      100% that's about the WORST thing you could consume. Every long lived people in the blue zones have CARBS in their diet. But not JUNK FOOD carbs.
      Quality high fibre carbs
      BEANS
      SWEET POTATOES
      BARLEY
      LENTILS.

    Add my N = 1. I am who they are talking about: was fat/prediabetic/tired and now after a year keto I am superwoman (ok, delusional too). 71 next birthday, but feel 21. Figure of a 21 year old (but with wrinkly bits). Blood glucose down and under MY control. My food is highly saturated with yummy fat, and plenty of protein. Carbs are purely for decoration (I love a red berry on my bowl of clotted cream). I think I am fabulous. Look! It doesn't matter how delusional I am... it's the way I feel that counts. Carbs are no longer, literally, getting me down.

      Yes, if we've stretched our covers around a lot of bulk, wrinkles are going to happen. Oh, well. We can now get off the floor and in and out of a bathtub with our own efforts. We're ambulatory. Good for you, and good for me. Getting older doesn't suck as much. Older, ambulatory, and independent for as long as we can be. Keep it up. 👍

    Lovely video thank you. I've been on a meat based diet for most of my life really. Never eaten a salad, rarely eat fruit and occasionally used to eat veg & did eat grains but this was steel cut oats. ALL foods are single product packaging.
    Never tested my cholesterol, only blood tests are for Vitamin D which is six monthly.
    Never had a virus of any significance in memory. Never had flu and never had the recent virus either.
    Increasing towards a Carnivore diet recently I noticed my health has improved even further. Brain is sharper, sleep is better (it's always been good) and I feel more alive. Thank you Dr Zoe for giving me the confidence to realise I'm on the right track.

      Glad to hear it! Carbs definitely have more of an impact than what people think for sure! I noticed when I went carnivore for the first time after eating not much else other than meat, fish, peas and green beans that I too found improvements still! My sleep had a massive improvement, despite sleeping, I'd find myself restless upon waking, absolutely exhausted like I'd never even slept! - Ryan, Keto-Pro Shop Team

      That's what mine have every day now. They're often too full to eat their lunch and even finish the breakfast. So much calmer, and we haven't eaten cereals for years anyway. Purely various eggs and bacon, smoked salmon, and mince for breakfast have really helped them. Once a week, we have a roti paratha with scrambled eggs inside (it's amazing how much butter you can fold into eggs), which we call an egg roll-up. Kids like making little 'tacos' with bacon or ham to wrap the eggs. They aren't yet into poached, basted, or shirred eggs. That's the next step...

    The problem with government guidelines is the _government_ part. Government has always been the tool of the cartelized industries throughout history to protect them from the competition that consumers need. Guidelines are no exception!

    • @Ge1Ri4
      @Ge1Ri4 9 місяців тому

      Right stick, but you've got a hold of the wrong end. The government part isn't bad. The bad part is where industry has taken over government and writes the rules. If you get rid of government, then industry is free to do whatever they want, and sooner or later you will have a monopoly, which will become the defacto government, which, again, will be a case of industry controlling the government. The solution is a government controlled by the people, and industries and markets tightly regulated by the government.

      Keep telling yourself that. I eat 55% carbs, about 2700 calories a day, and dropped 18 pounds and kept it off. Carbs alone aren't responsible for obesity or diabetes, and any doctor claiming otherwise is incompetent. Millions of couch potatoes who eat junk food are the real problem. All white flour and potatoes and dessert, is junk food. Replacing carbs with saturated fat can make diabetes worse because it increases insulin resistance

