I’m not a beginner, I’m over 70 and taught myself to crochet when I had my first baby at 21. I’ve used this stay at home time to complete 4 baby Afghans and trimmed several receiving blankets for two friends who are going to be grandmothers for the first time. It’s a great hobby. Good luck.

You made this tutorial so easy for an absolute beginner like me. Till today I never even picked up a ball of yarn or crochet needle so I can't believe i have actually made a granny square and have been able to do this! Shabna Shahid I know this is an old comment but I totally agree with you. My mom sat and helped me crochet a granny square for 3 hours, and now I'm trying to do one on my own... not as easy to start! She definitely made one of the best tutorials around! My Mom was getting frustrated because I didn't get what she was explaining so now that I can make my own I just let her think that she taught me that! 😂 all in all when my Mom's happy, the family is happy... this video was a life saver!!
This is the 1st video I've watched for crocheting. While having absolutely no idea of how to do it.. After 4 or 5 tries. I ended up making the whole granny square. I am so happy and proud of myself I can't even explain. Thank u so so much for this video. Love ya.
I genuinely appreciate that you repeated each step along the way, even if I had already done it a dozen times. The repetition is so beneficial to my learning process. Your tutorial is the only one I was able to follow in one sitting.
After a few hours of practicing I started my granny square blanket for my great granddaughter. I am a visual learner and Bella’s videos are easy to learn by. Now if I could understand the written directions.
It took me two and a half hours to get through this video but honestly it as so worth it. You demonstrated/explained it so well and my first ever granny square came out so nice. Thanks for the help! 😊
Wow! Thank you for the tutorial, after 3 unraveled practices, and 2 hrs later I was able to make my very first granny square. New to crocheting, all I’ve made is beanies with loom- so this was fun and very excited to continue!!
Thank goodness for you. I was taught by my Grandmother about 60 years ago and used to make blankets, hats and hot water bottle covers. I then was taught knitting and kept up with that, until now. I had forgotten everything then you reminded me and I thank you for that and your very easy to follow instructions. Take care.
Omg I have been trying to do this for 44 years!!! I started crochet at 5 years old. Never could do this. Everyone has tried to teach me. I watched this and literally just made my first one and I am so darn proud of myself.
Perfect tutorial, I have been crocheting around 15 years (self taught), and could only make scrubbies, infinity scarfs, basic hats, and blankets using a few different stitches. But I’ve always wanted to learn the Granny Square! This was a fantastic video, I love the depth of explanation, even though I am not a beginner of crochet, but I am for Granny Squares, this was 10/10
Is there a written pattern that goes with the video? I need something to look at to remember as well as the video. This is teaching a 74 old guy who knits how to crochet and I can't remember what goes next half the time! Thanks
Thank you so much for a great lesson! You were recommended to me by a friend and she has been crocheting for over 40 years!! Now, if I can only get mine to look like yours......LOL
After 3 years of wanting to crochet, I finally decided to just follow your tutorial and actually made my first every crochet square. My joy knows no bounds and thank you for a wonderful tutorial
Wow. This was the first video I found after searching for awhile where someone taught/explained this well enough that I was able to actually make my first granny square. So excited. Thank you!!
Why does everytime i try this or any other tutorial, my ‘project’ just starts to look like a ball and its all lumpy. I can never get it to look flat no matter how many times i try
maybe when you put your slip stitch into something to complete the row it turns out like that? for example, you put the stitch into the 4th ‘V’ instead of the 3rd ‘V’. Maybe your tension for the yarn and hook is too tight and you’re maybe using the wrong hook? just trying to help :)
I was going to say your tension! you have to keep a consistent tension throughout the project (depending on what you’re doing), i learned the hard way and had many many “lumpy” projects for a while 😂
This is the first video I've followed where the yarn I'm working with as I follow along actually looks kind of like it is supposed to! You're very good at giving direction for beginners. Thank you - I will be saving this video and rewatching forever
I have some parts of my brain damaged so it is really hard for me to follow instructions, but I crocheted with you and didn’t mess up ONCE. Absolute godsend of a woman ❤️😁
I'm the same and I find a lot of instructions too difficult to follow and I give up. This tutorial was very helpful and I successfully did a granny square!
Your other granny square tutorial got me started crocheting back in 2017, I've made one baby blanket and one large blanket following those guidelines. Thank you for sharing!
This by far was the best tutorial I have found, I get easily lost trying to start granny squares, I must have started some 20 of them yesterday, always to fail before I made it to the 2nd round….this video really helped me actually “see” how everything worked together! Thank you so much!
Hi Sarah. I am a new subscriber. I have always wanted to learn to crochet and this year I decided I would make time to actually do it! Your channel has been recommended to me by several crocheters and I just wanted to say that your tutorials are the best. You make the projects so easy to understand and follow and you film so that it is clear to see exactly what to do and where to put your hook. Thank you for making learning crochet less stressful!!! Can I ask, are you planning to bring back your vlogs? I've been going back through all of your uploads and I love your vlogs x
Hi Kellie! Thanks for your message. I feel honoured to have been recommended to you. I’m so pleased the videos helped you in your journey. I now have a whole new channel for lifestyle videos 😊 ua-cam.com/users/sarahjaynefragola (if this link doesn’t work- just search Sarah-Jayne Fragola xx

