This boat was completely wrecked in the perfect storm,Gannon and Benjamin marine railway brought it back to life in Martha’s Vinyard.I worked many 100’s of hours on this boat including interior and exterior and hand block planning the whole side of its mahogany hull, then the sander of death. It was a labor of love, even crying as I worked on it was that hard. But it has come out wonderful.Gannon and Benjamin marine railway deserves full credit for this boat being here today. When I first started working on it even I questioned if it would ever sail again. It was that bad.Gannon and Benjamin have supreme vision and are some of the best wooden boat builders of our time!
When And If has been summering in my home port of Salem Mass. We love seeing her out in the bay when we are out sailing. There is another Schooner in Salem called Fame (A Pinky schooner), when these two beauties pass close together, it is quite a sight!
This is so cool!! I had no idea there was an Alden that made these! Freaking crazy stuff. Boats freak me out a bit. ( Grew up in Iowa) This thing looks absolutely amazing though.. Just beautiful
Oh my goodness, what a fantastic sailing vessel the WhenandIf is! Who knew that the and American General would love sailing!? Seth and his crew are to be congratulated on putting it all together and keeping history alive and well at sea. Thanks so much for sharing this with all of us!
You bet. Happy to. We were definitely excited about what Seth and his crew have done and continue to do. It's an amazing thing to keep such a vision alive. We appreciate you watching!
Wonderful history within history.. Maritime history is part of the magic You get big kudos for your channel.. Thank you! SV Venceremos out of San Diego.
I love seeing these old boats with a history behind them. This was the first I've heard about any Patton connection to boats and sailing ... Thanks Annie! I hope I see them sometime this summer up in the Northeast.
I really enjoy your boat tours. Especially unique boats like this one. It was cool to see you reach out and touch things. Real wood craftsmanship is rare and beautiful! I get it! I really do!
One of my fav episodes. Yessa. Like the shot of stern with good ole Rhode Island on her. Will have to check her out this summer when up in our cruising grounds. Thanks you two for the tour. Well done as always.
Wow, thank you riboaters! We're glad you enjoyed the tour and sail. It definitely was a fun and exciting boat to be invited on. Thanks again Seth for the hospitality. Definitely go check them out when they're up in Boston if you can.
Alden made many beautiful boats, his early sailing ones were works of functional art. there's a bunch on the west coast, and one old 1924 27-30ft sloop near me, so pretty and still fast :) This boat is exceptional and I'm needing a mop and bucket for the drool I'm about to produce, hey, I'm only 12seconds in eh :D
I've got to say I've seen a lot of sailing UA-cam channels. But your videos are just exquisitely edited and they tell a story that is always captivating. Nice work! :D
Hi Annie, great vlog as always, I could just walk on her now and know ever part of her. It was a thing to know ever part of the tall ship I was on , even those mast hoops and parrels you put your hand on . And you did say I would like what was coming up and you are right.
Couldn't agree with you more. Well, except for our boat. Nothing looks more perfect than our boat. ha! Then schooners are a close second. Thanks for watching!
I wonder if this is the same boat. While sailing in Marblehead Harbour, MA back in the early 80's I came across a boat that I was told once belonged to Gen. Patton. I don't remember it as a schooner but my perspective was a little off, I was in an 11 foot pram.
Few people realize that Patton was independently wealthy....perhaps the wealthiest of all US military officers of his day....and therefore had no need for his "job" as an officer. He served his country because he felt it was his duty and destiny.
1:36 been workin on this wind turbine... *if i could just make it really efficient, and look like that, I'm pretty sure i can sell that idea!* I been goin about it all wrong... 🤷♂️
She broke her mooring in Manchester mass and broke up on little misery island insurance company totaled it but yacht builder and restorer bought it and completely rebuilt it Bengimin and Gammon from vineyard haven actually saved her

I got to see her when she visited Hyannis about 5 years ago. Beautiful boat.

I saw it at the ferry dock in Salem, Mass last summer. The Fame is a replica ; the original was built in nearby Essex, Mass.

Awesome! Thank you for sharing. Cool history on the yacht.
Nice job! Great to see the energy put to keeping her proud.
Agreed, thank you Blue Highway!

MAGNIFICO
Lovely. Nothing quite as magic as a schooner. Not sure why - they just look right.
Couldn't agree with you more. Well, except for our boat. Nothing looks more perfect than our boat. ha! Then schooners are a close second. Thanks for watching!
Fantastic boat. Thanks for sharing.

Really enjoyed this video, thanks.
You bet! We appreciate you watching. Thank you!
Awesome boat.
What can I say about a beautiful video about a beautiful vessel that belonged to Generals Patton? Well the only thing I can say is TANKS.
That's awesome, I see what you did there.... }:‑)
Ooojhhhhhhh myyyy ggggg I love that boat!!!! I'm a couple hours from Newport Ri go to the Hinckley Boat yard amazing board there too🙌
my father and grandfather pendleton, and even i.. prefer varnished clear coated boats always!
Very Cool
Neat history lesson :) If I were 25 or 30, I might not be too concerned about such things. Ah the passage of time...
I am 67 and I wouldn't be worried at all about the passage time.

Yes same boat it also crashed up on misery island after breaking mooring and was a total loss but was saved and there it is

Wow, great addition to the video here. Thanks for adding that Norman. Really appreciate it.
Neat video. Knew he liked horses but didn't know he was into sailing.
He could have named her "Slap Happy."
Ha, that's funny. Thanks Jimmy. It definitely was a beautiful boat.

3-D print the pump for the sink... ;-)
She's a beauty pity he didn't get to live his dream.
She broke her mooring in Manchester mass and broke up on little misery island insurance company totaled it but yacht builder and restorer bought it and completely rebuilt it Bengimin and Gammon from vineyard haven actually saved her
The club footed staysail is an abomination.
Taking these old and un-rebuilt wooden schooners on a world cruise is often a
fools errant -- easy to throw a plank in weather -- think NINA.
I am very surprised no one is wearing life jackets on board would never leave my berth without my life jacket on and I have been sailing over 50Yrs.
