This video will stay teaching people for years and years no matter the age of the video this will always be useful to understand
Dear Vegas.!
I am saying Thanks, because You really Explained very good. I really Appreciate..!
Thanks Vegas; I've had bikes for 40 years and never understood this till now - many thanks mate
Awesome man... Glad you liked it
pretty damn good explanation there. I knew this stuff many years ago, but I am glad you took the time to explain for everyone not so used to this.
yeah i was 38 when i learned it , im still envy the 18 year olds that already know it, older we get wise we get !
I'm watching this video after watching another video you posted and both were excellent! Thank you for taking the time to make this video to help people like me who have not done this yet. Great job!
Yeah this was a very good explanation. You're awesome, very well explained! Thank you so much
This is a great explanation man. Thanks
Wow Thanks that’s Great video
This Explained exactly what I needed to know
Thank you
Great video. Thank you mate 🙏
Excellent explanation. Thank you!!!
Awesome explanation, finally understood
Having to do this on a bombardier ds650, thank you for your simplicity and break down.
Glad to be of help
Thank you, finally i understand!
You're welcome!
This was an amazing explanation and answered exactly what I was wondering. It was very clear. Thank you Very much my friend!
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for the video
Great job!
Understood so well thanks so much....
Thanks for the video man this finally clearly explains what shims are. I feel so lost talking to mechanics
Haha yeah they want your money that's it
Agree
No problem to understand what you are trying to explain, excellent drawing
Nailed it! Many thanks for clear explanation sir!
I'm happy you liked it
Im ignorant how valve works and how important it is to be in tolerance but you explain it so well.thanks
You are welcome..
realy like the video!!!!!
Excellent job thnx
Great video. Thanks!
Awesome thanks for watching
Great!! 😊
Is this gap you speak of between the top of the valve stem and the cam lobe on the cam shaft or between the valve stem and the cam shaft? IOW is the gap measured with the lobe pointing down or when it is not down?
an excellent explenation
Insanely helpful explanation
Thanks...
Thank you. It is very good video. To get more overall understaning - you could also explain, what will happen with engine if valves breaks.
are all the shim kit the same? with one would you recommend to have for a yz45f ´11
thanks in advance!
Mersi frate!
Thank you!
Glad you like it
I am currently doing the math for my 1jz vvti and i am having trouble wondering if i ever have to add both my valve lash measurment to my goal measurment. The formula calls for. Measured valve lash - goal valve lash then you add that to the size bucket you have with shim currently to get your shimless bucket measurment.
On a side note you helped me understand this way much better compared to other videos i seen!!!! Good shit man
Nice explanation!!
awesome
I bought a bike from a guy and with the head off and he never had shims in it ? So do I start with big increments or small shims to find right shims?
as valves wear and move farther into the head... wouldn't you need to put a smaller shim not a bigger shim like you said ?? just looking for clarification
So are shims pretty much kinda like spacers?
Hi my 150 doesn't have shims, it has adjustable valve clearances and only 2 valves. Your videos though taught me a lot about maintaining motors and valving , thank you !
I'm glad i was able to help , thanks for watching
hey bro can you help me get the shims for my cbr 250 r
Very good explanation thank you. I have a ticking noise on my Varadero 1000 at low rpms and i was thinking it was the tensioners but i replace them and is still ticking. Does the valve shims also ticking when need replacement?
That can be, I woukd check the clearances
@@vegasromaniac thanks!
You mean that titanium valve is bad and how many times I have to check the valve clearance?
But how often do you recommend doing a valve shimming ? I think that's 36000 km on my bike but I think that's way too much , I'm drying hard and barely 18000 km ...
Great video. Can you tell me why a motorcycle engine still has a tapping noise after adjusting valve/cam clearance to factory specs (.003). I have a 2009 Suzuki DR200 with only 300 miles on it and the tapping/ticking noise(only heard when the engine gets hot) is really annoying. Thanks!
maybe the tension-er for the chain
Maybe dumb question but how do you know whether to add a gap or close the gap?
Does anyone have the order, or at least the specs for the 1GRFE 4.0 V6, more specifically a 2004 4runner? I lost my footing and a few of the valve tappets fell out and I don’t know where they go, lol. Any help is appreciated!!
Great video and clear explanation. My CBR1100XX exhaust valve number#7 is sticking because of carbon build up on valve and valve seat (sticking and leak), and at first the gap was 0.27mm (spec at 0.22mm), i tapped the bucket with wooden stick and a hammer a few time, then the gap reduced to 0.23mm. is it okay? I decided to check valve clearance because it misfire on cylinder #4 (CBR 1100XX EFI 1999 KM 40k kM)
That is a lot of carbon
I can't tell you man if it's in spec, ride it see what happens
My bike seems to run fine i have the same bike, but an 05. But i should probably pull it apart and check my valves and timing chain.
+BlackCoffee I didn't believe in preventive maintenance when I owned the wr450, but since I have the yz, the high rpm is making my life a lot more difficult..
vales is close the distance is frm 015 to 025 but inside the shim is allready 1,55 wat do??? buy new valvle??
👍👍👍
Very good explanation..... But using black marker will display the picture more perfectly
if you can hear the valve ticking, that`s good, when that tick goes away ,too tight ,not so good ,burn your exhaust valve
Should we replace the valve instead of the shim?
Nope, valves shoud be replaced only if they are worn
I understand now. But why don't we replace the valve stem assymbly itself after the specified mileage?
Because sometimes they don't wear out and sometimes they wear out a lot really fast
Hey Vegas do you set the shims for your valves on the short side of spec, at the long or in the middle of manual spec?
Because emy shims come in 05 increments, I can't be picky but it's better to be on the tight side if possible, I just go make sure they are in spec
@@vegasromaniac so my exhaust valves on my 450 Suzuki tolerance is 0.17 to 0.24 and my filler gauge Gap is 010 so I need to shorten the shim up in order to get to the .017 so I shortened the shims in order to make the Gap bigger?
@@450motodog8 yes you need a smaller shim.. Your calves are out of spec badly..
@@vegasromaniac so I will just make it.10 shorter Shim that'll put me in between valve clearance
@@vegasromaniac is there still plenty of room for taking shims out though
You did a great job breaking it down and explained it perfectly. I know you have a yz250f, but what's your thoughts on the 2010+ yz450f's?
+Brandon Aga my buddy is bringing one this weekend from Colorado, so I'll be riding it, I'll let you know exactly what I feel
How to know the valve Shim size after do grindvalve?
Trial and error..
So my question is the bigger the shim the bigger the gap?
No bigger thicker shim smaller the gamp
You are making a YUGE mistake by assuming the number stamped on the shim hasn't changed. I'll guarantee you that a 1.80mm shim with 100 hrs on will mike-out to 1.73-1.74mm.