I just taught myself to crochet feb 15th this year and ive done a blanket to practice my stitches and now im working on learning granny squares. I almost gave up on learning grannys until i came across your beautiful tutorial and now i have 2 perfect squares so far. I keep this video playing as i go ahead and come back to reference points if im a little stuck. Thank you so much for the little tips along the way! I am an absolute beginner and was able to manage nicely. The parts i get stuck on is the little bit before connecting but thats just something i have to figure out for myself. You laid down the pattern perfectly and its up to me to figure it out. ❤ Thank you again.
Thank you! I have fought for years trying to figure out how to make a granny square. This video was the best thing I’ve ever seen. I followed along and now plan too continue with it too make a granny square blanket. Thank you so much!
This was really helpful!!I managed to make loads and sew them together to make my real life horse a rug it took 1 yr but without out you he wouldn’t have a nice and snug crazy rug. Thank you so mutch. -Mintyplayzzz and her horse Midnight.❤
I worked my way through all your beginner videos and now I’ve made my first granny square. Thank you so much for explaining and showing so clearly! I already love crocheting.
Oh my gosh thank you for going through each step slowly and throughly. Also for not fast forwarding through any steps assuming we get it. Best tutorial ever.
You have the patience of a saint! Thank you so much for a fantastic video. I watched all the way through, then purchased a ball of yarn and a 5mm hook, then had you on Stop/Start, and "Ta Da" I have produced my very first respectable-looking Granny Square! 😘
Finally I found a video that genuinely helps and makes it easy to understand how to create a granny square. I’m not an absolute beginner and have made multiple crochet projects but I was afraid to do a granny square bc no other tutorial helped and I’m so glad to have found ur channel and this makes me want to learnt different techniques for a granny square tysm ❤❤
Thank you so much for making this tutorial, and taking the time to slowly walk and talk us through each stitch. I've been trying for AGES to crochet my first granny square, and I must have gone through over a hundred videos, and yours has been the only one that's actually helped me. I've know crocheted my first ever piece (albeit just a square lol), and now feel ready to make some more for my first ever project!
This was so easy to follow I'm not a beginner to crocheting but this was my first attempt at a granny square. This helped so much and I can't wait to show my aunt.❤
Dude she went so fast how I'm not a beginner but I can't do this tut it's way to fast and I have to pause the video every 2 second it's really annoying 😭
@@Harveybloxy it's okay I have been taking lessons from my aunt so I already knew the basics, if you're starting from the very beginning beginning then it's going to be a little harder. Just keep trying and practice you'll get better in no time
I just wanted to say a massive thank you. I learned to crochet watching your channel and my first project was your starburst blanket. Fast forward two years, and many projects later, thanks to a minor stroke, I'm medically retired from work. Due to balance issues, I spend most of my time on my ever widening derriere! I'm relearning to crochet watching your channel, as well as following your journey as a mum on your other channel. You really are an inspiration. I'm hoping the 'birthday fairy' brings me a video camera on Tuesday, as my next recovery goals are to learn to 'UA-cam' and blog. Can't think where that idea came from 😉😉 Thanks again, from another 'Midlander', Dotty xxx
Jane is so pleased you love my videos! Happy birthday for Tuesday. I hope you get the camera! Good luck with vlogging! (You will probably find a video which will be on my other channel soon really handy!) 😊💗
Thank you sooooo much!!!!! This toturial is amazing and i subscribed btw i'm 12 and i got into crochet a few months back, bcuz i started knitting when i was 9 and found ur channel which was about crochet so i wanted to try it out and now im pretty good at crochet!😁❤
I'm trying crochet for the first time and this video was amazing!! the last granny square video i tried to follow i accidentally made it into a star and was pretty confused about that (I still am tbh) but this video was easy to follow and allowed me to make something pretty for once!!
I've finally done my first square without any mistakes. It's taken many, many tries but I've got it - now I've just got a blanket of squares to make lol. Don't give up hope everyone, you'll get there. Thanks so much.
Huge thank you for this video!! I always try to figure these things out myself and end up with a complete mess, lol. Accidentally made a granny triangle the first time I tried haha
The first time I followed this tutorial earlier this week, it took me 3 hours and 5 unravels to complete my first ever granny square. I just followed this tutorial again and it took me 1 hour and 0 unravels! I'm so proud of myself (which is a rare occurrence) and so grateful to you. 💜 I'm someone who benefits greatly from very thorough, visual instructions and this is perfect. Thank you so much! 🥰 The last time I did any crocheting was in elementary school, so 25 years ago, give or take 😉 back then my teacher held up my project for everyone to see, only to say "this is precisely how NOT to do it - the stitches are too tight". It's haunted me ever since and hasn't helped my issues with anxiety 😅😢 it might have taken me a few decades but I'm back at it, and so excited to watch my progress 😊
this helped me so much! granted, i had to watch it about 6 times until my thing looked even remotely like a square, or a shape at all, but it just did take me that long to finally produce something that i could find the center hole in easily. for other beginners struggling with this: i had an easier time with it when i just did a line of 5 instead of 4 in the beginning! it leaves a bigger hole, because you basically turn that first line into a ring.
This is So helpful i have seen 5 - 6 tutorials but this is so understand - able and pleasant I actually did it in my first try . It came out soo good Thank you 😊 🦄✨
Great tutorial! Except you sped up the stitches on the second granny stitch, so I had to rewind and pause a number of times. Otherwise, this is very helpful for a beginner. 😊
me listening to your relaxing tutorials despite being at the point where i crochet in the third loop of a treble to create depth because no matter how much you learn, seeing the basics and doing them is always good ❤
What always perplexes me is...how did the first person to do this figure it out? They were a bloody genius
This is what I ponder when doing stuff like this too 😂
Yes - me too!
Happy accidents
This is just a theory of mine, but I think it could've been an autistic person who figured it out, given how most of us have special interests
@@LaughOutRandom I'm also autistic, and this checks out tbh.
"There should be two centre holes"
Me, looking at my tiny jumble of disaster yarn:
"I will take your word for it"

