I could be wrong but I just noticed something. The Tech Air 5 has rib protection and the Tech Air 10 doesn’t. I would be using the 10 on the street no track and now I’m second guessing my order. I want the hip protection but don’t like the fact it doesn’t provide the upper coverage like the Tech Air 5. The chest protection does look beefier than the 5. RevZilla can you confirm if this is correct or not there no side rib protection like the 5
Yes, the chest protections is a bit better, but both work great. Your concerns are true, but the thing is that in comparison to the TA5, the TA10 benefits from much larger protection on the Back, going all the way down to your butt. IMO, protecting your spine is more important than protecting your side ribs. And because of the hip airbag, it should be pretty unlikely to fall on the side or your rib area, unless you are very unlucky and hit an obstacle right up there. But yes, the perfect airbag would be the TA10 with the side rib coverage of the TA5, but I trust the engineers and analysist of AS to figure out, if thats needed to bring near future.
So if anyone can clarify. Since it deploys if your over 37mph on street mode. I ofcourse will surpass that speed limit on a highway. So would i just switch it to racemode when on a highway and then street mode when driving around town? Or can you tweak some settings in the app for that kind of stuff
According to Astars, if you are riding on public roads you should be in Street mode, and Race mode is only for the track to stop the unit from deploying from tip overs in pit lane or in the pits. You won't out-ride their parameters of the Street mode even if you are Ghost Rider running through European cities doing hot laps. The most important thing is that you can't just change the settings one the fly while moving (even if you could use the app while hitting +37 mph), but every highway has an end or an off-ramp and once you are below 37, if you get taken out by car at the light or rear ended in some traffic - Street mode is the only one that'll protect you. Since that's the highest likelihood accident on the street - Street mode should definitely be the one you go with. But hey - that's Astars' words, not mine. I'd trust their mountains of 20+ years of data and crash stats for my use, but that might just be me. Safe riding 🤙
I had the same thought about the Tech 5 I just bought in December but I think I probably would have bought it anyway. The 5 is painless to use every ride and a huge pain to put on under a suit. This is almost exactly the opposite.
@@pistonburner6448 Agreed. For the track. But for the canyons it would be nice to know that I don’t have to remove the upper suit, the upper airbag and the inner liner for a quick leak.

I'm wearing an Alpinestars Missile Ignition Tech-Air suit, size 54, it fits snugly, could I use the Tech-Air 10? the shoulder protectors of the suit are removed right?
Alpinestars says you need at least 4cm of extra space in the suit to use the Tech Air 10 safely, which we roughly translate as a medium to thick hoodie fitting underneath. If you can work with that, you should have enough stretch to factor in the airbag deploying. And yes, you can remove the shoulder armor depending on the fit / whether you want the static armor in there as well.
