Yes, it is hard to believe that true Christians could turn a blind eye to so much injustice in society. But, Christians are only human, and make mistakes in life. Christians sin too. Just because Christians are not good Samaritans, as the Bible calls us to be, does not mean they are lost. Believe it or not, there are good and bad Christians. These bad Christians, according to Scripture, will lose rewards in heaven, but the Scripture is still clear that even those who are saved, still stumble and fall.

John MacArthur’s Grace Community Church in Southern California has a history of failing to report, and actually covering up, child sexual abuse by its members and staff. Worse, John MacArthur publicly shamed and called for the shunning of the wife of the staff member, who is currently serving a 21 years to life sentence for aggravated sexual abuse of children. The wife obtained a restraining order against her husband, who taught music and Bible studies to children at the church. The wife reported some of the abuse in their home, to church elders. Not only did they not report the abuse, they ordered her to drop the restraining order and get back together with her abusive husband. It was when she refused, that the church shamed and shunned her.
John MacArthur is hardly a model Christian. He really has no authority to be judging who is and who is not a “true Christian.” He preaches about how to answer the question of the problem of evil, while tolerating and perpetuating the evil that happens under his own roof. John MacArthur is a hypocrite and needs to be called out for aiding and abetting sex offenders. His opinion of other Christians, especially ones who aren’t around to defend themselves, means nothing to me. It shouldn’t matter to you either.

There is no amount of excusing or “whatabout-isms” that can justify that level of hypocrisy. Churches in California, are not exempt from reporting allegations of sexual misconduct. John MacArthur’s church knowingly failed to report the sex abuse to the relevant authorities. That’s a crime in California. For John MacArthur to disparage MLK’s reputation while not even acknowledging his own sin of protecting the predators within his own congregation, is evil. Macarthur was asked a question. He answered it correctly. MLK denied the deity of Christ and the resurrection. It is documented. He never recanted. Macarthur does not have to judge MLK. The Bible has already accomplished the judging (1 Cor 15: 1-4) ( Romans 10: 9). Those who deny the resurrection are not saved, and cannot possibly be Christian. If Jesus did not rise from the dead, Christians are dead in a false Messiah, and that would mean Christianity is false, and is relegated to just another false religion.

IMHO, this seems to be "impeaching the witness" - a legal tactic. A way to secure the base and protect the echo chamber, evangelicalism in this case... from the "woke" revolution. If we can successfully call into question MLK's christian credentials, then we have people stop listening to his (social) message. Regardless of how aligned it may be with Jesus' teachings.
Disclaimer: From my research, I gently lean (without being dogmatic) in the direction that MLK wasn't a believer in Jesus Christ.
      On a related note...
There are many things that MacArthur stands for, that I resonate with, Christian Nationalism for example. But he also has some views on slavery and America's past that I find quite troubling. People can watch his UA-cam clip titled "Slavery and True Liberty (John MacArthur)" where he draws parallels between the master-slave, parent-child and husband-wife relationships. Seems to me that JMAC and MLK are poles apart in their philosophies regarding society.

But any of that isn't really important anyway, his biblical point however was true. He said to come together as a church is a biblical command, so we ought to follow it. He said this would be true even if we had the black death or something. So in this case two biblical concepts apply, for one "We must obey God rather than men.", which is given if you are forbidden to assemble as a church. This alone does justify this actions. The Trinity of the last fifteen hundred years is a detailed, complicated confession which was never a requirement of discipleship in scripture and at some points even disagrees with scripture; hence the need for centuries of development by theological gatherings and it's enforcement by mass torture, murder and propaganda. Simply sticking with what we read and saying some aspects of it are a mystery has gotten many believers murdered by fellow believers trying to support the unity of their theocracies-which is the real reason for smearing the nonconforming. King fought the white nationalist, pseudo-christian, apartheid empire and therefore it's most conservative supporters to this day must oppose the idea of his legitimacy as a Christian to their followers: he disproves their worldly kingdom, heritage and history as being Christian, and shows it to be the opposite, shattering their theocracy.
The founders of America weren't Christians, based not only on things like denying scripture, and being deists, but on actions like genocide, mass rape, torture and murder. They did not produce a theocracy/Christian nation as the Constitution clearly shows, but teaching this truth draws the solid opposition of conservative American Christendom like MacArthur.

