    I've been here 15 years. The hottest summer I experienced it got to 49 degrees for a few days back in 2013. I used to put my pillow in the freezer for a couple of hours before going to bed. AND I didn't have AC back in those days. Utter nightmare!

    Where have you been shopping? Fresh strawberries, in Mellieha, where I live, are between 2 and 2.5 euro. Go to a small market. A lot of them are owned by farm families. I am able to eat things here that I gave up 10 or more years ago, when I lived in the States. Just bought broccoli and mushrooms yesterday. Like having diamonds and rubies, except they are edible. 40C may seem hot to someone who grew up in Britain, but it is normal for people like me. All a matter of what you're accustomed to. But I don't like the damp in winter.

      @DeliaLange Рік тому

      I was thinking the same about the weather 😭. I live in a country where it is normal for the temperature to he 47,48 degrees Celsius in the summer so it getting to 40 rarely is fine for me!

    as a maltese person i wish you would've talked more about our history cause like you said we have old temples from probably centuries ago but we are also known for being (i think) the most bombed place in world war 2 because we were being invaded by everyone and so we were getting bombed by almost everyone

      @@porucznikkundlewicz5218 If I properly understood what you meant, you are more than right. The Maltese people never really fought for the independence of their country, except simply following orders from their respective rulers.
      Unless we mention a few daring individuals who had a completely different vision from the rest of the population (which was always the vast part of the population).
      And in fact, those few individuals, were always seen as "traitors" from all the real traitors totally lacking from true morals and principles which were needed back then.
      And the above is said from a Maltese person.

    Where did you buy your strawberries from? If from supermarkets, then yes, they would be pricey, especially during off-season. But when they're in season you can find them for half that price at the farmer's market in Ta' Qali. They also sell plenty of locally grown produce for less than you'd find in a shop :)

    Other cons:
    - the petards during festas. These things are unbearable. It's like the Blitz. I dunno how old people don't have heart attacks cos you can feel the windows shake!
    - the size of the island; it can make you feel isolated and claustrophobic
    - lack of greenery/parks
    Other pros:
    - food portions at restaurants: very generous!
    - history
    - people speak English + Italian

    Perth in Western Australia sounds very similar regarding hot weather. We often get 88C-42C or sometimes higher.. during summer. Not much rain if any during summer. I'm from London but have lived in Italy since 2001, and have two kids 10 and 8 years who have only ever lived here. We're visiting Malta over New Year, and as I'm researching, I've become taken with the idea that we could relocate there. Do you know any people who could advise on what Malta is like from a family (and soon to have teenagers) perspective? Also do you know if there is much of an eco/permaculture community in Malta? It seems like it desperately needs regenerative agricultural approaches to deal with the lack of water.

      It depends on your definition of walkable hahah. But the nicest areas to walk around are Sliema (it has a big promenade along the front as well as lots of shops/a shopping mall - but it means it's usually busy), Valletta is classed as a city so there's city toll for cars, which means it's quite nice to walk around there (again, can be busy). And really any smaller/seaside towns like Mellieha, St Pauls Bay. But those are just from personal experience, I don't really go to the south that much, but I'm sure there's lovely walkable neighborhoods there too.

    Asking in 2024, what is it like securing a job from outside of Malta?

    • @tessamay3753
      @tessamay3753  7 місяців тому

      It really depends what career field you're looking in tbh. In the summer there are lots of hospitality jobs since it's tourist season, but the more 'stable' jobs that aren't seasonal you can find on LinkedIn quite easily 😊

    Do you find Malta safe for women travelling on their own?

    • @tessamay3753
      @tessamay3753  Рік тому

      Honestly it depends, it's the same as most places in Europe. There are certain areas where I personally feel more safe and can walk/get public transport alone in the evening. But there are certain areas that I would avoid... just a case of using common sense and making sure you take the right precautions 😊

    No rude people? I live in Malta and I am used to people arguing with each other even if they are complete strangers

    • @georgebronte840

      Nah, they're probably good friends arguing about soccer or justifiably complaining about the uncontrolled hordes of rude, entitled foreigners.

      Can't say I've ever experienced something like that, I've found everyone I've met here to be very kind 😊 but I guess it's the same with anywhere you go, I don't think anywhere on earth is 100% free of rude people 😅🤷🏼‍♀️

    John 3:16-21 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
