chose that name for that shrug, in Germany it would be considered a wee bit offensive: Bloedel ....Blödel.... translated it means stupid, jerk, silly, dumb..... ???? Please, as a native English speaker, kann you give me a better meaning to name the Bloedel Shrug?

    • @AmyPalko
      @AmyPalko  4 місяці тому

      So it’s referencing the Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island in the US. A completely different cultural reference point.
