    This is absolutely the best Takoyaki recipe I've ever seen, I'm actually going to buy a pan and try it. Thank you for inspiration and very descriptive steps. You make it look so easy.

      I have bought pans and gadgets to make yummy food. They always end up in my cupboard! I try, I fail and to the back of the cupboard it goes! As much as I love Takoyaki, I know I will fail so I won't even attempt buying the pan! 🤣 Best of luck and lmk how it goes. 🤙

    I've been cooking takoyaki for a year now, gotta say it's one of the best street food i've ever loved. I usually cook twice the batter to make it very round and creamy inside. Usually the cooking time is around 15 minutes until all of them are brown. It's a really fun and delicious dish

    It seems in Japanese cuisine, one should have a large pitcher of kombu water in the kitchen or refrigerator ready to go because it's used everywhere and requires so much time beforehand to infuse.

      If you can find near your location, there is also liquid version of dashi soup stock sold in bottles. I use it since it is easier and more convenient.

    You can add some more batter to the pan when you do the first turning, easy way to make them look pretty even if you mess up with the turning a bit. Very nice recipe!

    Another great recipe chef Taku. I may need to invest in a Takoyaki pan after watching this. I have been craving these since we had them in Japan so I went and bought some prefrozen ones but my husband complained as there was not enough octopus in them so I was just thinking I will need to see if I can find out how to make them. You must have read my mind!

      If you got your Takoyaki pan,

      Adding cheese, using prawn instead, etc.
      Possibility is endless!!

    A very similar looking dish is prepared in Tamil Nadu ( A South Indian State) called Panniyaram which is made only from batter sweetened with a traditional natural sugar called Mandavalam ( or Gud in Hindi) and there is no use of any kind of meat. Even the oven used is exactly same.
    This could be because of a monk called Bodhi-Dharaman ( Daruma In Japanese ) travelled to China & Japan from India and had great impact in spreading of Buddhism and thus also might had some influence of Indian food culture. Thus toriyaki is very similar to panniyaram.
    I may or may not be accurate but I don't have intention of downplaying Japanese culture.

    I can't get a Takoyaki pan or the bonito flakes where I live 😥 and postage for the pan is so expensive. Can I ask where you live in Australia? I'm your newest subscriber, I love all things Japanese.

    The ingredients r not things I use everyday. Makes me wonder if I should just buy the cooked food. Wouldn’t it cost more for me to make it?

    I have a question. Isn't the batter undercooked on purpose? Or how else do you get the creamy center?

    • @CHEFSLABO
      @CHEFSLABO  Рік тому

      The batter will be gelatinised as you cook. It is different to undercook, so you’ll get creamy texture by following this recipe 👍

    As bonito flakes are quite expensive where I live, is it possible to do this recipe with half the amounts of everything? Cutting down the recipe in half when it comes to quantities should still be good and proportioned right? I don't want to make too much because a whole 40g bag of Bonito is like 8 eur over here!

    • @CHEFSLABO
      @CHEFSLABO  3 роки тому +2

      No worries Thai!!
      Or you can use double amount of kombu, or bit more octopus to make richer dashi without bonito👍😉

      @@CHEFSLABO I will use more kombu and less bonito then! Thank you. Is it ok to make half recipe for everything? Smaller portions so I don't get too fat too quick :D