Trump is not an ordained Baptist preacher. He is not obligated to teach the truths of the Bible, that we are saved by believing in the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ (1 Cor 15: 1-4) (Romans 10: 9). MLK never once preached the Gospel of Paul, Jesus, or the disciples, that assured Christians of eternal life. MLK was more concerned with the temporary social and economic equality (distribution of wealth) of his flock while on earth than their eternal life in heaven. Otherwise, he would have taught the correct path to salvation.
Does it matter? Jesus said, " I am the door. I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Since King taught that Jesus was a fraud, was not deity, was not the Son of God, did not rise from the grave, and was not of virgin birth, he misled his flock and led them astray from the true Jesus and the true Gospel of Scripture. For an ordained Minister of God, it does not get any worse. Ask people in hell if the true gospel matters.

Nobody denies MLK was a great man and a great leader, but he claimed to be a Christian and never once preached the true Gospel of Christ (1 Cor 15: 1-4) (Romans 10: 9). . He denied the deity of Christ and resurrection. The whole of Christianity is based on the resurrection of Christ. If Christ did not rise from the grave, then Christians will also not be raised from the dead. It would mean that all Christians are lost, and Christ died in vain. Christianity would be relegated to just another false religion. MLK taught a false religion. Macarthur simply told the truth. MLK was not a Christian.

@@2serve4Christ That is not what the Bible teaches as a path to salvation. Even many atheists live a good and decent life, but they are not saved. That is the problem with false teachers. They teach what itching ears want to hear. For example, Joel osteen teaches the "prosperity gospel", and MLK taught the "social gospel". Neither of these Gospels were taught by Paul, Jesus, or any other disciple or writer of the Bible.
The question asked was, "is MLK a Christian". The answer is an emphatic "no". MLK taught the same principles as Plato and other Greek philosophers, but MLK was an ordained minister and was obligated to preach the truth of the Bible. He did not.
There were many real Christians in his flock that he led away from the true Jesus, the Son of God, who died in our place on the cross. This is not the Jesus MLK spoke of. Does it matter? yes!!!! Because it was MLK's solemn responsibility (if he was a Christian) to inform his flock of the true way to eternal life.
King was more interested in the temporary economic equity and social life of those here on earth than their eternal life in heaven. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except thru me." King taught that Jesus was a fraud, not the Son of God, and was not resurrected.
Trump also claims to be a Christian. Maybe, maybe not. But, Trump is not an ordained preacher, and it is not his duty to shepherd a flock to the truth.

MLK denied the deity and resurrection of Christ in his earlier theology. There is documented proof of this in his sermons, especially his Easter sermons. Although MLK returned to his Baptist roots, there is no documented evidence he ever recanted his earlier theology or ever once preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ (1 Cor 15: 1-4) (Romans 10: 9). MLK taught the social and economic gospel. He used the Bible to reach the social outcast who had roots in Christianity. It was extremely effective. There are many theologians who have investigated MLK, and not one of them can produce any evidence that he was a true Christian. His immorality also supports the fact that he was not a follower of Christ.

@@barbwire7449 Thanks for the reply. These are very interesting comments that I had not heard before.
While I also doubt the divinity and resurrection of Jesus, I consider myself a fundamentalist Christian.
Regarding the divinity of Christ, many scholars claim that Christ did not claim to be divine. It was His early followers who concluded that His life, death, and reported resurrection fulfilled the prophecies in the scriptures that he was the Messiah.
Regarding the resurrection, I don't find it necessary to believe in a resuscitated human body to be a Christian. I believe Jesus continues to live through those who gather in His name to practice and spread His teachings. As the saying goes, "The body of Christ is the church." To paraphrase the American folk song "The Balad of Joe Hill", Says I but Joe, you're ten years dead. I never died, said he. Where working men defend their rights, that's where you'll find Joe Hill. So I believe where two or more gather in Jesus' name to "do for the least of these," that's where you'll find JC.
Regarding my fundamentalism, I believe that the fundamental teaching of Christ and His church is to love one another and take care of the poor. It's that simple. It's that fundamental.
I know that many will consider my ideas heretical, but they are the tenets of my sincere faith and practice. As we know from history, one man's heresy is another man's theology. Thank you, Martin Luther. As Thomas Jefferson said, "It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg what a man believes."
Regarding your criticism of MLK's immorality supporting the fact that he was not a follower of Christ, can you help me understand how so many Christians continue to minimize, deny, excuse, support, and condone the immoralities of Donald Trump.

