- Took my 3rd gen Tacoma to get the peeling paint evaluated. Ended up with this 2024 TRD Off Road I-Force max hybrid Tacoma...jeeze thats a mouth full. This is just a quick "first impressions" and "thoughts" video about the truck while I had the keys for a couple days.
What are your thoughts about the new 4th gen hybrids?

Got the same truck in white! Coming from an 03' gen 1; the tech feels like witchcraft but it makes sense easy to adapt. My Dad got the gas model and it's more in the ball park of my gen 1. Weird thing is his mpg is almost 26 mpg and mine with the hybrid is like 13 mpg?? Not an engineer but im thinking its wasting more gas every time the hybrid system cuts of the engine and ignites it back up again. I hate that start stop motor crap. My opinion the best flavor is the 6 speed manual gas. That is how you can truly appreciate a turbo motor.
Congrats on the truck! The tech is definitely overwhelming at first, but like you mentioned easy to adapt. I had a 2nd gen, sold that and wanted to find a cherry 1st gen. Ended up with a 3rd gen about a year later as it was my “dream” truck. I see cherry 1st gens cruising around all the time and still kick myself😅 Yeah the mpg math on the hybrid is underwhelming to say the least! I don’t disagree with your theory on that. The start stop drives me crazy as well, but will say Toyota did a decent job trying to smooth out the on/off. I also thought maybe it takes a while for the computer to calculate the true mpg? Maybe it needs to run X amount of tanks? I know Toyota mentioned it’s not so much a hybrid for efficiency, more for “power delivery” but I would still expect at least low 20’s right off the bat. If I ever go forth gen it would definitely be the route your dad went. Turbo 4 with the manual transmission! Probably a blast to drive! I wonder if he would trade you for the hybrid if you ever get tired of it? 😂 kidding! Enjoy your new truck thanks for checking out the video! 🌮😎👍🏻