That’s what happedned to me the first time, but months later I did it and it was surprisingly easy. Probably Because I had more experience
I couldnt even see mine 😅
I restarted like, 4 times

I appreciate this tutorial because it is rhythmic. It helps a lot. Thanks 😊
You're welcome :)
Wow! Thank you for the tutorial, after 3 unraveled practices, and 2 hrs later I was able to make my very first granny square. New to crocheting, all I’ve made is beanies with loom- so this was fun and very excited to continue!!
You're welcome :)
this is so helpful and ur voice is so calming
Thank you :)
Hi ! I recently turned 11 and im learning to crochet and you make it so easy! Right now im working on a cardigan and this really helps, thank you!
You are very welcome :)
Omg same lol!! I got a crocheting set for my bday
Good luck! I am going to turn twelve and my mother crochets but it took me a while to learn tension.
Your 11 and making a xardigan while I'm also 11 just able to make a granny square 😅
You guys are all amazing, I’m 26 and can successfully make a tampon string 🥲🤣
Thank goodness for you. I was taught by my Grandmother about 60 years ago and used to make blankets, hats and hot water bottle covers. I then was taught knitting and kept up with that, until now. I had forgotten everything then you reminded me and I thank you for that and your very easy to follow instructions. Take care.
You are very welcome :)
Omg I have been trying to do this for 44 years!!! I started crochet at 5 years old. Never could do this. Everyone has tried to teach me. I watched this and literally just made my first one and I am so darn proud of myself.
Yay well done :)
You know you made Bella's day? I am sure this comment made her day! Bless her.