It is the duty of all Christians to stand up and confront evil, including social injustice, whenever and wherever we see it.
In Germany during WW 2, Hitler ordered the crosses removed from the churches, and ran up the swastika. The great German Lutheran pastor Bonhoeffer refused to comply, confronted Hitler and his evil, and was led to the gallows, hanged for treason against Hitler. How many Christians today would lay their life on the line to fight evil?
But fighting evil is not what identifies one as a Christian. Even non Christians such as Gandhi confronted evil. The word "Christian" , in Greek, means "followers of Christ". Christ claimed to be God, performed miracles, was resurrected, was of virgin birth, yet MLK denied all of this.
If Christians deny the resurrection, they become false witnesses, and are therefore false Christians (1 Cor 15: 12-18). MLK was a false witness, making him a false Christian.

We often judge someone to be "judgemental" when they act in a way that overtly reflects a negative assesment of others. I completely agree with Skye in that we should constantly be assessing our own path and the paths of others we may want to emulate. The kicker to me is to then to manifest those assessments in accordance with the Fruit of the Spirit and not in a judgemental way.

We have a book that tells us who is and is not a Christian. Phil’s question, “what % do we need to be like Jesus to be a Christian” didn't draw out the answers I think he was hoping it would. Jesus and the apostles speak about being reborn by the Spirit & the call to faith [Jn. 3] - and having a “vision from Jesus” isn't it. There are also other examples of being called to faith and repentance [Mark 1, Luke 19, Eph. 2], to believe in the one whom the Father has sent [Jn. 6], confessing Jesus as the Son of God, King, and the literal resurrection of Jesus [Romans 10, 1 Cor. 15], continually denying our desires for a life of sacrificial love [Mat. 16, Mat. 21, 1 Jn. 1], and the simple idea that you know you need forgiveness [Luke 5] seem to grow out of being forgiven and living in God’s Kingdom. MLK was a gift of God to America for equality when we needed him (and we are still learning a lot about equality). But doing good stuff (even a large %!) without faith in Christ as the sinless Son of God and resurrected savior does not erase our sins [Rom. 3]. In fact, none of the things that mark rebirth by the Spirit and redemption are re in MLK’s preaching or speeches (and it seems, his life). This seems strange for a pastor to miss (even though there are enough out there who do). Trump is not a Christian either, for the same reasons as MLK was not: no faith in Christ as their living King, literally resurrected for the forgiveness of sins, with growth in the Spirit [Gal. 5].

If Christ did not rise from the dead, Jesus would be a liar, a fraud, and the rest of Christianity would have no hope of resurrection, meaning all Christians would remain dead in their sins. The thing that will always stop the sweet sweet holy Spirit is gossip "casual or unconstrained conversation or reports about other people, typically involving details that are not confirmed as being true."
I remember when Oral Roberts was alive I came across this forum where so many (Believers) were going on and on about something he had said. Now what got me was Oral was not there to answer back or defend himself. I have been like this all my life (62 now). I always thought what if it was me what would want. When I found that in the word of GOD..haha oh praise GOD GLORY TO JESUS. Anyway so me being no one went to the man himself and asked. See I really wanted to know... it was all in love. If its of GOD He will open all the doors and always has. Oh what Oral said if they has just asked was nothing at all what they were going on and on about. So many yet no one just asked.
Christians are still human and we love LOVE to talk about others. Now allot share talk as if they have the real truth. A man of GOD long gone now would say "don't take my word for this, don't just believe me you pray you study you find this truth for your self".
So oh yes so many others just have to jump on this and talk about it. Me? Well .. I can only see the flesh and my Father sees the heart. What John said? Don't care. He has ever right to say that There are so many things when it comes to people in history that oddly never get talked about. Take some known Preachers that haha get whats that word "exposed"? Well they always I mean always leave out those video clips "if I get it wrong tell me I will repent and get it right" or "we got that wrong I repented". We had fire here the nation knew about it. We get this phone call my a known made fun of trashed talked Ministry "what do you need? What ever it us you tell us no matter what it us you ask we will get it to you". Yeah NO ONE in ALL over America no one else call us to help but these guys did and we were not giving to them how did they get our number?
So I went searching man that was not easy. See they don't make it known. There not doing it for mans reward. I found they do this all the time when floods, earth quakes, storms, tornados you name it happens they come with truck loads of goods. NO ONE that has ever "exposed" shared this. Praise GOD. So if you judged them by say "fruits" you see man believers judge them very badly. I never talk about what they do over seas. What good do they do for Christ. To hear a preacher praying asking GOD why He has not judge this .. hmm so and so preacher with fire and brimstone (his words) Christ said "oh but do you know the good they do for me".
How can the LIGHT see know more about darkness then good? I can just quote scriptures here but...but the Church loves to gossip. its everywhere now. Some Christians talking about some other group and persons praise God not my kids were talking about

"In our quest to make neighborly love a reality, we have, in addition to the inspiring example of the good Samaritan, the magnanimous life of our #Christ to guide us. His altruism was universal, for he thought of all men, even publicans, and sinners, as brothers. His altruism was dangerous, for he willingly traveled hazardous roads in a cause he knew was right. His altruism was excessive, for he chose to die on #Calvary, history’s most magnificent expression of obedience to the unenforceable."

