When I started to crochet at age 15, many many years ago, I started with this afghan. It was the one my grandmother used to teach me to crochet. She passed away 20 years ago and i lost the pattern. I have looked for this pattern for years, even on youtube. I could never find it. I thank you so much for this.
My Gram taught me crochet when I was 8 or 9 and never actually told me the names of stitches, I just copied what she did and it worked out just fine. I love watching your tutorial because you explain things fully without it being overly complicated. The fact I can see the stitches has made a world of difference, it's like having Gram with me again (except now I know the names of stitches). Thank you so very much!!!
i am back again using this demo as my guide, this is my 3rd baby blanket, i was asked after a family member commented on a blue baby blanket i made using your guide. AWESOMENESS.
I just followed this video to get started on another throw also. I am fairly new at crocheting, so I find it works best if I use this and Bellas regular granny square tutorial to get started. I do not subscribe to any other crochet tutorials because I think she is the best and I am grateful that I found her videos. Happy crocheting!
OMG, I think I have old timers, been looking for this, , I use to make this year's ago , and was thinking of making a blanket , but just couldn't remember how to start it , your a life saver, love your videos, so easy and clearly understanding, tyfs, thumbs up
Thank you! you have taught me something new today..... i am a beginner at crochet and, I'm now in the process of making an afgan for my son! thank you so much
Oh thank you. I'm addicted to your tutorials because I find it hard to visualise a pattern unless I see it being worked. I've been puzzling for ages how to make a rectangle blanket. Keep on posting because I love your videos and how easy it is to follow :)
Thank you so much. I'm a self-taught crocheter (not perfect) and I've been wanting to make rectangle afghans (instead of squares) and this was VERY helpful and clear.
Oh this was so helpful! other demos were switching colors with each round but this showed how to keep the same color and move up to the next row, thank you!
i saved this, made a blanket my first ever, sooo pleased with it, lovely compliments from family. So i am making another one with odd balls of wool, just having fun. Each stitch i say made with LOVE.
Thank you for sharing. Very easy & well explained instructions. I’m making this one now. So glad I came across your video. I needed it for my dining spring table motif. Thanks again.
Very precise easy to follow instructions and a pleasant voice narrating the steps. I am going to use this pattern to create afghans for an organization called Blankets for Canada.
Thanks for the video! Very helpful in getting me started on a new project this week. I am using a white speckled yarn and a deep pink yarn in a throw for a gift.
I love your tutorials. I found your site by chance a couple years ago and follow you. Subscribe to your channel. You are always so clear in your tutorials. Thank you. Always a pleasure.
Love this tutorial, thanks! I slip stitched to the next corner so I didn’t have to keep having that odd chain 4 every other row. It was bound to confuse me eventually
Thank you!! This was beautiful and my blanket is coming along great. You're awesome. Thanks for taking the time to make this tutorial, as it was the easiest one for me to follow :)
I was reading the comments and it would seem that gauge is the most common question. That would depend on your yarn and hook. But you should be able to calculate that your rectangle would get 2 clusters longer and two clusters wider with each round. So if you measure your cluster height from foundation ch to the top, that should give you the base measurement to determine how many rows you'd need for a given project. Divided by 2 for total rounds on the project. If that sounds wrong or an expert out there can help us out, I'd love the input. I love the math involved in crocheting.
love your tutorials Bella Coco! so easy to follow x could you please do a Call the Midwife blanket next as this is the only one I can't seem to grasp! thank you Xx
Thank you for this tutorial :) I'm thinking of making a baby blanket using this - and joining the rectangles together using the method for granny squares. That idea is still in workshop...shall see how I go :)
Could you give us some ideas on what we could use these granny rectangles in a project? Could you do lots of small ones and join them into a blanket? Or as a rectangular pillow ect? X
+Lucy Bunn You could keep adding rounds so that it gets bigger and bigger. Or your could do smaller rectangles and join together. Whatever you can imagine really! have a play around :) x
+Bella Coco just as a tutorial idea I was wondering if you could do an all in one video showing us how to do various stitches at all? I'm doing a blanket at the moment and it's in US terms with which I have to keep googling to remember which ones I'm meant to be doing lol, and I thought I'd love it if there was a Bella CoCo video to help us ;) thank you for all your great tutorials x
yes u can. i saw bella coco granny square i tried them i succeeded. now i lots of small ones in many colours and join them into a blanket. now i nearly finished.