Hi, Coco this is my favorite crochet tutorial. And you are doing great. Thank you very much. ☺️
Brilliant. I've been trying to learn for years. Now I feel confident that I will be able to crochet. Thank you.
You’re very welcome 😊
I wanted to learn crochet for a long time and with this tutorial I feel like I might actually be able to do so.
Thank you
I've been working on a unicorn plush. I have to make the head and the horn.
Same here. Learned it from here just now. Am so happy
Perfect tutorial, I have been crocheting around 15 years (self taught), and could only make scrubbies, infinity scarfs, basic hats, and blankets using a few different stitches. But I’ve always wanted to learn the Granny Square! This was a fantastic video, I love the depth of explanation, even though I am not a beginner of crochet, but I am for Granny Squares, this was 10/10
Thank you so much, I'm glad it helped :)

23:20 just saving my place for tomorrow :)
This tutoriel is TRULY FOR BEGENNERS ❤❤❤thank you it turned very pretty even if it is my very first crochet .
You’re welcome 😊
Such clear and precise instructions! Thank you heaps I have learnt so much from watching your channel. Keep them coming please.
You're very welcome :)
I was having trouble finding that center circle so I used a safety pin as a marker and finally it started to look like something!
Practice and patience that's what crochet is all about :)
Yes, I opened a paper clip and started using that😂 It definitely helps
Wish we could add pics on here, I've somehow created a little lump on mine like it's growing a tumour
@@lauratheexplorer1994 oh dear! Doesn't sound good. 🙄
I did the same with a stitch marker :)
YAY I DID IT 😀 had to keep pausing 🤣 my mum taught me 2 weeks ago she's so proud and I'm 50 🤣🤣🤣 awesome tutorial thank you 🥰🌹
You are very welcome :)
After 3 years of wanting to crochet, I finally decided to just follow your tutorial and actually made my first every crochet square. My joy knows no bounds and thank you for a wonderful tutorial
You are very welcome :)
Her: There you can see 3 squares-
Me: I only see 2.... time to start over again!
Just remember that crochet is practice and patience so don't give up :)
i feel the same
I looked and tried several tutorials on how to do a granny square and this by all means was the easiest to understand! Thank you so much!
Same here! I love this channel. She makes it so easy to understand!
Literally SAME
So easy to understand thank you
Agree.
Hi
I like your demonstration for the granny square. You gave great instructions. You've made it so easy.
Thank you so much
😊🌸🌹🌼🌺
I have short term memory lost and have lots of trouble crocheting. I was able to follow you all the way through. THANK YOU!!!
You are very welcome :)
Wow. This was the first video I found after searching for awhile where someone taught/explained this well enough that I was able to actually make my first granny square. So excited. Thank you!!
You're very welcome, and well done :)
I was going to say your tension! you have to keep a consistent tension throughout the project (depending on what you’re doing), i learned the hard way and had many many “lumpy” projects for a while 😂
stretch it out. a lot. force it to be flat. STRETCH IT.
am i the only one who's just happy i got the five holes after 10 minutes of crocheting?
Excellent demonstration. Thank you
This is the first video I've followed where the yarn I'm working with as I follow along actually looks kind of like it is supposed to! You're very good at giving direction for beginners. Thank you - I will be saving this video and rewatching forever
You're welcome :)
You ma’am are a freakin gift from god. I’ve never been able to do one until today. Thank you so freakin much😭
You are very welcome :)
I have some parts of my brain damaged so it is really hard for me to follow instructions, but I crocheted with you and didn’t mess up ONCE. Absolute godsend of a woman ❤️😁
I'm glad I could help and well done :)
I'm the same and I find a lot of instructions too difficult to follow and I give up. This tutorial was very helpful and I successfully did a granny square!
I've watched 3 videos and this by far was the easiest. 🎉
Your other granny square tutorial got me started crocheting back in 2017, I've made one baby blanket and one large blanket following those guidelines. Thank you for sharing!
You're very welcome :)
This by far was the best tutorial I have found, I get easily lost trying to start granny squares, I must have started some 20 of them yesterday, always to fail before I made it to the 2nd round….this video really helped me actually “see” how everything worked together! Thank you so much!
You are very welcome :)

4 hours and 18 restarts (not exaggerating) and I freaking DID IT. It's perfect! Thank you so much for the amazing tutorial. This is the first thing I have ever crocheted and I'm so happy!!
You are very welcome and well done :)
This gave me a little hope 😭 I’m on my 5th restart now 🫠 not gonna give up
@@asiasmith9334you’ve got this!! Keep going! I’ve crocheted a whole queen size blanket now and am so happy I didn’t give up. New things take time to learn 💜
You are very welcome and remember that the more you crochet the easier it will become :)
Great tutorial! I go through phases with my hobbies, each time I circle back around to my crochet hooks this video comes in handy :)
Thank you, glad it's helped you :)
i just started crocheting less than a week ago and as a beginner this video couldn't have been explained more perfectly thank you for posting this!!
You are very welcome :)
Same!!!
I decided to actually make this into a blanket!
Wish me luck!
Wishing you luck :)
How did it come out? :)
Did you make the blanket?
Thank you! I have fought for years trying to figure out how to make a granny square. This video was the best thing I’ve ever seen. I followed along and now plan too continue with it too make a granny square blanket. Thank you so much!
You're welcome :)
This was really helpful!!I managed to make loads and sew them together to make my real life horse a rug it took 1 yr but without out you he wouldn’t have a nice and snug crazy rug. Thank you so mutch.