While it may not matter to everyone, his faith deeply influenced his moral convictions and provided a foundation for his message of love, justice, and equality. Understanding his faith helps contextualize his work and the values he advocated for.

MLK taught the same principles as Plato and Socrates. He was just another philosopher. MLK never once preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ. MLK was just another snake oil salesman coming down the road, using his persuasive voice, homily, metaphor, and figurative language to attract and mesmerize his audiences. He was extremely effective. He used the Christian roots of his audiences as an ally to push his agenda. He was a great man, with great accomplishments, but not a Christian.

But where was the kingdom of God what was Jesus talking about and what I think the kingdom of God is is here and now listen...
Where is the kingdom of God located?
So where is the kingdom? The kingdom is here and everywhere. The kingdom of God comes to life whenever people of faith gather and call for God's help. The kingdom of God is near if only we call out to the God who already reigns over us.
The Lord Jesus told us clearly that God's kingdom is on earth, not in heaven; God's will will be done on earth just as it is in heaven.

And yet---someone who lived a careless life, and on their deathbed confessed the Messiah---will go straight into the arms of the Everlasting God

MLK was a great orator and speaker and played a critical role in the civil rights movement. He should be remembered as a great leader and liberator. He was clearly not a Christian by any reasonable definition of what a Christian is. He denied the bodily resurrection of Christ, the virgin birth, the deity of Jesus. He put all these opinions in writing when he graduated seminary, and as far as anyone knows never retracted them. I think the problem that Christians have is when Dr. King is remembered as a great Christian leader which he was not.

The question is, "did MLK preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ?" The answer is no. There is documented proof that MLK denied the deity of Christ and denied the resurrection. We are saved by believing in the Gospel, the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ (1 Cor 15: 1-4) (Romans 10: 9). The central theme of Christianity is the resurrection. There is also no evidence MLK recanted his earlier theology. MLK taught "another Jesus" and "another Gospel" (2 Cor 11: 4). As Macarthur, says, MLK is not a Christian, and this is important because MLK lead others astray. If we miss the true Gospel, we miss eternal life.

(John 3: 18) ...those who do not believe are condemned already. The problem with Dr. King is that not only did he not believe this, he failed, as an ordained Minister of God, to convey this doctrine to his congregation.
We should not take any honors from this great man. He is worthy of every accolade and praise due him. He was the greatest man of his century. @@hidden-treasures Loving and forgiving others, doing good works, is not the requirement for salvation. If it were, both Gandhi and Muhammad would also qualify for a front seat in heaven, although both deny being a Christian.
That is the problem with Dr. King. MLK was an ordained minister who claimed to be a Christian, yet taught unchristian doctrines. If you are a pastor, really love someone and really care for them, you teach them what Christ said it takes to have eternal life in heaven, not the social doctrines that result in only temporary and comfortable conditions while on earth.
There is nothing wrong with King's teachings that we should love and care for others. But, not once in his book, or sermons, did MLK teach the Gospel which is the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. According to the Bible, the Gospel is of first importance. See (1 Cor 15: 3).
No one is denying that Dr. King was a great man with great accomplishments. MLK was the greatest man of his century. He deserves a national holiday, and all the accolades to him for his changes to society. But, MLK failed to teach sound Biblical doctrines. By doing so, MLK left his first love (Rev 2: 4), A true Christian's first love is Jesus. MLK denied the deity of Christ, His resurrection, and by doing so, denied his congregation the true path to salvation.
Macarthur was correct. MLK was not a Christian. His social gospel teachings were basically the same as other Greek philosophers, such as Socrates, Plato, and Thales, and other false religions such as Hinduism and Buddhism. MLK died way too young, had much more to accomplish, yet he left his congregation in spiritual disarray and darkness when it comes to eternal life.

Obviously as we all have, clearly he had some problems with infidelity but that does not negate all the good and godly works of justice and righteousness that he did as well. He was a vessel that God worked through and fought the good fight against the evil and corrupt systems of the god of this world. He brought glory to Gods name and revealed the righteous and wise character of God, the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit who are One, if he was offensive to people who are darkened in their hearts, minds and souls through the sin that indwells them, that only serves to reaffirm the genuiness of his walk of faith and brings a boomerang and double blessing unto the glory of the kingdom of God as well.
