I want to thank you, Mikey. I have made 3 blankets so far. The instructions were easy to follow. You made crocheting fun. I am starting a new blanket today. ☺️
You are a crotchets. Dream come true I have multiple of my grandmothers blanket she crotchet she was a granny squaring fool!! I have one blanket I could not figure out it was in long strips & I decided to watch your utube rectangle granny blanket when you finished the turning to start on the other side I broke out in tears my grandmothers blanket 😂 Thank You Thank You you are awesome keep up the good work like my granny you make it look so easy!! I know it's practice but after suffering a stroke I tend to get a death grip on my yarn I have been known to break it but with patience & practice I'm getting my groove!! The starting chain is the most difficult for me!!
I just love this rectangular granny blanket. I made a square one first, then found this tutorial. I am now addicted! I'm up to my fourth one, since earlier this year. thank you Mikey and Crochet crowd, you are fantastic!!
Great tut Mickey as always! For those that are going to ask.... the pattern calls for 12 7 oz skeins of solid, 2 ea of 6 colors. (Or substitute 3 skeins (5oz) of the variegated or umber for each solid color replaced.) So divide the number of colors into 12 and you will know how much of each to buy. Also, since you can sometimes get a great bargain on one pounders, if you are doing 3 colors try 2 one pound skeins instead of 4 7oz. Happy hooking!!!
Very easy if you know how to make granny squares and even if you don’t, he explains it very well. Going to make afghans for my 2 nieces and nephew for Christmas
Thank you so much ! Great video!!!!! I was looking for an easy pattern. At our SDA Inverness Church we do Prayer blanket"s and Shawls. This was beautiful and easy!!!!! Have a Blessed day!!!!!
Thank you so much for this! I am repairing a friends afghan her grandmother made her and have to make the middle 6 rows and join it with the body. This is exactly the pattern
I’m not changing colors and am working with Cotton Kings Twirls which changes colors on it’s own. My question is, how do you do the next round when not changing colors? I kind of have it worked out, but would love your advice. Thanks! This is a great tutorial, by the way!😁
Hello Micky. I love following you videos. You make following so simple. I have a question, I need to make this granny blanket but I need to add a monogram letter to it. I need to add a G in the center because I am making a Georgia Bulldogs blanket. Would you be able to help me, or explain to me how I can add a G to this project. Thank you
Hi Mikey...thanks for a great tutorial. Can I just ask a quick question. When I make the traditional granny square I never put a "chain 1" space between my 3 double crochets. Can I do that for this pattern as well? Or is there a need for the chain 1 space, or just personal preference. Thanks again ;)
+Renee Wallace Renee, i have done it both ways and i believe it is a matter of preference. It depends on how open you want it. But you will use a little more yarn to make the same size.
I cant give you an exact number, but just my best guess and reasoning. Since longer means skinnier, contrary to what you would expect when trying to make something bigger, you would want to make the foundation chain shorter. A king size bed is basically a square, and equal to two xl twins, so...I'd cut it in half to make a king, and I'd guess you want it to be around 3/5ths to 3/4ths as long as the twin foundation chain to make a queen. Not sure for this one, but for other granny rectangles I've done (and the math seems to check out), the foundation chain needs to be factors of 3 plus 2.
I would like smaller gaps for this blanket. I’m thinking like skipping 2 not three and ch 2 at the corners not three. How does that affect the overall pattern?
my grandson wants one for his single bed how many chains would i need. his birthday is in June so i need to get cracking i like the rectangular shape lol.
Send help!!!! My rectangle has become an oval in the center. By chaining up in the corners will this get me back on track? I'm so far into the project I would hate to have to start again.
This is embarrassing, & idk if anyone can help me, but I'm working on this crochet blanket & almost done. I was gonna change the very last row around as a different color as a "boarder" but I'm having a hard time finding my ending point so far in.... what do I do?
I'm a little confused . At 3:00 - 3:02, you are at the end of 3dc - but you didn't 1sc before doing corner. Am I not to continue with the pattern of 3dc + 1sc?????
Hi Mikey! I have been looking for a rectangle granny or rectangular modern granny blanket that works with Caron Big Cakes' striping pattern. Do you know of any of the "rectangle Granny" blanket tutorials on here that are meant for the Big Cakes. thaI just bought 3 colorways of Caron Big Cakes yarn. I bought 4 cakes per colorway.. and I'm having problems finding rectangle blanket patterns (except for the waves from Yarnspirations) for this lovely yarn.
Maschelle Mashburn I actually like this tutorial better he at least breathes in it. The modern is lovely but I’ve watched the video at least 5 times slowed it down paused it and finally got so irritated I left a pretty negative comment that probably won’t get any feed back☹️ I’m a seasoned crocheted person done granny for years maybe it’s me. I just wish he’d slow the hell down sometimes 😊.
Check out the link I included in my follow-up comment. While it says the queen should be done as a typical square granny, I'm sure the double could be the starter and just slightly enlarged. My previous thought on doing a granny that way have changed after seeing my son sleep in both a double & queen. The kid is too tall & needs a king to fit his long legs, so a king size blanket will eventually have to be made!
I've began thia afghan with a variegated yarn. I don't want to change color just yet. I'm at the spot where you changed color. How do I proceed without changing color? Do I just chain 3 and skip to the next space?
Slip stitch from the finished round till you get to the corner gap. Then slip stich into the corner gap and chain 3 for your first “double crochet” of the next round.
I want to thank you, Mikey. I have made 3 blankets so far. The instructions were easy to follow. You made crocheting fun. I am starting a new blanket today. ☺️
Thank you, Mikey. You're my crochet rockstar