    Good morning. I’m a Brit in South Africa. Not long found your channel, thanks to your interview with Chaffee.
    So much about this interview I appreciated. Loved the diagram of ‘what’s in a steak’.
    My health was already compromised hormonally, when I opted to see a dietitian in 2021. I’d been keto/banting for agggges. Just wasn’t loosing weight. Ended up falling yet again for a calorie restricted low fat low protien LOADS OF VEG diet (1200c). Each month my health was worse than the last. I refused to eat salad ever again 5 weeks in. By September 2022 (stopped seeing dietician because we kept butting heads). I was staying mobile most the day because sitting down had become agony, getting up was worse. I kept saying it’s the food!!! And she couldn’t wouldn’t see it. I had list of complaints too long to mention here. I’d been hearing of the Petersons Lion diet the whole of 2022 and in the end I researched it for 2 months and the week before Xmas 2022 just did it cold turkey with eggs and butter of cheese. Been carnivore ever since and haven’t stopped listening to health channels (of a certain type) and lectures. I’ve been experimenting alot and keep a diary.
    Many things have improved but I’ve still got problems. I’m 57 female 3.5 years into menopause, just can’t loose weight, won’t stop hot flushing blah blah blah. I started extended fasting end of July 2023 (19 in total) I’m currently doing a 72hr once a week (tomorrow starts my fourth in a row. Im really paying attention to nutrition on my eating days. Had a ton of extra bloods yesterday and having a second appointment with a functional hormonal practitioner who is very happy I’m on carnivore and fasting.
    I’m rambling I know. I’m hopping mad. I’ve thought I’ve really paid attention to health. Yet it seems I’ve been hood winked. Both with food and pharmaceuticals because I’ve had some traumas that have been treated with tooooo many god damn pills that didn’t help one bit (chucked the hole lot down the loo in 2010. I’ve also had run ins with alcohol as a form of self medication.
    It’s nice to hear that you and Zoe also mad. I said to someone the other day get mad and get even and reclaim your health. It’s just so darn frustrating that you have to walk a maze to get it.

      Hormones are made primarily from fat. Think about that!!
      NO carb, very high fat diet saved my life and body. Even small cheats, especially with grains, are five steps back now. Almonds, hazel- and walnuts, eggs, birds, and coffee with MCT works very well for me. With only crucieferous vegetables and roots as plantbased additions. Thriving now instead of chronically ill.

      I just listen to my body. Elimination and trial got me here. No fancy acronyms needed haha. But paleo-keto would describe it well though. But is it truly paleo if we use modern foods. Paleo inspired maybe... but most of what we eat did not exist in its current form during the paleolithic age. I can eat most things that grow in the northern hemisphere. But grains and starchy stuff mess up entire body. @@Tee667

    Fantastic to read these comments and how people have transformed their lives. The supermarkets are full of junk. (So too are the clothing and general goods stores). Of course all our discussions are a luxury really because within the next 20 years or so, a major concern within the world, even in the developed nations, will be food security. This will result from the effects of climate change, rising energy prices and loss of quality soil.

    Since discovering a truly healthy lifestyle, attempting to communicate the information has often been met with derision... especially regarding saturated fats! The real frustration comes from just how steadfast these people are at holding on to that ignorance! Basically telling me "you're not a doctor...what would you know?" My retort: "So, if I learn to speak another language, you're saying that I'm not allowed to converse in that language, because it's not my native tongue?". Thank you Dr. Harcombe, and ALL, for getting this information out there!

      Challenge them to find the proof for what they believe. That's essentially how I ended up in this space, challenging the dogma after my Dad died from complications after a heart attack and surgery. His cholesterol was "good", he changed his diet in the late 70's and did what he was told, yet his arteries were blocked. It made no sense and I need things to make sense. It blew my mind to find out there's no evidence to support everything we've been told for the last 50+ yrs. Start with, "What exactly is cholesterol? What's it's function in the body? Why do we even have it if it's so bad?". That was my first question and I eventually found Zoe. Maybe one or two will get curious and take up the challenge. If nothing else it might plant a seed in their brains.

I started about 14 months ago with keto then went to Ketovore and now carnivore. I do a lot of YT’g with all of the well-known carnivore doctors and influences. Just turning onto Zoe now and am really impressed with her knowledge and her no nonsense conversation and descriptions.
    I’m down about 55 pounds have a BMI of 24. My clothes fit me great, had to throw out a bunch of them and re-purchase new ones that fit correctly. Lol, I was happy to do that.
    I do find it interesting That more people are not asking me about how I lost the weight. I’m around so many people who have a poor metabolic state, and I am sure insulin resistance. I’ve tried speaking out a few times to people, but it seems to go in one ear and out the other. I’ll keep trying to enlighten people on this way of eating and living. Like Zoe said in the video it’s from the bottom up movement. That’s where I came from.