You're welcome :)
I worked my way through all your beginner videos and now I’ve made my first granny square. Thank you so much for explaining and showing so clearly! I already love crocheting.
You are very welcome :)
I'm officially insane 😃
Oh my gosh thank you for going through each step slowly and throughly. Also for not fast forwarding through any steps assuming we get it. Best tutorial ever.
You are very welcome, I'm glad it was helpful :)
You have the patience of a saint! Thank you so much for a fantastic video. I watched all the way through, then purchased a ball of yarn and a 5mm hook, then had you on Stop/Start, and "Ta Da" I have produced my very first respectable-looking Granny Square! 😘
Joanne Barlow wahoo!! Awesome news x
when you nearly finished and found out about the US & UK name stitches...ssiiiiggghhh -pulls the yarn-
I had been struggling with trying to learn this all day and now finally it works! This brilliant tutorial did the trick. I will be forever grateful!
You are very welcome :)
I just can't get it at all. It keeps ending up like a circle with lots of holes !! 😔
its definitely a hard one i got it but my sister in law cannot figure it out.
it's ok, just remember practice makes perfect!
If it looks like a circle than there's probably an issue in the corners
Same except mine came out as a granny bowl with tons of gaps 🤣 we just gotta practice, practice, practice and don’t give up!
Anyone know how to know where the centre hole is? I think I just keep putting thru different ones or something
This was so easy to follow I'm not a beginner to crocheting but this was my first attempt at a granny square. This helped so much and I can't wait to show my aunt.❤
I'm so glad that it helped you :)
Just keep trying and practice you'll get better in no time
Best video ever i actually worked as a 12 year old beginner, love it soooooo much this channel is going to change my crochet arts so much.

Me to
I'm trying crochet for the first time and this video was amazing!! the last granny square video i tried to follow i accidentally made it into a star and was pretty confused about that (I still am tbh) but this video was easy to follow and allowed me to make something pretty for once!!
I'm so glad it was helpful to you and remember that crochet is practice and patience so the more you do the easier it will get :)
Literally the best tutorial i couldn't do it with you I did it super easily big thanks ❤
You're welcome :)
I've finally done my first square without any mistakes. It's taken many, many tries but I've got it - now I've just got a blanket of squares to make lol. Don't give up hope everyone, you'll get there. Thanks so much.
You're very welcome and well done for not giving up :)
Huge thank you for this video!! I always try to figure these things out myself and end up with a complete mess, lol. Accidentally made a granny triangle the first time I tried haha
You're very welcome :)
The last time I did any crocheting was in elementary school, so 25 years ago, give or take 😉 back then my teacher held up my project for everyone to see, only to say "this is precisely how NOT to do it - the stitches are too tight". It's haunted me ever since and hasn't helped my issues with anxiety 😅😢 it might have taken me a few decades but I'm back at it, and so excited to watch my progress 😊
Well done for not giving up, I'm glad it has helped you :)
this helped me so much! granted, i had to watch it about 6 times until my thing looked even remotely like a square, or a shape at all, but it just did take me that long to finally produce something that i could find the center hole in easily. for other beginners struggling with this: i had an easier time with it when i just did a line of 5 instead of 4 in the beginning! it leaves a bigger hole, because you basically turn that first line into a ring.
I'm glad it was helpful :)
Girl I love you you helped me sm omfg😭😭
This is So helpful i have seen 5 - 6 tutorials but this is so understand - able and pleasant
I actually did it in my first try . It came out soo good
Thank you 😊 🦄✨
Glad it helped :)
Great tutorial! Except you sped up the stitches on the second granny stitch, so I had to rewind and pause a number of times. Otherwise, this is very helpful for a beginner. 😊
me listening to your relaxing tutorials despite being at the point where i crochet in the third loop of a treble to create depth because no matter how much you learn, seeing the basics and doing them is always good ❤
THANK U SO SO MUCH FOR THISSSSSSSSS!!!! I’ve made a ton so far and I’m planning to make a small tote bag with them!!❤❤❤
You are very welcome :)