I just love this rectangular granny blanket. I made a square one first, then found this tutorial. I am now addicted! I'm up to my fourth one, since earlier this year. thank you Mikey and Crochet crowd, you are fantastic!!
I really enjoyed the way you talked us through these steps. I had other patterns but could not understand. Thanks again.
You’re welcome 😊

Very easy if you know how to make granny squares and even if you don’t, he explains it very well. Going to make afghans for my 2 nieces and nephew for Christmas

adding this to my list of projects.

I’m sorry I can’t understand patterns or crochet book. I’m a visual learner. Thank you 🙏😊. I’m also a beginner and slow, lol.
That crochet granny rectangle is almost like the Mile-A-Minute afghan.
At the end of the first round do you turn and work the other way for this pattern?
How many stitches should the beginning chain consist of for a queen sized bed?
I cant give you an exact number, but just my best guess and reasoning.

How many skeins of yarn (# 4) does it take for this size Afghan ?
Thanks
What if your using a varagated yarn is it still the same for rounding the corner to go back around
Çok güzel süper olmuş
I have some blanket yarn, can anyone tell be how many chains to start with? I want it for a twin bed. Thanks
thanks !
Awsome :)
Thanks.
Do you think this would work with the VStitch or the Double crochet
Send help!!!! My rectangle has become an oval in the center. By chaining up in the corners will this get me back on track? I'm so far into the project I would hate to have to start again.
What is the difference between this one and the modern GRANNY? And will the it get wider?
This is embarrassing, & idk if anyone can help me, but I'm working on this crochet blanket & almost done. I was gonna change the very last row around as a different color as a "boarder" but I'm having a hard time finding my ending point so far in.... what do I do?
I want to make the rectangle, but can it be done so it's a solid granny instead of the spaces?
If I want to make this smaller what do I need to do my chain in multiples of?
How many chains l need for a full, queen and kin rectangular blanket?
I have chunky thick wool calls for 18 mm UK size can this work with that size?
If you don’t want to change colours after your first round…how do you continue on after you slip stitch to join?
Slip stitch to the where I would normally start the next round.
I'm a little confused . At 3:00 - 3:02, you are at the end of 3dc - but you didn't 1sc before doing corner. Am I not to continue with the pattern of 3dc + 1sc?????
Can you do this in thick blanket yarn
What are the multiples if you wanted to make it smaller or larger?
Mzdiana I’m wondering the same thing
Mikey is there a rectangle granny square pattern that doe not have such a big gap?
so do you just continue until you get the length of blanket you want?
Elizabeth Smith yes
did you not do this blanket before?

Broken link to pattern. Any idea where it is located now? Thanks.
Hi Crochet Crowd. The link in the more information for the video seem to be broken. Hope you are able to fix it soon. Thanks
If making a queen size blanket with bernat super chunky & size P hook, how many initial chains will I need?! TY!!
Hey! Nevermind, look what I found!! Isn't google great...
thecrochetcrowd.com/rectafghans/
Toni did you ever find how many stories you start off with ? I am want to make my son a queen size blanket

Mikey how would the center piece be worked for the crib size ?
I've began thia afghan with a variegated yarn. I don't want to change color just yet. I'm at the spot where you changed color. How do I proceed without changing color? Do I just chain 3 and skip to the next space?
Darkb4light 06 if you look on the writing in the video it explains
Jessica Whitson I think I have it figured out. it's too hard to read the words on the screen
To me it looks like you're using half double crochet. Is That what you mean to say or am I wrong?
Isabeau Adkison it is double crochet for the us . In UK terms it is tr crochet if I remember correctly
Can you a multiple of rows of the same color or do you have to switch?
You can change as often or as little as you wish.
what if your working with a variegated yarn?
Hi Mikey, can I make this afghan in one color?
Julie Valliere yes I am and it looks great!
How many skeins of each colour in 100g balls?
chain 31for the full or double size bed
can you make it a queen size that measures 90x90.
Mikey(or anyone with the answer), I have a noob question. How do I continue a 2nd round of the same color??
Slip stitch from the finished round till you get to the corner gap. Then slip stich into the corner gap and chain 3 for your first “double crochet” of the next round.
