Andrew Helton I was at the May 27 2009 game. Zambrano got booted. I was walking down from cheap seats and kept hearing Cheers. It was cold as Alska that day and why we left early. Eventually, I will watch this as many times as I've watched 5th inning of game 5 of last year's NLDS. Thank you, Nats, for the memories! Oh, and for filling up my UA-cam "Favorites" folder.
Before tonight, just 28 players in Major League history have connected for an "ultimate grand slam" -- a grand slam coming with that player's team down by three runs for the final at-bat. Tonight, David Bote joins that list as the 29th player.
BlackKnight03 And considering it came on game point (the final strike)...damn. Braves, Cardinals, and more rejoice for a day; Nationals and Brewers are not happy. But still better than a month and a half to go.
This game and the game the day before were my first games at Wrigley Field, and holy cow what a night I’ll never forget. I can’t believe the history that I witnessed here, the biggest play you can imagine in the game of baseball, and by a rookie pinch hitter to boot. I didn’t see any David Bote jerseys for sale in the Cubs store before the game, but I bet tomorrow they won’t be able to stock enough to keep on the racks. The few people who decided to leave early will tell lies for the rest of their lives about when they saw this game.
some guy on a Cubs facebook fan page was talking crap about how bad our pitching was and that we lost 3-0, you can imagine the ripping he got from the real fans who stayed to witness the Super Grand Slam (only the 29th in MLB history)
No no no we don't need Harper we have enough position players and they can hit just work on the pitching we need another starter can't count on chat wood or darvish Lester will fine down the stretch what an addition of Hamel and kinzler PLEASE CUBS CONCENTRATE ON PITCHING
If this doesn't propel them into getting ahead of the Brewers on Tuesday and Wednesday and beating them into the ground then nothing will after a big win like this.
Cubs starting pitching is a big question mark with Jon Lester pitching like a pinata getting whack since the All-Star break. I think he has a tired arm. The Cubs will be lucky if Lester gets three quality starts from this point on until the season ends. Only Cole Hamel is consistent with the pitching
Michael Takahashi I know you haven’t been a big fan of baseball for too long being a cubs fan but if you think the cardinals issues are pitching related you are an idiot lol.
Michael Takahashi Our rotation has allowed like 7 runs in the past 5 games lmao. If the offense can produce and the bullpen stays the way it has been since the reconstruction of said bullpen cardinals could win the division and or get a wildcard at the very least. Cubs starting rotation is absolutely horrid lmaoooooo
Very uncharacteristically of myself, I "gave up" and turned off the game in a fit of pessimistic disappointment after Zimmerman's 2-run hit in the top of the 9th. Boy, do I feel like a big 'ol dummy. Lesson learned, Professor Bote. I'll never give up on these Cubbies again.
