I've used the Cravar workpack for nearly a year now, travelling with it and using it nearly every day for work and leisure. It's really stable and sits on the floor, and it does get a lot more pliable over the months I've used (abused) it. It does feel bulky and unwieldy at times with the design being a bit rigid and boxy, but you know you're getting a lot for the money with the quality of the leather, and how thick it feels.
Out of curiosity, how happy would you be with it as a travel bag? Like, folding up clothes and stowing away toiletries inside it, taking it as a carry-on item perhaps? I'm torn between Cravar and Satchel & Page's backpacks. It's pretty clear to me that S&P's product is better for packing, since it opens out flat clamshell-style while with Cravar's bag you can really only reach in from the top whenever you want anything. But Cravar's bag seems less likely to suffer from structural failures since it doesn't use zippers In practice, does it feel like you could comfortably get what you needed in and out of the Cravar bag without issue? Or is that use case one of those situations where you might find the bag to be too unwieldy? If you had to buy a carry-on or travel backpack, would you still buy the Cravar given your experience with it over the past year or so? Cheers!
@@Gilamath. Your observations are more or less on point. I've used it as a travel bag as a carry-on for flights, and I usually stow it underneath my seat. It does peak out a little underneath because it is a bit tall, but not anything excessive. I've put in a down jacket, some toiletries, a bottle, umbrella and documents/laptop and it fit fine. I too was considering S&P, but where I'm located (not in the US), it's not economical as I pay nearly 1.5x the price after taxes. I can't say much for the quality of S&P because I don't have it (though I have heard good things). Sure, the zippers will probably make the S&P bag easier and more intuitive to use initially, but durability wise the leather straps that affix to the brass tacks are by far more sturdy and feel more 'premium', even after over a year of abuse. Initially, the brass buttons were a bit tight, but now they affix to the straps fine, and I've gotten used to it. I would say to some extent I prefer this over a zipper, which annoyingly can get caught or stuck - both of which you don't get with the Cravar. The pockets are also relatively easy to access once you undo the top. One downside I would say is that the construction is very sturdy and rugged, and to make it this sturdy it does feel a bit stiff sometimes because of the leather's thickness. What I appreciate though, the straps are thick and well-padded, and the back is stiff so it provides good support. This means when I go on long walks/hikes, I don't feel like my shoulders are dying because the weight is better distributed. If I had to choose again, I would go for the Cravar - both on price and quality. Though if I were based in the US, Satchel and Page might be my go-to, given that if there are any issues it's probably easier to deal with them instead.Hope it sheds some light and helps you make a better purchase decision!
An important consideration for me is security when wearing a backpack. After much searching, I eventually settled on a very inconspicuous black Macsafe bag with anti-theft protection.
As a backpack reviewer and being over 40 I always was a huge advocate of backpacks. Health reasons is one of the most important factors. Thanks for this video
Thank for putting some spotlight on leather backpacks. I got the Bowen from CF last year when heading back to the office and not only does it look professional but also very sleek and minimal and great for professional settings.
I would add for your consideration Capra Leather bags. Warrantee and repair, quality leather, and high transparency. I bought a Tamarao in black. It looks really good in office settings.
@@Stridewise Any updates on the Satchel & Page mega review? I have their map case and a few small carry items that I love, and I'd love to hear your and Troy's take on their stuff. I'm so torn between their backpack and Cravar's
Another excellent video Nick. I agree with you 100% about Satchel and Page. I just bought my wife S&P’s Gladstone, a weekender travel bag. The same one as the one your colleague was carrying on the roof, in the video. It’s a great bag. My wife loves it. Well worth the money. Keep up the great work. Happy New Year. Ed.

Would you kindly post a video review or at least a video showing the bag in good lighting and the interior? Been wondering how their black products would turn out but haven’t seen any videos!
The Knack Series 1 Medium Leather Expandable Knack Pack is a great travel backpack or for overnight trips, with its expandable suitcase compartment. It does fit a 16” Macbook, although a tight fit. It’s discontinued but they still have them in stock. I use mine as an everyday work bag, as well.
Can you review some Frank Clegg backpacks and duffle bags or any of their leather products? I think they are one of the most under rated luxury American brands. Please check them out.

Stride, is there any chrismas sales going on of the products you talk about in your channel? If not, can you contact them and hook us up with some discounts. I was looking for some sales so that I can get winter clothing, shoes and gloves etc.
Really nice products. I picked up a very nice leather backpack from a company Moore & Giles. 10% discount for new customers. The model is The Reclaimed Backpack. Very similar to the first bag in your video. I use it often and it’s holding up well. Merry Christmas to all .

1:52 Speaking of satchel and page “life time warranty”, if you are not in the US, they will make you pay for shipping. Buyer be aware! Speaking of personal experience from Canada. So depending on how much the shipping cost you, it may not be worth it to ship back for repair.
It depends on the leather. High quality horsehide used for premium leather jackets are stiff as a board initially, which you then break in over time. This is not what luxury brands use, though. I'm not a fan of this, so I opt for goat leather - much softer and lighter from day 1.
After visiting Vietnam, I find it very, very hard to justify spending over $100 usd on a leather bag. These things costs less than $30 to make. The design takes the most brain and effort. Just copying them is easy for these people here. For example, they sell fake Tumi bags (alpha 3 brief pack full leather) that are indistinguishable from the real ones, for less than $100 usd. And re passing down to grandchildren, uhh I don’t think they would want it 😅. Which kid gets excited to use their grandpa’s backpack from 40 years ago 😅
I totally agree about who seriously wants their grandad’s ancient leather bag. Much though I would love to use my late father’s old leather briefcase the fact of the matter is it’s knackered through decades of heavy use and while it has some sentimental value it would be completely impractical to use!