    I too am angry at how slow the Health Departments are to recognise their dietary advice is what is wrong. Governments are pouring increasing amounts of our money into health treatments for illnesses largely self inflicted due to outdated information. After 30 years of taking medication I got so fed up I looked to You Tube and adopted Keto/Fodmap. Huge improvement, no need for medication. GP not really interested, has to follow Government (health Dept) mandates. Really noticeable was the mental clarity. Wife also changed. Same improvement. Both had a carb binge over Xmas, both had a return of symptoms, mental clarity diminished very noticeably. I've tried vegetarian (as did my wife) but nothing improved things until we realised the guidelines are utter rubbish, even about salt. Enough science is out there now that I just hope more people can discover real food for health. Keep up your good work.

    As an attempting Carnivore/KETOvore, major health transformations in me, husband, kids, doing much lower carb since my health emergency in 2019, fixed fast with the BEAT DIABETES UA-cam channel & Dr Sten Ekberg's channel, I have to say also as a dairy goat hobby farmer, I just can't see how even if we tried and government tried, how we can produce enough natural fats for the entire world's population to have access to the KETOvore style nutrition. There's only so much fat percentage in foods. There's not much ghee at all within a gallon of milk, even the highest fat percentage breed of goats that is like double the best dairy cow breed. I've not yet seen a Carnivore, KETO, or very low carb promoter explain in detail how the world could switch its economies to the low or no carb nutrition recommended to prevent obesity, T2 diabetes, etc.
    Perhaps it's possible, but what would that look like? What would the jobs & education & investments economy look like? Housing, transportation, what all is affected and how?

    This was a great interview. My only concern is that if we’re going to criticise government agencies and the people behind the ring-fenced area of so-called nutrition science, then I think we have a responsibility to use the correct terminology if we want to be taken seriously. Eg we need to get the use of the word ‘calories’ completely out of our lexicon. It has no practical utility and it is completely incorrect. We can’t consume calories, nor can we even remotely or accurately track calorie intake or expenditure.
    Government agencies etc need to cease using the word ‘carcinogen’ because ‘carcino-genesis’ (cancer producing) is a cause and effect statement and there are no experiments in human beings that can inform me on my ‘risk’ of developing cancer from eating any food substance. Such studies would never pass an ethics committee. Data from what happens in a test tube cannot be extrapolated into what happens in the human body any more than a study in rats can.
    The people that contributed in any way towards the production of those ‘healthy-eating’ guidelines should be named and shamed and go to jail.
    Seems like an impossible battle, but I admire anyone that’s willing to stand up and fight the tyranny that exists in this field. Kudos to Zoe and Rich for exposing the truth 🙌🏼👏🏼

    In our town we can only get meat at the supermarket as only one butcher and its not in town. I don't drive so can't get to it. I have not eaten seed oil in years after seeing Toxic Oil by David Gillespie. After watching videos on the carnivore diet I have started to eat more red meat and less cards, fruit. Like yourself eat a little but cutting down on cards.

      I know in some places, some butchers and meat suppliers will deliver, it's finding the good ones that's the hard part. I totally sympathise with your struggle for quality meat suppliers though! Red meat is excellent and well done on avoiding seed oils. It can be a difficult task as it is in a surprising amount of food products, some of which you wouldn't have even thought they would be in! The 8 glasses of water suggestion is rubbish. But I think having a water bottle by one's side and taking a sip every 5 minutes is as well. Our ancestors certainly didn't; why should we? We have hunger and thirst to tell us when to eat and drink, and they work fine. Maybe not making our bodies work on digesting every waking minute is a bad idea

