This man spent the best days of his life on this boat. He doesn't really want to sell it. I can see tears in his eyes as he tells us how much he loves it. My mom kept her sail boat docked in the marina without sailing it for about 43 years after her husband died. She couldn't part with all of her romantic memories. 😥
This was a surprise in my "feed"... I have a model of this type of schooner - with a different bow shape, but just as beautiful. Rarely seen in the waters of Poole Harbour, Dorset, UK, I, nonetheless, yearn to see this type of vessel "strike" the waters in Poole Bay. Lovely presentation. a boat I can only dream of sailing in. Thankyou.
Sara Jane is one beautiful boat. Very nice presentation by the broker. Best yachtworld posting, related pictures, and video I have ever seen to show a boat
Fabulous video apart from the sound. What about showing the entire yacht. That includes hull and masts. A schooner is rather unique with the mast at the back being taller. Also, why is that?! I love this schooner. She is devine!!!!
larger mast in the back i would think make it so most of the power form the wind is "pushing" the ship rather than "pulling" and since a ship is steered from the rear it makes turning the bow more sharply possible/more effective.
@@ForgotowToUserName I think the aft larger sail-plan was designed to be most effective running with the wind, for the 'clipper route' for world trade in the roaring forties - using the prevailing strong easterlies for round the world trade.
I wish you hadn't given the price. That would actually be just at the edge of doable for me. Of course, I'd have to sell everything I have and give up eating for a while and would have to keep under sail full time as I wouldn't be able to afford slip/mooring fees. But man, wouldn't that be a cool boat to live aboard and sail. I wonder if it comes with a parrot; or, if I'd have to supply my own.
@@rickyd0821 That's a good one! Just saying, Wood=tons of maintenance (regardless of what my wooden boat repair customer says) She was fit and looking good 3 years ago? She needs a ton of maintenance now. I'll go glass, but she's a beautiful looking craft for someone with money coming out of where that toilet paper goes.
What strikes me is how much she looks like a miniature model of a much larger vessel. Very cool. And I don't mind the layout at all. It's a classic working boat design. As crew, you worked hard on deck all day and after your watch, you ate your stew, and slept like a deadman in the salon with the other snoring guys. Needs a schooner man as new owner who can appreciate this. Hope she went to good hands
What a beautiful ship, what a beautiful memory. When she "...made her way on her own bottom from Texas to Newport..." she visited Baltimore, there I saw her, quite close, as she tacked very smartly in the crowded confines of Baltimore's Inner Harbor. The most beautiful, the most perfect ship I have ever seen.
Does Sarah Jane have traditional keeling design stem to stern. Is the bow and stem much deeper than the stern.? Can Edison generators and dynamos easily replace fossil fuels in the hull?
generally, when people don't show an asking price, it means they're hiding something or they're selective pricing as per their opinion of buyer. All the other sites selling vehicles (cars, boats, planes) that I have seen, show an asking price and update the price on a regular basis as long as the item is advertised. All that being said, I love the look of this craft and feel it would be a worthwhile investment. Also, you might want to edit and completely view your videos before posting them (more specifically, make sure your audio is balanced).
Agree on audio. Certainly can't watch this one at work as everyone will know what you're doing(!) Pricing difficult with UA-cam as annotations no longer are available. I put the pricing on the website listing and/or YachtWorld along with details regarding price reductions, changes, etc..
Pretty boat, but, for passage-making, there are some major shortcomings in the layout. The worst is the engine position. Heaven knows how people in the cabin immediately aft will sleep while it's running, quite apart from the oily smell that must permeate the whole interior of the boat. The chart table is right under the companionway where spray and rain will ruin it - and your charts. The rope-locker is reached via someone's berth. That's a curse for anyone either on-watch and needing ropes or off-watch and sleeping. A lesser issue is the location of the instruments; they're partially hidden when the companionway doors are open.
The boat has sailed from Texas to Florida and then eventually up to Maine. Certainly fine for coastal. Bahamas, and Caribbean perhaps. Prep accordingly.
She is beautiful, but! It is very easy to make adverse comments about her. I spent years working on, and sailing yachts. The no: 1 thing is what are you going to use her for. 2, The layout is not the most friendly for passage making. At 4:10, the galley. This is a high traffic area to the Fore Deck? I would not like to try and cook for six people in that area in a pitching sea. When they have just been overhauled, they are at their best. I would not crew her on my own. Minium 3 people. Engine noise and fumes. Not great for Mal der Mer. I think this was someone's project. You can have lots of fun with her, but you will need deep pockets to run her, and look after her. Thanks for video.
Hi David, you need to think 1930's! This is a typical Murray Peterson Schooner design. Has all the bells and whistles of what was once in popular use. You can single hand but two crew is sufficient. Engine is quiet. Fumes are controlled. In the area where the boat is now there are at least 25 similar looking boats that have been in constant use with some of them in service for over a century. For offshore there are lots of boats made of other materials and have aluminum masts with specific hull designs to choose from. Remember, this is a Murray Peterson Coastal III. You'll find its fine for its intended application.
@@ROCKNAKSYACHTSALESINC Thankyou for your kind reply. Yes you are right in this regard. This Yacht is for someone out there. As you get long in the tooth, the days of hand steering in bad weather do not hold the same attractions they use to. Keep safe. Regards David.
Great presentation, but the thumbnail doesn’t do it justice. I almost passed you up, but glad I didn’t. She is absolutely beautiful. I hope the new owner gives her the love and attention she deserves. Thanks and good luck Scott.
sailed on a tiny bit smaller Shooneryacht on a festival in the Baltic build in venice, italy under deck floor made out of olivwood something wich you find no where else. but she was tiny cant imagine doing a charter trip on her because you dont fit into the small bunks.
beautiful schooner and in good shape! It seems to me, that it is only for those who likes old school boats and have opportunities to hold this. Modern boats are more convenient.
the only scary thing about the boat is being ripped off by yards for haul outs. Old wooden boat in the states?..., Good luck with that!.... Haul out in south America....
Some rose- colored sales talk here. This boat would be a pain in the neck in the ICW, and Anything over six foot draft is pretty limiting in the Bahamas.
Well, Jim, the boat is for sale and you can come see it and spend all the time you'd like! But, I see you may be in Australia and are locked in for the foreseeable future so I guess the youtube distraction will have to do for now. In the meantime I'll pose on one of the several hundred other boats I've been involved with. Have fun down there! PS Nice airplane.
This is possibly the worst sales video I have seen. The Narrator seems like a nice fellow, but you do not have to be in every single scene. How bout getting out of the way so we can see the boat?
I didn't see not one cannon.....not even a swivel gun.....how would defend against high seas pirates and nautical crack heads? I know that a good run beats a bad stand but it would a require a 454 and a bravo 3 just to pull off a moderate "run"......are gonna at least throw in a box of tacks to spread on the deck like slocom ?
Everyone from Maine knows that these boats have TORPEDO TUBES! That, and an AEGIS system under the center hatch. Swivel guns are so passe! And, its the only schooner with a surface piercing cleaver prop attached to a turbine out of a surplus Mig that got lost.

Are there companies that build big wood hulled schooners like this?

The biggest thing you overlooked....imagine 'sailing' her in the Carib.
No protection....and to build protection takes away from her lines.
Why is the price a secret ?
Is there a website where I can learn/see more? Does she have the scantlings for blue water or is she more of a costal creature?
