Good ol backfist/flicker jab, super quick, works great from a shell, even as an eye poke in self defense

Cool video Tim. I've been playing with the cross guard a little during sparring. Is it possible to create a series of shorts or long format videos on the cross guard as a system?

If it is an ulnar nerve issue and you've let it heal for a few months and you still feel pain I would recommend getting it checked out.

He's talking to beginners and intermediate students. Advanced guys can throw out the rulebook once they have experience. Like being able to speak formally or spit slang. In that sense, most absolute statements are generalized relative statements for a broad audience. You are right, but for most people either not moving or moving too much are major issues. Therefore the more balanced moves are preferred for them. Especially since a wide swing often keaves you open if you miss. Learning to keep your discipline and snap a jab and your punches is first, then adding the log chopper as its called in bare knuckle and featured in old movies alibg with the student's personal expression of power punches. There was at least one old bare knuckle champ who won with this swing through backfist move as his primary tool, but most would benefit from other ideas first.

Bro, dafuq are you even talking about with this backfisting in boxing? You TRYIN to get folks disqualified? I mean it's like teaching underhand pitching for baseball. It's a good technique to learn, as was historically a favorite of Bruce Lee, but it doesn't match the sport you're teaching.

Its just a jab dude. The point is not power... and anyway gloves do a great job of protecting fingers.