    • @Richard-Smith-Nutrition
      @Richard-Smith-Nutrition  9 місяців тому

      Hello! Ryan here from the Keto-Pro Shop Team, you make a good point about our ancestors, I often promote fasting myself, feeling a little hungry from time to time is a good thing, and giving the body time to rest and repair itself instead of diverting blood flow to focus on digestion is one of the reasons why I promote it to people. When gauging thirst however, it can be a little different. There are multiple factors that can drive the feeling of thirst, however, normally when you are feeling thirsty and your body is prompting you to drink, you have usually lost around 1% of your natural water weight as the feeling of thirst can be produced when the cells have lost about 1 percent of their intracellular water.
      Studies have shown that at this point, physical and cognitive performance decreases. So whilst true our ancestors didn't carry around water bottles or have access to it 24/7, it doesn't necessarily mean that it was the optimal state to be in. Of course, it isn't possible to run studies on this on how they would have been, but going off the information we have now regarding water and hydration status, and how that affects function, I imagine ancestors that perhaps settled near a constant water supply, would arguably have had better physical and cognitive function relative to their usual capacity as opposed to those that didn't have constant access to water.
      Water, unlike food is absorbed, rather than digested and is typically done so in under 5 minutes, so it wouldn't impact the bodies ability to heal in the way food digestion would. Hope this helps! And thank you for watching and interacting - Ryan, Keto-Pro Shop Team

      @@Richard-Smith-Nutrition I tend to think if we did it for millions of years, we adapted to it and it IS optimal. I'd like to learn more. I think Dr. Ken Berry mentioned this and it makes sense

    • @Richard-Smith-Nutrition
      @Richard-Smith-Nutrition  9 місяців тому +1

      @@cogline I'm not arguing that it's not doable, I would say there is a difference between surviving and thriving though. Can we survive without having water on us and staying hydrated at all times like our ancestors? sure, heck, the majority of people do that anyway as people hardly drink water or much fluid at all. However is it optimal? from nearly every study done, it would suggest not. I think you would be hard pressed to find overwhelming evidence where someone would perform better dehydrated or not at optimal hydration, over being optimally hydrated in physical or mental performance.
      If you look at athletes who cut weight for example (granted it is a more extreme example as they loose more water weight than your average person not carrying around water, but a closer example to if ancestors were a day or 2 say, away from water) such as combat athletes. They have a certain amount of time to rehydrate, IV rehydrating is banned (due to the unfair advantage of rehydrating much quicker and to optimal levels in short time). It is well documented, that after a big cut, they still are not, in some cases, even close to being well hydrated. and this has shown performance drastically drop, from cardio and muscle endurance output, strength, cognitive ability and has shown to lead to make them less durable to damage (increased knockout rate).
      I love to learn, I will definitely check out Dr Ken Berry's views to see what he is saying on it. Do you know anyone else who has a similar view to him on it? (curiosity to see what others are saying also).
      I appreciate the friendly discourse though, always interesting to see others views and discuss them for sure - Ryan, Keto-Pro Shop Team

    does the body actually work out calories? i thought that was one of the big nonsenses.
    isn't it the body somehow can sense the nutrient content and that is why appetite works.
    if you just eat high calorie things like chocolate even with megadoses of calories the appetite does not turn off because they are foods empty of nutrients.
    perhaps my understanding is wrong?

    • @Richard-Smith-Nutrition
      @Richard-Smith-Nutrition  9 місяців тому +2

      Technically, a calorie isn't a physical thing in a sense in the way that say, protein, carbohydrates and fat are, which are made up of different types of molecules. Calories and calorie content are measurements of energy as a unit within food, and not something that can be physically seen under a microscope. (Think of it in the same realm of time, it isn't physically present, but a measurement of something).
      Your body does indeed, sense nutrients as it uses nutrients to fuel, replace and maintain levels in the body, as nutrients are a physical thing.
      It is correct that while things like chocolate being "calorie dense" you can eat a lot of it and still be hungry, partially because it doesn't contain much nutrition, and specifically doesn't contain nutrients that are satiating. But also, because carbohydrates (and sugars which is a carb) spikes insulin levels, and you get hungry.
      Another factor is lectins in foods like carbohydrates and seed oils, these lectins block the absorption of leptin, which also causes hunger
      Hope this makes sense - Ryan, Keto-Pro Shop Team

Re. fats/oils, the advice was to limit adding it & swap saturated fat to unsaturated, not to increase it. And what cereal products have increased? Highly processed sugar laden refined carb breakfast cereals, or the advised wholegrain cereals? So you are wrong about people following the given advice.
