    I want to take the time to say thank you for your video it was the best one that I found with straightforward answers to help me with the issues that I was having. I adjusted my chain tried another cut and then did a slight sharpening on one side which brought me back straight thank you very much

    I like how simple and straightforward you explanation was.
    I went through 10 videos to find how to solve my problem of my saw cuting to the left.
    The other guys were using a micrometer and measuring the teeth; how many people have a micrometer handy??
    They didn't explain the leftmand right teeth, they just measured and filed, measured and filed, measured and filed.
    Till the teeth were the same measurements.
    I'm saving your video to my chainsaw maintenance list.

    Yes very helpful I think, that is i am going to try your suggestions, I have a new Extreme 82100 XP 22" SAW and it cuts to the left, It is fairly new, used approximately 20 times. I was told that maybe it was uneven sharpening but not as you described so it was a guessing game. I thought about reversing the bar but because I lack that experience I did not do so.
    I am going to go out now and sharpen the chain for the left cutting error side as you mentioned, if it persists then i will reverse the bar, or maybe just reverse the bar while it is cold.
    Thanks again it was very helpful, It July 16, Trump Putin day and its almost 30 degrees here so a hot one for cutiing wood but it needs to get done and some wood has to dry out.

    Thanks so much for NOT saying the teeth on one side are worn back farther than the other!!! That myth is so wrong and so often blamed for crooked cutting. Keep ‘em sharp, and pay special attention to the depth guides.

    Great advice.. if all these tips fail then get a new chain. Keep the moving blade out of the ground and dirt!! Most important tip ive learned... If you do this you can cut for many hours without sharpening.

    Where the join in the chain is, there are often 2 teeth on the same side of the saw. This means that you have 1 more tooth on one side than the other.
    I use this to help me start sharpening the saw, so that I can see where I have been. Would this cause the cut to curve to one side, or the other?

    Mine is cutting to the right so I sharpen first still cut to the right so I went and bought a new chain and bar and still cut to the right, straight out of the package and still cut to the right what else can make it do that

      Are you sure the chain has the correct tension? If it's too loose, it would do that.

      Can be the grain of the wood..simple as that. Cutting through a giant pepper tree, with its multiple direction grain was enough to throw all 5 saws we were using.

    Yes sir, good video with straight foreword, easy to follow instructions. You did however leave out a very common issue that could cause the chain to ride at a angle and cause it to cut crooked, and that's uneven wear on the rails of your bar. The rails being the two tops of the groove on your bar that the guides of your chain ride in. It's a common problem that be readily fixed at most small engine repair shops, depending if they have face type grinder and jig for that type of reconditioning. Or you can do it yourself with a good flat file, a steady bench vise, and a half decent transit eye. But yes sir, wish I had your knack for giving simple instructions!

    my chainsaw cuts to the right, but the left cutters are sharp. They are smaller than the right ones though. Is this the issue?

    The other factor for a chain to cut to the right or left is due to filing down the rakers at an unequal amount......this would allow the teeth on one side to take a bigger bite into the wood than the other side.

    My chainsaw cuts towards left. I think reason is i can not sharpen teeth on the right side.

      Thomas H H Not if it has an arked curve in the wood. A properly sharpened chain will cut straight down and leave chips, not saw dust.

    Why on earth would the teeth be dull on just one side..as you use the saw both sides will get evenly dull. The problem with saws cutting to one side..is that if u sharpen by hand what tends to happen is that people sharpen one side with more strokes ,( its called a favourite or best side ..its the side u find easist to sharpen...hence what happens is the teeth on one side become shorter than the other and so are not pulling out as much timber on the cut. Sharpen your teeth so they are the same size.

    Terrible advice! You led 1000 people in a bad direction. They are teeth not cutters. You don’t flip or replace a bar because it’s developed a burr. You file it down with a flat file. You failed to mention rakes but I digress.

      Wow, your criticism is over the top. Teeth cutters…same same. And yes he is correct, you do flip over the bar as well as file it.