It's funny - I learned to crochet from you in 2014 and when I need a new tut on a new project I almost always find it on your channel and I love that :)
Loved this tutorial and will use it for future projects. However, I started this because I needed a 9"x7" Granny "square" to add to a group project. The beginning of the tutorial said to chain to the desired length of your rectangle which I did - 9". But as the pattern progresses it kept getting longer. So, I'll use this in the future for blankets but need to find a tutorial that is specifically for a 9x7"
Michelle, I read your comment about the starting chain for this rectangle granny and that is my question. want my finished granny 30” and I have no idea how to figure out how many beginning chains to have.
Hi Sarahjane love ur tutorials n helped me to learn crochet. Im realy keen to do a ripple blanket, iv watched some videos but realy cant grasp it. Could i request u do a ripple/wave tutorial ??? many thanks n keep the tutorials coming love them x x
This really helped me out, I was reading this pattern and I didn't understand it at all. After you chained 3 you didn't turn your work, like this pattern says to do. Thank you.
Just one question - if we usually work just 2ch for the corner in a granny square would just do the same thing, as in work the same amount as what we'd do for a square? I find my work tends to ruffle if i add 3ch in a granny square. Thanks
This is a wonderful tutorial except...I had never made one like this so when you said to chain the length of your project, I chained enough for my queen size bed. I never understood how that could possibly work without getting even bigger, but, hey, what do I know? I still don't understand how to figure out the starting length, but I just winged it and it is coming out fine. Go ahead, laugh with (at) me. ✂
To figure out your starting chain length, you would subtract the width that you want it to grow to from the length that you want it to grow to. So if you want a finished blanket of 80x 60, then you would subtract 60 from 80 giving you 20. So your starting chain would need to measure 20. Then your rectangle will begin to grow evenly all around, thereby making your length 20 longer than your width.
+Frank Barrera Jr I get what you mean. But what I had in mind is this is link below. Since I've searched one on pinterest (with free pattern too!), I think she can make a tutorial on it and it would really help us crochet newbies. :D cynthiabanessa.com/2015/11/two-color-granny-square/
Hi Bella coco I am using your granny rectangle tutorial and was wondering when I change colour do I need to do the chain 4 or do I just start in the corner ?

To start: Chain in multiples of 3 + 3 for a turning chain
02:11 to get the pattern started
Just making notes for myself since I use this video a lot.
My Gram taught me crochet when I was 8 or 9 and never actually told me the names of stitches, I just copied what she did and it worked out just fine. For a cleaner starting cluster, you might want to slip stitch, and then proceed to the chain 3 and 2 double crochet. 😊
I am going to have a go at making a rectangle blanket. GREAT VIDEO.

Pamela Jackson ,'b. @
Pamela Jackson yeah I thought the same thing lol luckily I was just watching to learn how for a future project!good tutorial though
Pamela Jackson do you have a pattern for cape .
I really like this video
Thank you :)
Thank you 🥰
You’re welcome 😊
I like this pattern. Do you have it in written form? I would buy it if you do. Thanks
Sorry I don't have this pattern in written form :)
Thank you for your tutorials! It helped me a lot really. Can you make a tutorial on how to crochet a solid granny square with two colors? :)
+Frank Barrera Jr I get what you mean. But what I had in mind is this is link below. Since I've searched one on pinterest (with free pattern too!), I think she can make a tutorial on it and it would really help us crochet newbies. :D
cynthiabanessa.com/2015/11/two-color-granny-square/
is this hook from the knit pro crochet set? and are they comfy and in anyway equivalent to clover amour crochet sets. thx
Hi Bella coco I am using your granny rectangle tutorial and was wondering when I change colour do I need to do the chain 4 or do I just start in the corner ?
So nice to hear them called trebles, this the name my Nan taught me forty plus years ago the yanks confuse me
Thank you sweet lady 💐😗
You're very welcome :)
You are amazing , thank you
Thank you for your support :)
I am working on a rectangle granny using a 6.0 mm hook with red heart Super Saver. How many rolls should I do for a baby blanket?
